Concrete Buenos Aires House by Vanguarda Architects Posted: 06 Feb 2012 02:36 AM PST Glass, wood and concrete were used to give the residence an interesting depth – wood is used as an accent and glass helps illuminate the interior with bright natural light. Dressed in a concrete play of volumes, this Buenos Aires property was designed by Vanguarda Architects. The wooden entrance door seems to be part of the architecture and welcomes family and guest inside, where a double-height space faces the almost entirely glazed backside. Sheltering impressively modern spaces spread over 502 square meters, the concrete residence is locate in Buenos Aires, Argentina. An L-shaped ground floor is completed by a rectangular first floor. Downstairs, living and entertaining spaces, alongside the cooking and dining spaces were gathered in an open space floor plan. Leading to the next floor, the white staircase seen from the outside slowly disappears in the discreet set of private upstairs spaces. On the inside, a fabulous glass bridge connects the upstairs master suite from the other two bedrooms. Bold splashes of color break the monotony and liven up the space, while the retractable glass doors fully connect the interiors to the outdoors. Old Theater in LA Turned into Modern Restaurant: Mohawk Bend Posted: 05 Feb 2012 11:04 PM PST We received an intriguing architecture conversion from Spacecraft Group. Here is the official press release we were sent: “Mohawk Bend opened its doors on August 1, 2011 in the eclectic neighborhood of Echo Park, Los Angeles, CA. Owner Tony Yanow hired Kristofer Keith of Spacecraft Group to completely transform the 100-year old Vaudeville Theater into four custom designed rooms. Keith remodeled the space with exposed plywood, extensive metal work and brick interior throughout the 10,000 square foot restaurant. One would find themselves entering through the "quad" beneath cathedral ceilings into a dining area filled with comfortable booth seating and mirrored walls. At the center of entertainment, stands a communal table positioned between dual bars that serve 75 beers on tap. Next to it, you will find an open kitchen boasting a custom-built Woodstone oven serving vegan and traditional food. Further in towards the end of the restaurant, Keith installed a 20ft mosaic glass wall separating the brew pub area from the Ramona Room. Named after the original vaudeville theater, the Ramona Room is a beautiful concealed dining area featuring a high ceiling, skylights, brick walls, and a cozy fireplace. The space is versatile in that it can be completely private with the curtains drawn or with them open making it an ideal place to host events. So far, Mohawk has held intimate gatherings, a wedding reception and are in the processing of planning a large scale network television show wrap party. The natural light, plants and trees also add to the outdoorsy ambiance”. What is your stand on this architecture conversion?
