Ostentatious Modern Homes: Portfolio of Kelly Behun Studio Posted: 15 Feb 2012 06:01 AM PST An interesting feature of Kelly Behun’s work is the way she manages to mirror urban life in her projects. For today we decided to showcase some of the interiors envisioned and implemented by the studio of the modern artist, as we consider they represent a real American design trend nowadays. Seen on Desire to Inspire, the imposing penthouses feature an elegant and minimalist design, defined by a soft color palette. Intriguing lighting schemes and subtle decorations make for good sources of inspiration. Studio Kelly Behun is the result of a design collaboration with artist Alex P. White and is ran according to the slogan: “It is when two disparate ideas collide, creative sparks fly and the best design is realized“. Modern Beach Cottage With Unobstructed Views of the Atlantic Ocean Posted: 15 Feb 2012 04:39 AM PST This picturesque beach cottage was designed by Roger Marvel Architects and is located in Amagansett, New York. Whaler’s Lane Residence is a project consisting of a renovation and expansion of an existing building overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The new additions include a swimming pool, jacuzzi, and trellis, kitchen, second floor bedroom, and terrace. Here is a short description from the architects: “The original oceanfront beach cottage that occupied the site was reutilized conceptually for the project by maintaining similar materials and profiles to create a contextual residence.This property includes a large sand dune, that protects the project from strong winds, and public beach activity alike. The Landscaping has been accomplished with native materials and maintained with erosion control methods including Long wooden beach palates and boardwalks used to traverse the dune to the beach and guest house“. Kiev Residence Built With Locally Resourced Materials [Video] Posted: 15 Feb 2012 03:32 AM PST With its location resonating in the name, the Kiev Residence occupies a green lot in a residential area of Kiev, Ukraine. Local architects of Yunakov Architecture Construction collaborated with the owner to create a stunning individual architecture style that would encompass the inhabitants’ needs and preferences. The eco-friendly residential construction uses locally resourced materials and energy-saving technologies – double glazing or LED-lighting – to keep a low impact on the environment. It was built almost entirely using Ukrainian materials – wood, stone and brick – and custom furnished with a series of items designed by the architect and carefully chosen lighting systems. Designed for a young family with three children under 7, the residence had to meet all the requirements for a set of dynamic personalities. Each of the three children were given the possibility of expressing their personal style by choosing the colors, lights and details for their own room, although all three kids bedrooms were the same in design. With two floors and three terrace gardens – one on each floor and a rooftop garden – the 6,450 square foot Kiev Residence shelters under its roof a charming collection of spaces: 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a study, a theater room, kitchen, dining room, a double-height hall with a fireplace, and a four car garage, all splashed with perfectly adapted muted tones. Vertical windows and beautifully designed rounded corners on the facade give the house a modern vertical ascent while the natural color duo displayed on the brick exterior adds a playful character to the whole residential construction. Fresh Blue, Orange And White Take-Away Fruit Bar Posted: 15 Feb 2012 02:29 AM PST If your love for fruits and love for design would merge, this would be the final result. The Fruitaway in Valencia, Spain, was designed by industrial graphic designer Alexander Catala of Alxstudio, in collaboration with Sara Gomez and Carmen Moreno. The take-away fruit bar was opened by four entrepreneurs and aimed at fruit consumers. With over 30 varieties of liquids, juices, smoothies and milkshakes made out of 100% fruit or combined with milk, chocolate, custard, yogurt or tiramisu, the Fruitaway also offers a variety of fun toppings like chocolate chips, white chocolate, biscuits, muesli or Greek yoghurt. Spotted on Diario Design, Fruitaway was recently opened, in December 2011, and since then, it has inspired and brought a fresh fruit-based collection of products to the public. This new health bar concept combines playful details in blue and orange with sleek furniture items, all set on a white background. Accompanied by fresh signage that perfectly compliments the overall design, Fruitaway displays a modern interior design aimed at pleasing the customers. Inspiring Warmth, Despite Its Highly Modern Look: DellPlain Residence in USA Posted: 14 Feb 2012 09:58 AM PST E. Cobb Architects completed the development of the imposing DellPlain Residence in USA, a project characterized by originality and contemporary design features. Defined by wood, glass and concrete, the exterior has an irregular shape, partially due to the inclined terrain the residence was built on. The house is surrounded by lush vegetation, mirrored by generously-sized windows. A picturesque stone fence flanks one of the facades, giving a rustic touch and enhancing the feel of a holiday home. Once inside, a potential visitor will probably be impressed with the overall feeling of space. Despite their modern design, the interiors are defined by wood and a subtle use of color, which inspires warmth. The open plan living room is the focal point of the project and also the place with the best views. Best for family gatherings, this interior is abundant in natural light and good vibes. Modern Home Overlooking the Pacific Ocean: Palmerston Project in Canada Posted: 14 Feb 2012 07:39 AM PST We received photos and information about a modern residence designed by Mehran Mansouri and built from scratch by Dcube Construction ltd. Here is the press release we were sent: “The Palmerston Project is the presentation of an imagination that consists of modern sensuality alongside luxury situated in West Vancouver, BC, Canada with a 180-degree view of the Pacific Ocean. At the very core, this project was built on a steel structure to be able to withstand natural disasters. The house consists of three levels placed on a 8400 sq. ft. site with just under 4000 sq. ft. of finished living space. The main floor consists of a large open-space living room utilizing the full width of the building, brightened by over-size sliding doors on the south side of the house overlooking the water, with the linear kitchen situated at the north side of the space. The bottom floor consists of an entertainment room, indoor cinema, and the 4th bedroom. At the top floor of the house, you will find 3 bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. Two features of the project include a large 1200 sq. ft. deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and a waterfall on top of the full-concrete garage. We aspired to bring warmth to modern architecture with the use of natural materials in addition to integrating all city restrictions to our advantage through the efficient use of space”.
