Family-Friendly Volumetric House in Kortrijk by Devolder Architects Posted: 11 Apr 2012 06:12 AM PDT Carefully designed to display a contemporary but private front facade, this modern residence in Kortrijk, Belgium, is a volumetric collection of spaces spread over two levels. Designed by Belgian Devolder Architects, the modern timber-clad home welcomes family and guest with a simple geometric shape pierced by the garage door and a walkway leading to a partly hidden entrance door. Behind this very private front, a series of social and private spaces meet the client’s demands. The backside is strongly connected to the garden via large windows on both floors – the lower level is flooded with direct natural light, while the upper one receives sunlight through a series of slated timber screens. Two sets of stairs connect the two levels of the house – one leads from the living room to the bedrooms, while the other constructs a link to the upstairs office space. Cozy and elegant, the modern house can inspire you to create comfortable, family-friendly interiors for your next residential project, so enjoy! Unconventional Nook Table Challenging Predetermined Ideas Posted: 11 Apr 2012 04:24 AM PDT The Nook Table by German product-based designer and researcher FRNKWZ is an unconventional table that finds its place in any corner of a room, but not as you might expect. The designer explains how the idea of a corner table spruced in his mind: “Nook is a side table that challenges our spatial conventions. We are used to have predetermined beliefs in placing our furniture. My aim was to create an object that demonstrates new ways of dealing with the relation between space and structure. The table correlates with architecture and other pieces of furniture.” His experimental works aim at “corrupting” our minds to seeing beyond the immediate reality and to question everything around us. This is a lovely, challenging way of evolving and recreating our surroundings according to our needs and wishes, not our narrow or predetermined states of mind. Clever Storage Space Shaped Like A Pile of Wood Posted: 11 Apr 2012 12:57 AM PDT What at first appears to be just a pile of wood is, at a closer inspection, a creative cabinet cleverly hidden under a wooden shell. The Facecord Cabinet is part of Cleveland-based designer Mark Moskovitz‘s portfolio and can be used to store or even hide things in plain sight. The name refers to the measurements for firewood. Composing either a rustic feel or adorning your modern interiors with its functional body, the deceptive piece of furniture will surely spark up a conversation once guests figure out what it truely is. Concealing your belonging in two small upper drawers and two more on the bottom, the firewood cabinet brings nature inside and reminds you to relax and unwind even if you don’t own a fireplace. By being a constant presence in your home, the cabinet will become more and more interesting for your visitors who will wonder why the stack of wood is always the same size and shape. Priced at $5,800, the Facecord Cabinet was first seen at The Future Perfect during ICFF 2011. You're reading Clever Storage Space Shaped Like A Pile of Wood originally posted on Freshome. Dreamy Rooftop Apartment Overlooking Bondi Beach Posted: 10 Apr 2012 08:21 AM PDT A beautiful rooftop apartment rises on one of the streets of Sydney, Australia. Curiously remodeling the appearance of the building it stands on, the Bondi Penthouse overlooks Bondi Bay and beach and borrows its name. Spread over 180 square meters, this creation of MPR Design Group displays a highly modern design. Adorning the rooftop of an Art Deco building, the lightweight metal clad structure benefits from plenty of natural light coming from a mixture of skylights and windows. An immaculate set of interiors and exterior spaces compose social and private rooms, all free flowing and strongly connected to the surroundings. By adding a contemporary top to an historic building, MPR Design Group created yet another stunning example of blending old and new architectural languages. Laying at the owner’s feet, wide lime washed timber floor boards set the tone for an elegant interior design, where white and silver Alucobond cladding, together with limestone and Calacutta marble shape a dreamy residence. Arranged under cleverly hidden LED light fittings, minimalist pieces of furniture provoke the inhabitants to relax in the comfort of this luxurious penthouse apartment.
