Practical Reclaimed Wood Mixtape Coffee Table

Jeff Skierka Mixtape Table 2 Practical Reclaimed Wood Mixtape Coffee Table

Gone are the days when mixtapes made our hearts skip a beat – especially if the person you love spent their time choosing the best songs for you. Now, helping us remember simpler times, designer Jeff Skierka came up with this interesting Mixtape Table – a coffee table made out of reclaimed maple, walnut and lucite ( transparent thermoplastic acrylic resin). Protected by a plexiglass tabletop and supported by three simple transparent stands, the Mixtape Coffee Table is the result of the designer’s “obsession” – it has been on his mind for 5 years. Uniquely showcasing carefully considered details, the table is a 12:1 scaled replica of a cassette tape – a first prototype that will be transformed into a CNC-cut piece of furniture with a glass tabletop to be displayed in any residence. It can even be reversed to (dis)play either side A or side B. All we need now is a huge pen to manually rewind it.

Private Rocker by Kyle Fleet 1 Sleek Private Rocking Chair For Recurring Relaxation

Imagining a private, comforting space that would construct a semi-barrier between human and the surrounding space, Kyle Fleet, student at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, teamed up with well-known company Herman Miller to produce an interesting rocking chair design. The Private Rocker showcases a closed design, that protects your activities from outside interference. An association of wood, leather and wool fabric resulted in creating a simple, sturdy and comfortable rocking chair perfect to use whenever you need a break from all the noise and static surroundings. The rocking movement soothes the mind, while the clean modern design visually capture your interest. Available together with an ottoman that allows easy reclining, Kyle Fleet’s Private Rocker is described as affording “visual and acoustic privacy for a variety of restful postures“. Do you have a rocking chair that helps you unwind after a stressful day?

A white bar table, a dining table for six and two comfortable sofas of contrasting color reassure us that is a cheerful crib where family and guests love to spend time together. The white kitchen against the background of a slate stonewall serves as a compositional center. Storage space is cleverly hidden and the doors of the wall-mounted closets open upwards, with the help of an automatic push-button control.

One of the most interesting part of this apartment in Moscow, is the children’s room, described by the designers as follows: “The extraordinary wall unit attracts your attention immediately. It is made according to the design of the studio architects and serves as a storage system, a closet, and a playing area at the same time. The major highlight is in the center – a stairway leading to the "roof" of the closet covered with soft pillows: there you can just sit and read a book, or make a defense headquarters. One of the walls is decorated with soft puzzle-shaped panels made according to the designers' idea. When the boys grow up, the panels can be taken off to make the interior more composed“. See any other details you find practical?

Bright Family Home Defined By A Held Back Color Palette

360 Winnett House by Altius Architecture 1 Bright Family Home Defined By A Held Back Color Palette

Basing the design on the needs of a modern family, Toronto-based Altius Architecture created an elegant cluster of living spaces named the 360 Winnett House. This residential project was built in Toronto, Canada, on a challenging urban plot. Nestled between two other residences, this 2,370 square foot single family home displays a bright, welcoming interior arrangement. The use of white and grey throughout was soften by wooden cabinetry and flooded with natural light that creates a bright and cheery atmosphere. The three bedrooms were designed to offer relaxing moments while displaying the same color palette as the other spaces. Located in the heart of the home, a 24 foot double height volume draws light inside during the day, while at night it seems to transform into a lighthouse-resembling design element, anchoring the overall architecture. On the ground floor, in the most used part of the house, where the kitchen meets the dining space in an open floor plan, the family gathers around the table for those unforgettable times that eventually become the most loved memories.

Elegant and Spacious Home Paying Tribute to a Former Mill in Scottland

The Mill 1 Elegant and Spacious Home Paying Tribute to a Former Mill in Scottland

Incorporating the ruins of a former mill, the Bogbain Mill residence designed by Scottish studio Rural Design, does not lack originality.  In developing the new building plans, the architects started gathering ideas from the site, where old walls were inhabited by green plants, as nature was taking over: “Our clients brief was for a large family house. We were keen to re-imagine the building in a progressive form, layering a series of forms over the ruins to create a clear juxtaposition of old and new. All the forms create new and intriguing courtyard spaces, allowing our client to engage in his passion for gardening.” Even though the interior use of wood and stone pays tribute to the character of the building, once inside, it is difficult to believe this impressive residence was once a former mill. Space and elegance are the main characteristics of this home in Scottland, which we invite you to discover in detail.
