| Sustainable Home Conversion in Southampton: Flying Point Residence Posted: 23 Feb 2012 05:58 AM PST
Flying Point Residence is a project envisioned and implemented by studio Stelle Architects. The two-story building is located in Southampton, New York, USA, and is a remodel of an old home the owner wished to recondition. Many materials found by the architects within the initial residence were recycled. Here is more from the official description. "House and garden design become a bridge between two different bodies of water: gentle Mecox Bay to the north and wild Atlantic Ocean to the south. An existing house was radically transformed as opposed to being demolished. Substantial effort was undertaken in order to reuse, rethink and modify existing conditions and materials. The plans were reworked to create smaller, staggered volumes, which are visually disconnected. Deep overhangs were added to strengthen the indoor/outdoor relationship and new bay to ocean views through the structure result in house as breezeway and bridge.” We appreciate the efforts behind this home conversion and are curious to see your reactions as well.

| Modern Attitude Kitchen by Arthur Bonnet Posted: 23 Feb 2012 04:00 AM PST
Designed by Marc Moreau for French kitchen manufacturer Arthur Bonnet, the Attitude kitchen is contemporary design that uses wood in a modern way, whilst paying tribute to traditional French cabinet making techniques. Made from bright ash, with its light and vibrant grain, the material choice is less predictable than more traditional oak. Ash has a strong personality and is a solid and reassuring type of wood, which conveys emotion.
The warmth and emotion of the wood contrasts with the stainless steel glimmer of the recessed handles which use an original mechanism that is exclusive to Arthur Bonnet. The design uses a recessed system to preserve the line of the metal along the entire side of the front.
The island layout provides a very successful division of the space, with its easily identifiable work areas. The Attitude kitchen makes a real statement about ergonomics. Thanks to its U-shaped design, the island frees up space for an integrated dining area with a wood and white laminate table extending the worktop.
We’d love to know what you think about the Attitude kitchen so please leave us a comment below. You're reading Modern Attitude Kitchen by Arthur Bonnet originally posted on Freshome. If you've enjoyed this post, be sure to follow Freshome on Twitter, Facebook and Google+ |
| Minty and Blue Used to Define a Colorful Apartment in Brazil Posted: 23 Feb 2012 02:46 AM PST
Project RLHouse was designed by São Paulo-based studio Guilherme Torres and consists of a generously-sized (1,560 square feet) contemporary apartment, located in Curitiba, Brazil. The owners were not pleased with the traditional look of their old home, so they commissioned the studio to create a new appearance and bring a fresh atmosphere to their apartment. Here is more from the official project description: “The base for the decoration was the fusion of polymer cement, minty and blue colors and the use of a whole wall covered in pinus, a wood that has virtually no commercial value in Brazil. Another high point of the project was to expose the structural column right in the entrance door, composing a beautiful set with the dinner table. The kitchen received furniture in black lacquer, counter-tops in Corian and Smeg home appliances. An important point is: all the main pieces such as tables, sideboards and sofa are designed by the architect”. How do you like this vivid design mix?

| Playing With Food: Transportation Plates by Boguslaw Sliwinski Posted: 23 Feb 2012 01:24 AM PST
Playing with food is not only acceptable, but also fun and creative when it comes to modern ceramics design. These awesome Plates by Polish designer Boguslaw Sliwinski introduce us into a somehow forbidden mealtime tradition – playing with food. Displaying a transportation theme, the ceramic Transportation Plates are a fun way of enjoying a healthy meal. Childish lines shaping different means of transport – by truck, crane, boat, train, helicopter or forklift – adorn six white round plates composing a complete dinnerware set. Simple ceramics in black and white come alive once food is added – exotic fruits or common peas find their place on the transportation surfaces drawn on each plate. Spotted on Beautiful Life, these fresh plates are available in two versions: the 20,5 cm in diameter and the larger, 26 cm one.

| Modern Villa Surrounded by Hungarian Vineyards Posted: 22 Feb 2012 09:24 AM PST We recently received inspiring photos on a Modern Villa in Hungary. Built in the suburbs of a vineyard-intersected provincial town in Hungary, the modern home sits on a slightly sloped terrain. This allowed architects Polla Bauer and András Ónodi to design a sober, elegant and modern residential construction that displays a two-storey front facade continued under a gable roof with a single story floor plan in the back. A simple yet effective geometry combines the subtle front facade with a challenging set of vantage points unveiling different design angles. Set at the end of the street, this white contemporary villa sits under a dark roof and is shaded by dark cladding in the front and along the roof line.
These effects create a homogeneous contemporary composition soften by wood insertions pierced by glass. The front part of the house contains bedrooms and the kitchen, while the back side opens to the garden, creating an ideal place for placing social spaces. The street level space contains the garage, laundry room and storage, while on top of them lies the kitchen which opens to the social spaces in the back and private rooms on each side. This ensures privacy for both the parents and their two teenage children. What is the most amazing thing about this family residence – the floor plan, location among vineyards, interesting facade or bold, modern interiors designed by Geppetto?
