The Yorkville Penthouse, located in Toronto was designed by Cecconi Simone for a young couple that needed a place to incorporate perfectly the idea of home and business. “This home epitomizes restrained and exquisite contemporary design while being warm, comfortable and welcoming. Located on a half floor, the home has west, north and east exposures.” Black and white, a little bit of concrete and a piano – this is how you create an interesting contrast to fit the couple’s exquisite tastes.
The penthouse was divided in three main areas: the entertainment area, the private area and the interior courtyard. Each of these areas have different functions, depending on the couple’s needs. An imposing fireplace welcomes you in the living room, embroidering the living space with sprinkles of subtle decorations. The white-and-black elements create a certain peaceful ambience. The penthouse respects the lines of a truly minimalistic décor: the all-white kitchen, the “almost empty” bedroom and a hollow chamber with water falling on the walls opening up to a green space. Sometimes this is all you need to find your inner peace after a hectic weekday schedule.

| Anglican Church Turned Into a Modern Fancy Home Posted: 02 Apr 2013 01:56 AM PDT
We’ve spotted this house on miss-design and we really wanted to share this Bagnato Architects project with you. This is, basically, something that we call a house with an interesting past. Imagine an Anglican Church (built in 1892) transformed into a contemporary home, with gorgeous décor elements, an open space living room and a large terrace guarded by a crystal clear swimming pool. Now repeat after us: this used to be a church! Hard to believe, isn’t it?! Hudson St (Melbourne, Australia) is an exquisite home with an impressive structure, imposing and very luminous. The floor-to-ceiling sliding windows allow the natural light to sneak in and create a bright and vivid ambience.
Some of the “church” elements were kept untainted: the arcades, the rounded windows and of course, the original shape. The house is very spacious, accommodating five bedrooms with 5 bathrooms, lounge and entertainment areas, a bright living room, a kitchen and a large dining room. The materials used in defining the house were wood, white marble, onyx marble and limestone. Precious, elegant and made of the finest materials, the Hudson St is a place that “marries an 1892 church to 2012 modernity throughout unique dimensions”. What do you think of it?

| 10 Floor Plans of the Most Famous TV Apartments in the World Posted: 01 Apr 2013 12:39 PM PDT
We have something special for you today: 10 floor plans of the most famous apartments on TV, which you will probably recognize without us having to tell you which one’s which. We got so used to seeing Jerry Seinfeld’s apartment for over ten seasons, that his small living room with couch in the middle and tiny kitchen has become more than familiar. And aside from being tidy all the time, Monica’s place from “Friends” is what most of us dream of when imagining a comfy crib.
In addition to the homes seen in “Friends” and “Seinfeld”, the photos below (discovered on the Deviant Art profile of Spanish designer Iñaki Aliste Lizarralde ) include floor plans of Carrie Bradshaw’s place, the residence of Dexter Morgan or Sheldon and Leonard’s apartment from American sitcom “Big Bang Theory”. So if you ever had your design-related doubts or wanted to find out more about the layout of each of the apartments below, here’s you chance!

| Elegant Apartment Paying Tribute to Art and Music by PMK+Designers Posted: 01 Apr 2013 09:04 AM PDT
PMK+Designers recently completed a modern project for a newlywed couple in Taiwan, entitled “Between Art and Music”. The aim of the apartment was to give the client a night and day difference from their day job where white marble counter tops and bright walls surround their dental clinic. We wanted to give the owners the ease and comfort they so desire in their first home as a newlywed couple. This is a place to clear the mind, a retreat from the bustle of work life.

Designed in clean modern lines, minimal in materials and palette, natural materials – concrete, stone, stucco and wood, and the soft tones of the walls and furniture instill the house in tranquility and warmth, augment the space and provide an appropriate setting for a collection of contemporary paintings. The wall which provides backdrop for art work is the center piece of the home. It was treated as an art piece all by itself. It had been done and redone with layer after layer of concrete, white concrete, washed paint, and sanded down repeatedly to give that mild texture that you might find in contemporary art paintings.
