The Canterbury Residence, designed by Canny is a graceful contemporary home, inspired by the summer breeze and sun. Let’s start with the terrace. Two words to describe it: absolutely stunning! Perceived as a floating wooden “island”, “lost” in the middle of the swimming pool, the terrace is a gorgeous place to sit and enjoy your lemonade on a hot summer day or to relax and listen to the whisper of nature, at dawn. “The fully-tiled pool with granite stepping stones marries in beautifully with the stonework of the adjacent alfresco area; and the spotted gum decking flows from the polished floorboards of the main living area to provide an inviting exterior island oasis”.
The residence is characterised by transparence and breeziness. Most of the walls were replaced by sliding windows, bringing more light and more of the “outside” inside the house. Very spacious (with 4 bedrooms and 4 living areas), the Canterbury Residence is definitely a good place to live and feel the summer (thrill). Neat, elegant and more than casual, this is the ultimate dream house for those who dream of a carefree lifestyle.

Half an hour by car from Tokyo and you’re in Saitama. All the houses have their own spot reserved for cars because public transportation is not available in the area. We’ve spotted a house that not only looks rather weird, but has also adapted to the irregular outline of the site. The house with metallic cladding and horizontal stripes was designed by SNARK and OUVI on 10,313 square meters and it was finally defined in 2012. With the parking space there also comes a small garden.
The interior is simple, neat and comfortable. The main floor’s ceiling is covered with wooden beams, making the place feel warm. The natural light is also very important, flooding the interior from South, East and West. Despite its reduced dimensions, the house has enough space to accommodate a young couple. A tranquil lifestyle is not about gorgeous eclectic design details but about the pleasant ambience. And this house was designed to provide it. How do you find its minimalism? Do you find it nice and inspiring?

This faceted steel building occupying a surface of only 47 square meters is more than enough for the living needs of a family in Osaka prefecture, Japan. Developed by Japanese studio Fujiwaramuro Architects, the home has an original exterior shape, one that seems to follow the contours of the roads. A sloping roof visually contrasts the curving lines of the lateral walls. The overall appearance of the residence pays tribute to its industrial character of the neighborhood.
The ground floor accommodates the main entry, a music room for the wife who is a gospel instructor, and a bathroom on the way to the second story housing the living, dining rooms and kitchen. The dining area is the lowest of all, yet offers panoramic views of the neighborhood rooftops. The third floor contains the children’s and master bedroom, with access towards a terrace. Would you personally characterize this place as “homey”?
