| 300 Year Old Farmhouse Elegantly Converted Into Modern Living Space Posted: 05 Apr 2013 05:17 AM PDT Having been almost burnt to the ground several years ago, this 300-year-old farmhouse (situated close to the town of Treia in the Le Marche region of Italy) has been completely reformed and rebuilt. The extensive, four-year renovation project entitled Casa Olivi was undertaken by the Swiss architects Markus Wespi and Jérôme de Meuron and, as the building is protected by the Italian Cultural and History Administration, the outside has been meticulously preserved while the inside has been remodeled and proffers a minimalist and airy interior. Located on a sloping hill, this sophisticated Italian holiday residence enjoys a panoramic position and has 360 degree views over the surrounding countryside. The house has been finished to an exceptionally high standard and there are many cutting-edge finishing touches: such as the Phillipe Starck bathrooms, the super modern kitchen and the impressive rectangular infinity pool (reminiscent of the water troughs that can be found in the nearby countryside) that sits raised above ground level. Spacious, luminous and serene, Casa Olivi spreads over three floors. The living room is on the ground floor and four of the five bedrooms (all with ensuite bathrooms) are situated on the two upper floors. Having been fully reformed, the former stable is now an independent one-bedroom guest house. In the south section of the property, there's a large terrace with a pergola and dining table for 12, as well as an outside kitchen with grill and teppanyaki. | Sophisticated Concrete Interiors in the Czech Republic by oooox Posted: 05 Apr 2013 02:41 AM PDT It is fascinating to observe how concrete has won a secure place in the hearts of interior designers worldwide. The home presented below envisioned by oooox and located in a small village southwest of Hradec Králové, Czech Republic is an example of concrete creativity. You can see the material employed throughout the interiors (walls, ceilings, floor); yet the place does not feel too industrial, but sophisticated and contemporary-elegant instead. The core of the residence is a minimalist, open plan living and dining room, designed in a neutral color palette. Just a few furniture elements and carefully chosen lighting fixtures give this interior an original vibe. The “cold” and gray concrete on the ceiling is contrasted by wooden additions and white lacquered kitchen finishes. Subtle texture on the ceiling creates a visual disruption, making it easy for anyone visiting to look up. Far from being a concrete-used-in-living-space fan, I have to say this place touched a soft spot. How does it resonate with your tastes? | Inspiring Bedrooms for Boy and Girl in Modern Slovakian Crib Posted: 04 Apr 2013 01:25 PM PDT
Slovakia is one of the east block’s countries recently coming alive in terms of quality architecture & design. Rado Rick Designers sent us an inspiring project consisting of rooms for a 6 years old Star Wars fan and a 2 years old princess. The main wish of the parents was to create living spaces which would keep the kids attracted even through puberty. Moreover, the father is a big gamer and Star Wars fan too, so he wanted his son to have this superb room to spend time and play PC games with him together.
All the furniture is custom designed; the picture on the wall in the boy’s room is real handwritten graffiti. The library was also tailored to fit into a fully furnished space, as the customer wanted to divide their kitchen from the living room area, while keeping the ability to watch over their kids. | Balancing Privacy and Spectacular Views: Promenade Residence in Australia Posted: 04 Apr 2013 10:02 AM PDT
Different from every stand point, Promenade Residence in Queensland, Australia has many inspiring features for the ones looking to build their own modern opulent retreat. BGD Architects aimed at developing a home balancing private spaces with maximized vies of the Surfers Paradise skyline: “The approach to the house, presents a structured and grounded design, balanced by the delicate screen pattern and soft landscaping. Steel screens wrap the first floor bedrooms providing a veil for the bedroom spaces within“.
The facade facing the street is relatively simple and shut, while the opposite opens up towards the sea, displaying striking features. According to the designers, “a major design feature was the inclusion of a luxury two story space to the waterfront edge with custom double story sliding doors. Each layer of glazing and the waterfront screens can be pulled back almost out of sight to allow the house to breath effortlessly all day long. Louvered glazing has been utilized throughout the home to promote cross ventilation via natural breezes“. The interiors are diverse and spectacular, with a double-height living room acting as the core of the project.
