Amazing Paper Art Complementing Fine Arts: Folded Book Sculptures by Luciana Frigerio

In case you thought books are just for reading, well, here’s something we want to show you, that might exceed your expectations! We figured out that books are a wonderful way to express art. Yes, of course, a book is a piece of art itself, but beyond our regular perception, there’s another one. And another. And so on! We are so excited to see that creativity has no limits when it comes to arts!  Luciana Frigerio, a Vermont-based artist created a unique collection of paper art, simply called Folded Book Sculptures. Basically that was exactly what she did. She folded page by page, creating emotional (timeless) messages by using books. She only used Times New Roman and Helvetica as fonts, because of their impact upon the viewers.

And what a better way to complement art than blending one’s exquisite taste in books with talent, devotion and hard work! The result is simply spectacular, as you can see! All the messages have a positive and powerful impact. The intriguing amount of creativity of this paper art collection determined a man to propose to his fiancĂ©, by setting “the book messages” on the shelf in a bookstore. Her “universe of paper” can be actually bought from her online Etsy Store.

Away from the city rush, on a small plot of land (210 square meters), a single-family home in a picturesque settlement is all some of us need, in order to experience the wonders of a new and fresh lifestyle. The V House, designed by BaksvanWengerden Architecten in Alkmaar (the Netherlands) is an interesting example of modern architecture, being all cladded in ceramic tiles. A wonderful and relaxing garden spreads ahead, just for you, to simply enjoy spectacular views while reading your favourite newspaper in the morning. On the South, the kitchen opens up to a formal front yard. The bedrooms are located upstairs, for an additional amount of privacy.

The design of the house looks interesting, without being too edgy. “The position and proportions of the building plot as well as the different views and privacy resulted in a north-south orientation on the ground floor which is organized around a free-standing box containing services and mechanical and electrical components for the surrounding spaces“. It is rather a solid house with a humble aspect. The striking element is definitely the garden, with its exquisite lush vegetation. Soak your senses into deep relaxation and enjoy the view!

This countryside retreat envisioned by practice MDS impresses due to its original shape and interior design. Located in the foothills of the Yatsugatake mountains, in a climate that is not too hot in the summer nor too cold in the winter, the residence reflects a serene life, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. According to Designboom, the project was developed by using three adjacent volumes of different heights, with overhangs for controlling natural light and heat intensity.

Wood is the defining element for the interiors, visible in the exposed beams, floors and window frames. Cross-ventilation is ensured through strategically placed windows. Two narrow terraces sheltered beneath the roof overhangs contribute to the building’s originality. “The fan-shaped design – opening to the south – means plenty of sun streams in during the cold winters: no matter the time of day there’s always a place to bask in the sun”, explained architects Kiyotoshi Mori and Natsuko Kawamura.
