| Modern Home Composed of Three Horizontal Volumes : Riverhouse Niagara Posted: 28 Feb 2012 04:36 AM PST
Riverhouse Niagara is a modern architecture project developed by Zerafa Studio and located in Ontario, Canada. The two-story residence has a total surface of 5000 square feet and unobstructed river views across the full width of the property. Here is more from the architects: “The house is comprised of three distinct horizontal volumes. The building's north south massing is defined by 2 overlaid rectangular shells within which the glass, cedar and granite clad volumes for the interior living spaces are placed and a series of voids create covered exterior terraces. The shells are clad in silver metal panel and are mostly opaque to provide privacy from adjacent properties to the north and south. The open east and west ends of the shells reveal the River and garden views.” We invite you to take a virtual tour of this imposing home and tell us if there are any details you believe are worth emphasizing on.

| Embacing Peacefulness: The Modern Jarson Residence in Arizona Posted: 28 Feb 2012 03:30 AM PST
Jarson Residence is a secluded 4,440 square foot contemporary home designed by Phoenix-base studio will bruder+PARTNERS and located in Paradise Valley, Arizona, USA. The owners- two real estate professionals interested in modern architecture and their two sons- wanted a home that would answer their need for peacefulness. Weathered steel and copper contribute to the mysterious look of the building, well integrated in its environment. Here is more from the architects regarding its structure: “Entry, office and bedrooms, are on the upper level with the primary living and dining experience, a media / music chamber and potter's studio tucked beneath. Cork and concrete floors, wall planes of translucent glass, and cabinets of cherry and stainless steel articulate the interiors. The upper level entry and passage are conceived as galleries for the owners' art collection. The stair down to the collective living spaces plays against the subtle drama of the angled south façade, to draw you to the desert beyond where the double height living room takes you to the sky."Would this type of home suit your living needs?

| Striking Modern Design: Triumph Palace Apartment in Moscow Posted: 28 Feb 2012 02:30 AM PST
Envisioned by designers Alexei Nikolashina, Alexandra Fedorova and Irina Shumaeva, this highly modern apartment is one of the sought after accommodation spaces in Moscow’s famous Triumph Palace building. The chromatic harmony of this project is achieved by white walls and floors, contrasted subtly by wooden accents and strongly by a dark-yellow TV and bookcase unit. The living area is minimalist and communicates with the kitchen, separated only by an elegant wooden bar, suspended more than one meter above the floor. State-of-the-art appliances are available for the ones who wish to cook here, although this is a crib that inspires elegant wines and eccentric take-out food, rather than mess and heavy cooking smells. A stylish glass table for six comes to second this idea. Enjoy discovering the details that make this apartment unique and don’t forget to share your findings by leaving a comment below.

| Metropolis Bathroom Furniture From Lasa Idea Posted: 28 Feb 2012 01:26 AM PST
Metropolis is a minimalist collection of bathroom furniture produced by Italian bathroom furniture manufacturer Lasa Idea. Founded in the 1970′s Lasa Idea originally specialised in the creation of mirrors and wooden bathroom accessories, however the company later expanded its offering by branching into the creation of bathroom furniture.
The modular Metroplis collection features a variety units, which are available in 40 standard matt or gloss lacquered colours as well as all the RAL lacquer shades. There is also a choice of 20 different wood finishes.
The range features a number of container elements including deep drawers and baskets, which help to optimize and organize the storage space.
The range itself is inspired by modern architecture and urban landscapes. The minimalist, monochromatic bathroom is comprised of hard lines and sharp angles which are then softened by the ergonomic lines of the sanitaryware.
What do you think? Is this a heavenly combination of minimalism and monochromatic delight? Or do you think it is too cold and clinical? We’d love your feedback so let us know. | Airport Lounge Arcades Shaping An Intricate Design Posted: 28 Feb 2012 12:14 AM PST
The Turkish Airlines CIP Lounge has recently been opened at the Ataturk Airport International Departures in Istanbul – a feast for the eyes. Featuring intricate shells built inside the airport hall, the modern airport lounge was designed by Autoban. Daily, 2000 people can walk through the 300 square meter CIP Lounge. Designed ” to transmit the "Contemporary Turkey Experience" to Turkish Airlines passengers “. Arcades and round skylights – some adorned with huge lights – create a stunning effect: “The main structure, established by making use of the traditional architectural arcade system, consists of a combination of global forms. These plain spheres create interior combinations by dividing the place into sections, allowing transitions between them.” The shells have different functions – restaurant, tea garden, library, movie theater or rest rooms – and provide a sense of continuation moving through the spaces. Details like the intricate pattern shells and light-pierced black channels hiding electrical systems and mechanic features in the merging points of shells make the whole design display a fresh, bold and welcoming design.

| Complex Maleny House With Interesting Mix of Windows Posted: 27 Feb 2012 11:03 AM PST
Owners of the Maleny House (or the “Glass House Mountain House” in Maleny, Australia) challenged Australian Bark Design Architects to design a complex, landscape-interacting residential structure. According to its architects, the residential structure “has qualities of being anchored, robust and earthbound as well as being transparent, light and floating.” The modern office space overlooks the main access road and sloping landscape, while the adjacent wooden deck and terrace capture views of the extraordinary landscape.
“Memorable to the experience is the 'sanctuary' of the courtyard space, whose edges are defined by ambiguous indoor outdoor thresholds of the transparent internal spaces, sitting between the refuge of a monumental basalt 'Garden Wall' and the broader natural volcanic landscape.” The semi-enclosed garden is protected by a caged stone wall protecting the privacy on the front side downstairs spaces. An interesting mixture of different windows were used to flood the interior with light – corner windows at the front entrance and upstairs, vertical windows, glass walls and sliding doors throughout the house. Different naturally colored frames – from thin to modern bay windows – adorn the intricate floor plan. You will be amazed by the different vantage points offering splendid views, just check out the video below, filmed during the construction and enjoy!

| A Fresh Indoor Design Idea: Round Window Bookcase Posted: 27 Feb 2012 08:36 AM PST
What better place for a reading corner, than next to a beautiful window, with garden views? In today’s find, this place of refugee also comes with a nice bonus: a round bookcase. Designed by Fabio Galeazzo, as part of a colorful “Urban Cabin” in Sao Paoplo, Brazil, the project is unconventional and adds a great aesthetic effect. In the photos below, the contrast between the black round bookcase and the surrounding colors contributes to a playful, happy atmosphere. But if you enjoy sober home environments more, you can associate a black, white or gray shelf with neutral wallpapers. Either way, encircling a round window with this type of bookcase is a fresh indoor idea. Find this design idea as practical and witty as we do?
