Located in West Hollywood, Norwich Drive Residence by Clive Wilkinson Architects showcases modern glamor, yet mixed with good taste. According to the architects, “the design needed to express the transition from commercial strip to small scale residential neighborhood, so the scale and detail respond to both conditions. Construction is simple cubic stucco forms, with exposed wood structure, and softened with landscaping“. The house is mirrored by a 48 Ft swimming pool. A good indoor-outdoor connection was achieved by opening up the social areas at the bottom level towards the garden and swimming pool. But bringing the outside features into the residence does not stop here: “The master suite is located in the rear, with its own courtyard, and has a bathroom that enjoys large glass doors to the pool and a shower that connects directly, allowing a convenient way to shower after swimming. The upstairs area is devoted to flexible bedroom, office and studio space‘. We appreciate the subtle mix of textures and color displayed by this US home (spotted on Afflante), inspiring relaxation and good vibes throughout.

A small modern family in Thailand commissioned the creative team at Ayutt and Associates Design to develop their dream home in Bangkok, Thailand. YAK01 House is an imposing L-shaped building, alternating open and closed spaces and benefiting from outdoor space. Inspired from the layout of a Thai traditional house, the project makes the most of the central courtyard, which functions as a foyer before accessing the main living area.
Structurally and functionally, the residence is described by the architects as follows: “The main living space is located in the center as the floating pavilion where the family can enjoy the outdoor garden and swimming pool. The master bedroom upstairs is entirely cantilevered over the whole length of front foyer. It is designed in a cubic shape to create feature architectural element. The other two bedrooms are located on another side of the house by extending on top of the swimming pool on a cantilevered concrete slab enclosed by a big glass wall with black aluminum cladding“. A generously-sized swimming was positioned parallel to the building in order to direct cool air into the house.

Central Arquitectos completed the design for a 465 square meter social venue located in Braga, Portugal. The challenge proposed was to design a Bar located in a preexisting building, a space with the characteristics of a private living room. The project explores the creation of a noble and refined place with a strong oriental inspiration. A mixture of noble materials such as marble, wood and gilt metal combined with a palette of warm colors and textured fabrics offers a cozy and comfortable ambient. A monumental hall marks the entrance with a contemporary style and leads to the living room of the bar.
The use of mirrors reflects the ceiling´s delicate decorative and other architectural details of the interior environment. The design of the ceiling comes from a reinterpretation of an oriental motif, standardized by a module that materializes a delicate mesh strongly emphasized by indirect lighting application. The lighting has been designed to reflect and accentuate the elegance of the space. The bar space transports you to a warm environment where a fascinating blend of traditional and contemporary evocative elements lead the client to a private living room.
