| Long, Tall and Narrow Plak Residence by Propeller Z Posted: 20 Feb 2012 04:52 AM PST
Designed by Austrian architecture studio Propeller Z, this imposing architectural structure in Vienna displays a terraced profile that contours the skies. Acting as a family home, the “Plak ” residence has gardens and terraces that keep the inhabitants strongly connected to nature. Three characteristics of the site led to the structure’s shape and size – steep, long and narrow. In order to have the best views and space arrangement, the architecture had to become part of the terrain – this resulted in cantilevered and carved volumes.
The entry on the ground floor welcomes family and guest with a sculptural staircase leading up to one of the bedrooms and the office space. A mirrored wall reflects the elegant wooden shapes of the staircase and everyone can enjoy its unusual geometric shape while heading upstairs. The first floor home office is flooded with natural light and encapsulated in a part glass part bookshelf division. The upper floors include living and entertaining zones and the modern kitchen – all of these benefit from natural light and splendid views. Terraces with sliding glass doors open up the interiors to the outdoor space, while dark-framed windows capture views of the neighborhood and the passing of seasons.

| Spectacular Home in Mexico Opening up Towards The Ocean: Casa Almare Posted: 20 Feb 2012 03:41 AM PST
Casa Almare was designed by Guadalajara Studio Elas Rizo Arquitectos and is located in Porto Vallarta, Mexico. The attention to detail in this five-bedroom contemporary villa is indisputable, no matter what your stand point is. Even though the residence has a total of four levels, only one is visible from the street, as the rest descend dramatically, yet harmoniously, towards the ocean, on the opposite side. Wooden exterior panels can be used to literally shut and open the residence towards the surrounding environment. The outdoor terrace is continued by a lavish pool, where inhabitants can enjoy relaxing swimming with amazing views. All of the rooms of the residence have large windows overlooking the ocean, which transforms even the most common indoor activities (such as eating, or showering) into nature spectacles. Materials such as stone and tropical wood add warmth and originality to the interiors of this inspiring and tastefully-designed modern home. It is difficult to pinpoint just one detail, but what is your favorite design element of this project?

| Highly Modern Apartment Design in Russia by Alexey Nikolashina Posted: 20 Feb 2012 02:38 AM PST
Architectural bureau SL Project founded by by Russian architect Alexey Nikolashina completed a modern apartment design in Moscow, Russia. Lacquer finishes set the tone for the apartment, making this home highly modern and a bit flashy. The living room is the core of the crib and hosts a generously-sized sofa, a small coffee table and an interesting TV, fireplace and bookcase unit. The lighting is insured by a tall, arched floor lamp and various cylindrical pendant lamps which seem to descend from the ceiling. Lighting spots behind the bookcase add an interesting touch. The bar and kitchen area are connected to a small room, hosting only a friendly table for four. But the extravagant appearance of this apartment is tempered by fresh decorative elements, such as flower arrangements or pebble stone. Do you find this project cozy or a bit too “sparkly” ?

With a total indoor living surface of 560 square meters, the project is structured on two floors, and features four bedrooms and six bathrooms. | Welcoming Family Home in Colorado: Kennedy Residence Posted: 20 Feb 2012 12:17 AM PST
Natural materials such as stone and wood make the Kennedy Residence Boulder in Colorado a warm and welcoming crib. Designed by Semple Brown, the project consists of three major living zones, built around the mature trees on the site and connected to each other by public spaces and courtyards. According to the architects,”the first wing welcomes guests into the main hallway and acts as a connecting axis into Wings 2 and 3. The flowing and unobtrusive layout of this wing, allows the kitchen to function as the heart of the house. The second wing emerges from the family room off of the kitchen and bends back to create the children's rooms and a secluded master suite at the end of a long stone hall. The entry court is framed by a stone wall that bends around the garage, play room, barn, and guest suite creating the third wing“. We invite to take a virtual tour of this modern home and tell us if you find its layout inspiring.
