Terre Des Hommes Rug Collection Inspired by Aerial Theme Posted: 28 Mar 2013 06:58 AM PDT YOu may not recall, but a while back we published a beautiful collection of carpets, inspired by the Scottish countryside. Terre Des Hommes is the second collection of rug designs by Eeuwes Studio, inspired by the Aerial theme. Stepping back from the more naturalistic approach taken in Landscapes, the 6 rugs that make up the Terre des Hommes collection employ a more reductive graphical language to create designs that are less explicit in their origins, more open to personal interpretation. Working from aerial perspectives of a variety of agriculturally 'formed' terrains around the world, the abstracted designs reduce these man-made landscapes into their core formal components. While these decorative elements reflect the reality of specific, indigenous cultural farming practices, their 'visual veracity' is subverted through the application of a color palette that amplifies the mystery of each design. Minimalist Penthouse in Athens Inspired By The Japanese Style Posted: 28 Mar 2013 02:41 AM PDT Elegance and functionality define this minimalist penthouse apartment developed by esé studio and located in Lycabettus, Athens. Initially discovered on Decofairy, the design of this place intrigued us due to its many original furniture items and daring storage solutions. Nowadays, there is a tendency towards hiding things behind camouflaged doors, yet this apartment has everything out in the open, with a successful visual output. By mixing Scandinavian objects with flea market finds, the designers managed to create a balanced living space, bursting with creativity. The color palette was kept neutral, with gray walls, oak wooden floor, a black fireplace, cement & white lacquer. In this relatively sober environment, some elements ingeniously stand out: the red lamp and wall clock in the bedroom, colorful cushions or the blue chair in the living room. Go on, explore this place for yourself and feel free to share ideas in the comments section!

10 Basic Facts You Should Know About Modular Homes Posted: 27 Mar 2013 11:11 AM PDT What is a modular home?A modular home is one that is built indoors in a factory-like setting. The finished products are covered and transported to their new locations where they will be assembled by a builder. A modular home is not a mobile home; it is simply a home that is built off-site as opposed to on-site. These homes are often called factory-built homes, system-built or pre-fab homes. Modular and Manufactured homes are NOT the same. Manufactured homes are not placed on permanent foundations. Manufactured homes, sometimes referred to as mobile homes, but are not always mobile homes, can be moved from one location to another. There are specific laws and regulations regarding these relocations. Thanks to publications such as Dwell, the popularity of the modular home is growing. How do modular homes differ from houses built on-site?Because modular homes are built indoors they can be completed in a matter of a few weeks as opposed to months. These home constructions do not see the typical on-site delays that are predominantly caused by the weather. Modular homes must conform to specific rules, guidelines and building codes that often surpass those of traditional on-site homes. However, it is important to shop around. Not all companies that make factory-built homes are alike. There can be significant differences in quality, price and service. As with purchasing or building any home, it is crucial to do your research. Modular Home Facts:

Alluring Retreat in Aspen, Colorado: Willoughby Way Chalet Posted: 27 Mar 2013 07:32 AM PDT Aspen, Colorado is home to many interesting architecture projects, one of which we will present today. Willoughby Way is the name of this chalet, envisioned and developed by Charles Cunniffe Architects as an alluring holiday refuge. From afar, the building look perfectly embedded in its dream-like natural environment: “Heavy timbers and stone anchor this home into its site on Red Mountain, while large expanses of glass encompass the mountain views“. Numerous windows and terraces give the passer-by a glimpse of the standard of living inside the retreat. Stone, wood and glass create interiors filled with warmth. Despite its modern layout, it is nice to observe how the chalet originally pays tribute to the rustic style. The main living area with its high ceilings and large windows framing mountain views provides a great setting for relaxation and contemplation. Throughout the chalet, modern interiors are replaced by more traditional rooms and vice-versa, as if inciting the visitor to discover more and more with each step.
