Designer Thomas Eurlings created a series of intriguing gradient curtains and carpets with a vertical fade which give the illusion of more indoor space. This is possible due to the ability of the designs to make the ceiling look more lighter and higher than it actually is. According to Thomas Eurlings, the gradient curtain and carpet were developed for the head office of Brainport Development in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. They are said to not only contribute to the illusion of extra height, but also to a better acoustics of the space, due to the silk fabric used for the curtain. For future projects, the colors and the fading will be adjusted by the designer according to the characteristics of each interior. We find this to be an interesting and helpful idea for small spaces. These type of perspective-changing decorative ideas do not just enhance the space, but bring a colorful, fresh touch as well.

Welcome to a colorful small apartment in Barcelona, Spain, especially designed to answer the living needs of a young couple. Found on MiCasa, this happy home is filled with personality and original design elements. Tall ceilings, exposed beams, pipes and plenty of color-all these elements reinvent the sober industrial style and contribute to a fresh atmosphere. With a clever and space-saving layout, every corner of this small apartment is taken advantage of to the fullest. A bright orange armchair and ottoman is the focal point of the living area and creates a wonderful reading spot next to the large window. Practical furniture solutions (a coffee table on wheels, built-in storage space, a suspended small bed) give the sensation of a decluttered, playful home. In recent years, we have seen a rise in the popularity of home interiors deemed to be following the trend for ‘Industrial Chic’. Those who have opted in to this trend have given their homes a distinctly industrial feel through the use of more industrial materials such as cement and metal which may not necessarily have been used in traditional residential home interiors.
The Twenty Cemento kitchen by Italian kitchen manufacturer Modulnova, is perfect for any industrial chic residential space. Using an extraordinary new resin technology, the cabinets can be coated in a 3mm liquid concrete layer. The coating dries to a silky smooth, durable finish and is intriguingly cool to the touch but with warm natural stone tones.
The cement finish is complimented by the black granite Nero Assoluto sink and the brushed and oiled wooden breakfast bar which is cantilevered off the central island.
The pure lines of the kitchen, especially the tall cupboards, conceal appliances and storage spaces which, as with all Modulnova designs, are organised and accessorised to order. The internal cupboards and drawers feature accessories specifically designed to organise work spaces and storage spaces.

Ever wondered how a massive bookcase can become part of a working space? This is a fantastic solution – constructing a round bookcase hovering above the work space. Designed by Travis Price Architects, this interesting space arrangement was created for Wade Davis. He needed a space that would encompass his interests. Being an anthropologist, ethnobotanist, author and photographer, Wade Davis’ Writing Studio had to convey a feeling of enthusiasm and knowledge, so Travis Price Architects imagined a cave-inspired design that would capture natural light and bring it inside.
By building a dome above Dave’s workspace, the architect designed an unusual space that would display the most used books, which enables the client to interact with his them in an inspiring setting. The architects describes this dome “as similar to the rotunda of the oracle's temple at Delphi“, while Davis calls it his “Navajo kiva of knowledge“. As they say, “with great power comes great responsibility” – this in seen in the respect this arrangement has for the books and their human counterpart. Envisioned by the creative team from Lee Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership, the modern Ani Villas overlooking Little Bay, in Anguilla, Caribbean, are in many ways mesmerizing. Today’s post is dedicated to the project entitled Ani South, one of the buildings that make up this stunning cliff-side duo. According to the official description of the villa, “Ani South sits on the southern side of the estate and looks directly down into Little Bay with its shimmering blue waters. The master bedrooms, indoor and outdoor living spaces are oriented toward the breathtaking western view down the Anguilla coast line and sunset views“. Some of the features of the 5-bedroom residence include the possibility for indoor and outdoor dining, roof deck lounge, pool deck lounge, tennis court and gym area. But what I personally appreciate about this project is that if you were to take away its incredible location and its exterior entertainment facilities, other appealing characteristics would still remain. I am talking of course, of its interior design, filled with organic decorative elements that add freshness and personality.
