Illusionary Magnetic Leaning Vase: LusionBloom by Jonathan Morgan [Video] Posted: 17 Jul 2012 06:15 AM PDT We were recently sent an intriguing project that we would love to share further. The LusionBloom magnetic flower vase was designed by Jonathan Morgan and has an interesting story behind: “The project began as a one of a kind vase to be used for my wedding. While planning for my wedding, I brainstormed an eye-catching magnetic vase, sure to intrigue wedding guests. Familiar with magnetic field theory, as a result of my graduate thesis in magnetic field surgical robotics that I was working on at the time, I knew that the illusionary magnetic leaning vase was scientifically viable. I began prototyping a vase to be used for my wedding and ended up with a product that amazed everyone who saw it. The LusionBloom design is currently patent pending, has been manufactured, and is now on sale for everyone“. According to the developers, LusionBloom makes use of a unique arrangement of ferrous materials and a neodymium magnet attached to the base of the vase to remain upright, even while leaning. Vases are magnetically attracted to a thin steel base plate that can be placed on top of a table or cleverly hidden under a table covering. Vases resist toppling due to wind, pets, or a rocking boat. They can even be magnetically stacked, creating innumerable multi-tier floral arrangements; just have a look at the video below to see how that works. Bright Transparency Defining Long And Narrow Residential Lot Posted: 17 Jul 2012 04:38 AM PDT Located in Romania’s capital – Bucharest – the Vultureni House exhibits a powerful modern architecture style that challenges owners to live up to their full potential surrounded by fascinating contemporary design lines. Romanian architecture studio TECON Architects saw the long and narrow site as an opportunity to create a “private meets public” residence, where the spaces are divided into a public front courtyard and a private backyard. Accessible via an elegant collection of asymmetric steps embedded in the gently sloping terrain accompanied by rounded windows piercing the pure white facade, the interiors showcase a bright, welcoming arrangement focusing on the idea of transparency. Skylights and rounded windows, glass walls alongside glass staircase railings – they all participate in creating a spacious naturally lit atmosphere: “Once inside the volume, is a total paradigm shift. To the simplicity, the austerity, the introverted character of the outer volume, it is opposed a fluid interior space, continuous, with strong visual connections between all interior spaces. The surrounding visual connections between spaces controlled by cuts in the outer skin of the volume, together with different areas of the two courtyards increase the feeling of the internal volume.” Displaying carefully designed details both inside and outside, the Vultureni House is a great example of urban residential architecture mapping Romania’s emerging modern architecture. Playing with Volumes and Color Contrasts: Vivienda Gago in Madrid Posted: 17 Jul 2012 03:26 AM PDT “Playing” with volumes and color contrasts, Marta González Arquitectos designed a 600 square-meter residence with highly modern features in Madrid, Spain. Vivienda Gago displays the architects’ inclination towards horizontal development. The main objective of the project (that of taking full advantage of the surrounding natural elements) was achieved with the help of generous windows in every single room of the house. With a striking white stone finish, the main level contrasts the bottom floor, a visually intriguing black base, opening up towards the garden perimeter. The double-height living room is probably the most spectacular interior of the residence and is connected with the outside porch and garden. A black and white color palette sets an elegant tone for the design. With plenty of lounge space, a generous dining table, a large bar table and an all-equipped kitchen, this place is an open invite to socializing. Stunning Ethereal Lighting From Terzani Posted: 17 Jul 2012 12:50 AM PDT Terzani is a family-owned Italian lighting company that was founded by Sergio Terzani in Florence in 1972. By combining traditional Italian craftsmanship with modern technology, the company creates lighting that blurs the lines of art, luxury and design. Taking experimental lighting design a step further, Terzani commissions designs from renowned artists including Nigel Coates, Maurizio Galante, Christian Lava and Dodo Arlsan. The Precious collection features six stunning lighting products, all of which redefine the way luxury lighting is made. Designed by Barlas Baylar, Atlantis is a breathtaking installation that is reminiscent of some kind of deep sea marine animal. Hundreds of illuminated lengths of draped nickel chain – measuring three miles in total – cascade down from the gloss nickel band giving the impression of tentacles hanging down into the abyss of the ocean. Stream is a stunning design from Christian Lava for Terzani. Featuring over seven kilometres of metal chain hanging in tiers from a nickel-plated frame, Stream casts an tranquil and striking shadow around the room. It is available as a suspension light, a wall light or as a floor lamp. Combining traditional artisan techniques with cutting edge technology, Soscik is a modern reinvention of the classic chandelier designed by Nicolas Terzani. Created by interlacing metal chain over a nickel-plated frame, Soscik creates a dramatic yet romantic effect that would look great in a modern interior. Which one of these beautiful, ethereal lights is your favourite? We’d love to know. You're reading Stunning Ethereal Lighting From Terzani originally posted on Freshome.
