World Market Las Vegas Winter 2012 : A Glimpse Into Design Ideas and Trends Posted: 07 Feb 2012 03:58 AM PST During the week of January 30, 2012 – Las Vegas, Nevada was the destination spot for designers, architects, and all design professionals of the home trade industry. World Market Las Vegas – Winter 2012, was an opportunity to see the latest trends in home design and to see what buyers will be choosing for their clients, and stores. In 2012 it looks like the trend is towards metallics, neutrals, but still bold colors and unique textures and patterns are making a strong statement. Take a look at some of the great trends I found.
‘The design of the Bio Blaze fireplace is specifically created for your interior and exterior decoration. They were imagined to make your interior more cordial. In an apartment, in a house or a loft, these fireplaces are easy to attach to the wall or to place in open spaces, both for interior and exterior use’. There was so much to see at the market that it was truly a feast for the eyes, senses, and mind. Showrooms of textiles, rugs, furniture, decor, and more seemed to overtake all of us who witnessed the event. I thank World Market Center for inviting Freshome, it was truly a wonderful experience. When people hear the Italian word Vespa, it is instantly associated with Piaggio scooters. The word actually means “wasp” and was used by Enrico Piaggio for his scooters when they first appeared in 1942, because of their appearance and the buzzing noise that the two stroke engine created. By turning this 1968 vespa into a work station, its fate was sealed in an original, practical way. #8. Steve Wheen is the artistic mind behind a great blog entitled the pothole gardener. Calistoga Residence With Two Outdoor Entertaining Spaces Posted: 07 Feb 2012 01:55 AM PST Designed as a comfortable retreat from stressful daily life, the Calistoga Residence is an old residential building redesigned by Strening Architects and made to fit the needs and wishes of a Washington DC couple who wanted to relocate. This 25 acre property is located in Calistoga, California, a delightful place with wonderful weather. Californian studio Strening Architects revamped the original construction – described by them as a “poorly conceived series of stucco boxes with no relationship to the outdoor spaces, or the distant vistas” -and offered their clients the possibility of enjoying distant mountain views and the serenity of the surrounding nature. A series of large windows, the outdoor living, dining and entertaining areas and the poolside terrace encourage the couple to spend more time outdoors: “Our design response was to create two distinct outdoor 'loggias' on the front and back of the house to take advantage of wine country indoor/outdoor living, and to completely re-imagine the front of the house to allow the spectacular view of the Napa Valley to become part of their living experience. The simple palette of materials, stone, stucco, wood and steel are used in a way to bring some refined elegance to the property; reflecting the sophisticated vision of the clients“, declared the architects. Once you start looking at the photos, you’ll fins many details worth mentioning. You're reading Calistoga Residence With Two Outdoor Entertaining Spaces originally posted on Freshome. Interesting Modern Home Addition in Rhinebeck, New York Posted: 07 Feb 2012 12:48 AM PST Lake Drive House Addition was envisioned and implemented by Martin Holub Architects and consist of a 600 square feet addition to an existing house located in Rhinebeck, New York.. The new project (found on Architizer) accommodates a meeting room, a laundry room, a bathroom, a generous hot tub and a lounge area connected to an outdoor patio. According to the architects, the owner hoped that the new building would be “an integral part of the house, rather than an obvious slap on. He also hoped that the addition would significantly enhance the design standard of the house“. The glass enclosed addition is the result of a minimalist architecture approach. The materials used- glass, concrete, stone and western red cedar- contribute to a modern looking construction that can host a variety of activities. Modular Stainless Steel Kitchen from Vipp Posted: 06 Feb 2012 11:38 PM PST Vipp is renowned for its iconic dustbins, which it has been producing since 1939. However, the Danish company has now become synonymous with quality products for the kitchen and bathroom. In a recent move to expand its product portfolio, Vipp launched one of its most sensational product-developments in the form of a radical reinterpretation of the kitchen. "Vipp's experience lies within product design focusing on solid materials, mechanics and function,” says Morten Bo Jensen, chief designer at Vipp. “As a consequence we have chosen to design the Vipp kitchen as a product or rather as a piece of furniture. The result is a range of kitchen modules where choices have already been made based on a thorough knowledge of materials combined with an aesthetic opinion on what constitutes good design." With over 70 years of steel processing experience, stainless steel was an obvious choice of material in the development of the Vipp kitchen. "Like with the Vipp bin, we bring the industrial look into the home with the new kitchen – a solid product, standing to be used day after day," says Morten Bo Jensen. The Vipp kitchen provides a range of modules in different sizes that can be combined and formed according to an individual’s needs. The kitchen is available in black and white and looks just as impressive in both colourways. What do you think of this kitchen? And what colour do you prefer it in? Practical Urban Furniture: Mobile Tree Bench by Rogier Martens Posted: 06 Feb 2012 11:16 AM PST Utrecht-based spatial designer Rogier Martens designed a clever and practical urban furniture piece, entitled Tree Bench. The artist was commissioned to create a temporary sitting unit for a public park and the result- well, you are looking at it. Here is a statement from the designer: “I actively used the environment designing the Tree Bench for the municipality of Amersfoort and worked with the elements that the park had to offer: trees, city walls, paths, and grass. It is no challenge to just dig a hole and install a bench. An ideal bench needs the environment and the environment needs the bench too. To achieve that goal a bench contributes to the park as a walk, sit, rest, kiss, lie, meet, watch, dog walk, day-dream, stretch, run, think, decide, smoke and lunch spot“. And to top it all, it looks very interesting. How do you find its design? You're reading Practical Urban Furniture: Mobile Tree Bench by Rogier Martens originally posted on Freshome. Colorful, Nature-Inspired Hair Salon for Kids in New York Posted: 06 Feb 2012 10:04 AM PST It is incredible how many interior design niches are out there, just waiting to be discovered and exploited. For today we would like to present this colorful hair salon for kids, envisioned by Andrea Mason/Architect. Located in New York, the project is particularly targeted at children under 10 and its design was developed accordingly. Here is more from the official description provided by the designer: “Working off the idea of bringing a playful sense of nature in the space, a custom wall graphic with botanical and animal illustrations and a tree were designed as part of the concept for the space.
