House Little Venice by Wells Mackereth 1 Using Natural Light To Illuminate An Industrial/Modern Hybrid Home

The exquisite black zinc-covered House Little Venice in London shelters a fascinating space arrangement perforated by natural light right down to the underground library and screening room. Imagined by Wells Mackeret, this residence features a wide array of carefully selected details, from the rusted steelwork that offers mechanical control of the windows to the black engineering brickwork defining connections between certain areas of the house. The main living space, flooded by light from a louvered skylight above and a hydraulic pivoting glass wall, guides light down to the low level library through a slab of structural glass in the floor.

This underground chestnut leather comfort space is surrounded by subtly illuminated shelves. Upstairs, on the bedroom floor, double height wall paneling create a dramatically high ceiling. At the owner’s feet lay reclaimed parquet floors lit sometimes by dancing flames in the oversized fireplace. A mezzanine level is occupied by the bathtub and the whole space is lit by natural light and a cast yellow and white glass 1960s chandelier. Extraordinary in its essence, this residential space is proof that personal needs and splendid modern design can join forces to create a dream home.

Family Home Developed as a “Small Village”: Arbour House in Australia

Arbour House 1 Family Home Developed as a Small Village: Arbour House in Australia

Studio Richard Kirk Architect completed the design for the Arbour House, a modern residence located on the Bulimba Reach in Queensland, Australia. The two story home was built in strong connection to its landscape, particularly with an 80 year old Poincianna tree and a public riverfront boardwalk. According to the architects, “the dwelling adopts a courtyard typology with two pavillions linked by a large double height stairwell and external courtyard. The form is conceptualized as an object carved from a solid volume of the allowable building area with the courtyard providing a protective volume from which to cross ventilate each of the spaces of the house and to allow the different spaces of the house connection but also discrete and subtle separation – the family home as a village”. We have to say we like the concept and we appreciate the way it was implemented in developing this elegant modern residence.

Elephant Chair by Maximo Riera 2 Maximo Rieras Elephant Chair Impresses With Detail Accuracy

Looking at Maximo Riera‘s latest work – the Elephant Chair – we can’t help but wonder how a sculptural piece like this one can ever be ignored. It’s massive elephant head and body shares the feeling of surrendering to higher powers while drawing inspiration from one of the oldest living civilization of Earth. Adding to his existing three animal pieces – the Walrus Chair, the Rhino Chair and the Octopus Chair- this fourth piece is an ode to the world’s largest animal. Surprising exceptional details in yet another fabulous piece of furniture part of his now famous Animal Collection, the Spanish designer insisted that each project be biologically accurate to create a stunning first impression that lasts. Besides being inspired by the widely worshiped Indian deity Ganesha in all it’s shape, this imposing chair also features Indian patterns carved into the front legs – these were designed after original hand-made pieces of furniture found in India. Would you make room for a fabulous piece like this one in your home?

Atelier du Pont recently completed the design and implementation of the original looking boutique Stella Cadente, located in Paris, France. Found on muuuz, the boutique showcases a cylindrical shape and a striking gold metal finish. Visitors are invited to step inside and observe the items carefully organized in curved shelving units. With an interior that abounds in harsh yellow, each product is cleverly emphasized on, by creating a strong color contrast with the walls and shelves. The lighting also helps in making the merchandise stand out. A central display unit divides the shop, while creating two small walkways for the visitors. While inside, guests can still be in contact with the outdoors, due to a transparent entrance facade, in the shape of an ellipse. Find the design of this boutique suited for boulevard Beaumarchais?

Interior Design Neighboring an Art Gallery: Cafe Graffiti in Bulgaria

Cafe Graffiti 1 Interior Design Neighboring an Art Gallery: Cafe Graffiti in Bulgaria

Studio MODE recently developed the interiors for Cafe Graffiti , located in Varna, Bulgaria. The new gathering place was envisioned as a natural continuation of the building’s design. Here are more details on the structure of the project from the developers: “We separated the area into two zones: the front zone was incorporated into the exterior, creating public space and the rear zone was separated through floor and roof design that allowed reducing depth of space while keeping the panorama. The real challenge was to solve all functional problems related to ventilation, sound and mostly acoustics in a way subordinated to the chosen aesthetics as an interpretation of Escher’s work. We created identical and unique concept that generalizes and masters the space while satisfying all technological and functional requirements”. The overall result is an original looking contemporary café, with plenty of artistic details, in tune with the gallery of modern art situated on the upper level of the building.
