Stylish Handmade BUBBLE Sofa Inspiring Cosiness by Sacha Lakic Posted: 22 Oct 2014 04:56 AM PDT The BUBBLE sofa is part of the new furniture designs by Sacha Lakic for the Roche Bobois autumn winter collection 2014. This entirely handmade sofa brings to mind a puffy cloud, and offers great comfort through its reassuring forms. It may be colorful and fluffy, yet its appearance is also elegant, perfectly fit for a high-class social zone or a public spaces. Its friendly look is also given by the lack of supporting legs, a feature which seems to “root” the sofa into the room. The fabrication of the BUBBLE sofa required the development of an innovative textile, Techno 3D. This unique fabric is tenacious and extendable in three directions, which allows for the well rounded and tight shapes. It is composed of a robust black jersey onto which a soft touch honeycomb wool is applied. The seat and backrest are made of a bi-density foam based on a solid wood frame. The sofa is available in three colors and two dimensions, with a matching ottoman in different sizes. High Level of Transparency Defining Mar de Luz House in Peru Posted: 22 Oct 2014 02:53 AM PDT Mar de Luz House in Paracas, Peru boasts a total living surface of 778 square meters and embraces its neighboring landscape: “The premise in the development of this project was to always keep the views of the bay and the horizon present in every area of the house. We needed to place the program so that the spaces would connect visually, the transparency should be the primary axis of the first floor“, explained the architects at Oscar Gonzalez Moix. Due to strong winds, the developers could not plan a front yard with direct access to the beach. Instead, they imagined an inner courtyard, which visually communicates with the shore through the first transparent level of the residence. This highly modern home in Peru displays a intriguing mix of concrete, bamboo and stone, in tune with the hues inspired by the site. The inner program was planned as follows: “The main house is defined between the two side stone walls. With a width of 20 meters, the front had to be shared by all social programs on a first level and all private programs at a second level. For the very different nature of the program, the second level, a concrete box perforated on both sides, lies suspended above the two solid walls. New Colossal Mixed-Use Performance Space in The Netherlands: Theatre Spijkenisse [Video] Posted: 21 Oct 2014 08:09 AM PDT The close collaboration between UNStudio architects and Arup led to the development of the New Theatre Spijkenisse, a contemporary building design in Spijkenisse, The Netherlands. The mixed-use performance space is defined as “a remarkable building with an inviting and open character”. The internal organization and the circuit of functions has been designed around the flow of visitors. A strong indoor-outdoor connection was one of the main purposes of the overall design. The double curved, partly transparent, roof surface is draped as a steel skin around the structure. Light is pouring through the facade, resulting in a warm glow effect at night. Visitor circulation is an important aspect of any theater building. A clever structure has created a spacious lobby with a minimal number of columns. The large auditorium has 650 seats and a smaller multifunctional auditorium (200 seats) with a retractable tribune. Arup helped to facilitate the organization layout and complex geometry by the use of Building Environment Modelling (BEM), enabling an integrated structural, lighting and building services design.
