Transparent Home Reflecting the Presence of a Lush Forest in Belgium Posted: 06 Jul 2012 04:16 AM PDT Govaert & Vanhoutte Architecten designed the elegant Villa Roces, a modern home located in Bruges, Belgium. The project exhibits a high degree of transparency while providing a response to the small amount of natural lighting that comes from living in a wooded area. A single rectangular volume resembling a large transparent box was cleverly designed inside and out, in order to meet the living expectations of the inhabitants. A 50m long wall functions as a backdrop for the transparent volume and ensures a good level of privacy. The use of split levels explain the overall low hight of the residence, with the objective of minimizing its effect on the environment. The kitchen, dining and living room are located on the full-height bottom level. Situated one above the other, the bedroom section of the children area and the master bedroom inspire coziness and serenity. Striking Design Elements Displayed by Idrisi Clothes Boutique in Bilbao Posted: 06 Jul 2012 03:12 AM PDT Idrisi Shop is an interesting looking clothes boutique recently completed by studio lagranja in Bilbao, Spain. The creative team behind the design sent over some information regarding their project: ” In a world of mono brand shops and department stores there are still some real Boutiques around. Idrisi offers its select customers a great selection of Italian and French fashion brands such as Prada, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Dior. The refurbishment of this tiny space packed full of beautiful clothes, shoes and accessories posed a real challenge for lagranja’s team: “We chose to go for a simple, warm, gray space using oak and plaster. A neutral scenario for furniture and clothes.” Along the perimeter, the clothes hang from a shelf. An entire wall is covered with back-lit mirrors amplifying the perception of space and counteracting the narrowness of the ground floor. The tables and counter are real jewels, designed and manufactured as unique pieces for Idrisi in the shape of cages or as huge crumpled aluminum sheets”. [Fotography by Kontraluz Studio]

Extraordinary Residential Features Embedding Rock Walls And Woven Textures Posted: 05 Jul 2012 09:34 AM PDT Named after the “warning call shouted by construction workers before exploding the rock mountain in Jerusalem“, the textured Barud House appears as a woven residential construction pierced by large windows exploring the surrounding views. Located in Jerusalem, Israel, the stunning house embedded in the landscape occupies a total area of 350 square meters on a 850 square meter property. Creative minds of Paritzki Liani Architects worked on this project by drawing inspiration from three sources: “Our treatment of the site emerged from this stabilitas loci, which we subdivided into three main themes: Jerusalem, a city of rock and stone; wide aerial views; and the sacred architecture of multiple religions intersecting in the skyline. These images composed the texture and backdrop for the project.” The L-shaped first floor plan incorporates the coarse terrain as part of the house, weaving an exposed rock wall into the interior display. Separated by a glass wall, this natural formation lends the living space an aura of coarse beauty. Above, the next two floors were designed to converge with the rock and shape a tunnel leading from the top of the site, alongside the sloping terrain, to the bottom of the structure. All these features compose a unique architectural language engaging the landscape it shapes.
