Spanish Casa Del Pico Floating Above A Granite Terrain Posted: 23 Apr 2012 07:22 AM PDT Two floors were sufficient to encompass the necessary living spaces for Casa Del Pico in Spain. Created by Madrid-based studio ÁBATON, the 3,143 square foot home rests on a sloped granite terrain, which became the inspiration for the two-floor residential project cladded with colored mortar render. Materials used to build the house include honed limestone floors, white plastered walls, white-lacquered MDF woodwork and doors on the inside and lacquered aluminum exterior joinery. Architects share a few words about the challenging site, adapted architecture and focused interior arrangement: “The sharp slope from street level to the back of the site made it vital to conceive of two floors. The presence of granite throughout prompted the design conceit of dual structures floating above the stone itself. In order to emulate the geometry of the stone, the base of the swimming pool is uneven and mirrors the shapes etched out by the granite over which it is built. The ground floor was designed to interact closely with the outside so that the garden is perceived as an extension of the interior. The upper floor, where the living room and the children’s area are located, was linked to the swimming pool. The rooftop terrace over the living room boasts views of the mountains and city and comes with a giant built-in bench which additionally acts as a barrier. Original Wood and Glass Table by Paco Camús: Yris Posted: 23 Apr 2012 06:21 AM PDT Paco Camús sent us photos of an impressive item in his Private Collection, an elegant furniture piece entitled Table Yris. The project was developed by using solid wood (American walnut) and glass (15 mm thick), with original results. Table Yris has a mixed surface, with the edges abruptly changing from wood to glass along its whole perimeter. According to the designer, the project is the consequence of a series of geometric studies. The legs are attached to the oval base providing the table with great rigidity, while ensuring the elegance and lightness of the design. Perfectly suited for minimalist interiors, Table Yris provides different visual perspectives, depending on the standpoint. Overhangs formed out of different sized volumes and some partly covered with privacy-protecting timber slats, blinds and curtains compose a vivid symphony of playful volumes fashionably offering a set of bright interiors. Open towards the back garden views, the rooms were given a seamless connection to the outdoors while maintaining a simple material palette that aims at placing the focus on the views rather than interior details. Clean and simple, with the accent on family life, House THE provokes the mind to take a step back and enjoy a fascinating array of elegant, versatile spaces designed for the owner’s enjoyment. The street facade hints towards an exemplary suite of private and public spaces where natural light coming from floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights floods the interiors and focuses the views on the surroundings. When Two Apartments Merge : Paddington Penthouse in London Posted: 23 Apr 2012 03:48 AM PDT Paddington Penthouse was envisioned and implemented by SHH and stretches over a surface of 4700 square feet. The project is the result of a merger between two apartments located on the 14th and 15th floor of a new building in the Paddington Basin in London. According to the architects, the brief was to “create a contemporary but luxurious interior in cool grays and dark browns, with a series of flexible spaces, particularly in the main living area, where a feature island wall separates formal and informal lounge and dining spaces. Accommodation includes five bedrooms (four of which are en suite); two reception rooms; two kitchens; a guest bathroom and a cinema/media room. Space was maximized throughout with custom-designed furniture fitting the available spaces exactly“. The new duplex also features a roof terrace with a table for eight and complementing skyline views. Brick-Defined Contemporary Residence in Brazil: Casa CKN Posted: 23 Apr 2012 02:46 AM PDT Casa CKN was designed by Giuliano Montero Architects and is located in Playa de Atlântida, Xangri-lá, Brazil. Spread over a total surface of 422,08 square meters, on a lot of 540 square meters, the imposing summer house was especially built for the entertainment of the residents and their guests. Defined by uneven volumes, brick and red roof tiles, the exterior appearance of the residence is complemented by a swimming pool on one side, and by a paved pathway and a miniature car lane on the other. The interior design is a logical extension of the exterior, with tall brick walls and plenty of wood employed throughout. The heart of the project is the double-height living room, connected with all other spaces and “flanked” by two suites. Various terraces create a good indoor/outdoor relationship.
