Spectacular Mix of Raw Materials and Color Displayed by SGNW House in South Africa Posted: 23 Jul 2012 05:18 AM PDT The spectacular SGNW House was designed by Metropole Architects and is embedded in the lush vegetation of Zimbali, South Africa. No matter what the standpoint, this modern home offers details that inspire and amaze. According to the official description provided by the architects, “several bodies of water, including Koi ponds, water features and a rim flow swimming pool appear to coalesce into one, and flow through the house and out into the forest. The stacked roof is fragmented and linked with flat roof slabs, in correspondence to the spatial arrangement of the rooms below, which both scales and articulates the massing of the house. The main bedroom suite cantilevers six meters over the patio below, providing protection from the weather, as well as "wow" factor. Large amounts of glazing optimize views of the indigenous bush that encapsulates the house, and together with the palette of raw materials including natural timber, off shutter concrete, water and natural stone cladding, offset the clean architectural lines with a warmth and Zen like ambiance”. Due to a daring mix of colors and decorating elements, each room is more surprising than the next-have a look! Original Workspace Allowing Privacy Without Losing Contact with the Environment Posted: 23 Jul 2012 04:12 AM PDT We received photos and information about Woven, an original desk designed by Bram Vanderbeke. Here is the press release we were sent: “A personal workspace creates a higher concentration at work, but reduces social contact. When these two principles are combined in a functional way, we create a workplace that allows people to work with concentration, but without losing contact with their surroundings. Woven is a desk, or rather an exceptional workplace. A desk that won its place in space, with a strong object value. But it is also a functional workspace that allows one to stay in touch with the environment. On the basis of sketches, models and experimenting in the atelier, I’m looking for an attractive and functional design. In the end I get a piece of furniture where I bend eight wooden slats in a way around a worktop and weave them with each other. I provide slots between the wooden slats, which makes any contact with the environment possible. The way the strips are woven, emphasizes the place value of the desk and makes a solid form”. Imposing Dream Home In The Woods Changing A Writer’s Lifestyle Posted: 23 Jul 2012 02:56 AM PDT Away from the hustle of big city life, this imposing new residence rests among agricultural lands of Cornwall, Connecticut. Home to a writer who needed a major lifestyle change, this residence named the Spence House is part of Metcalfe Architecture‘s portfolio. Looking at its wonderful facade, a set of carefully placed windows open the interiors to a powerful connection with the serene landscape. Sustainable materials were combined with a selection of quality furnishings to create an expressive display of the owner’s personality. Thanks to Inhabitat, we get to see just how inspiring this house is – soaring ceilings capture a world of comfort underneath, while the exterior facade gathers green views from all directions with the help of vertical and horizontal windows. The Spence House was intended as a comfortable home in the forest, where surrounding nature and modern design meet in an intimate set of dynamic spaces. Storing Your Favourite Publications the Creative Way: Magazine Rack Chair Posted: 23 Jul 2012 01:57 AM PDT Seung Han Lee is a designer from South Korea, currently living in England. Our attention was caught by his Magazine Rack Chair, which was “inspired by the idea to combine a book case and a chair and make them one functional object“, as the artist explains. Rails of stainless steel built into the chair act as individual hangers for various publications. Each magazine can be easily grabbed, without having to get up. Han’s design may not look too comfortable, but the idea behind is creative and fun. Seen on Architizer, the Magazine Rack Chair can be a practical addition in the children’s room or the home office. And it would certainly be appreciated in a waiting room, where time is much easier spent while reading a good newspaper. And with almost thirty to choose from, boredom is not an option. Inspiring Landscape Terraces Showcased by Grange View Residence in UK Posted: 23 Jul 2012 12:28 AM PDT With over 7,300 square feet of accommodation space and five bedroom suites, the luxurious Grange View Residence was envisioned by Harrison Varma Architects in London, UK. Three landscaped terraces, a courtyard balcony and a landscaped rear garden ensure the existence of plenty of outdoor opportunities. Folding windows and patio doors with solar control double glazed units add practicability to the exterior. A white color palette defines the living room, bedrooms and bathrooms. The social area boasts a generous sofa set, a large dining table for ten and modern TV unit. Custom made joinery incorporating walnut desks and bedside tables, automated curtains and unique fabrics define the master bedrooms and guest bedrooms. The most appealing interiors of the entire residence are probably the home theater and the 10 meter pool room with glass mosaic tiles. Enjoy the photos and feel free to comment on the details you find most inspiring!
