Pure White Highgate Apartment Split Into Half-Levels Posted: 02 Feb 2012 06:44 AM PST TG Studio, with architecture and design offices in London, were the ones who envisioned this serene and contemporary white space. Clearly influenced by the owner’s Norwegian upbringing, this classy Highgate Apartment in a mid terraced house near Hampstead Heath displays a sculptured interior design, carefully placed to incorporate views of Parliament Hill. Evoking memories of the owner’s mountainous and brightly landscaped homeland, the interior design spreads over three half levels that merge to shape a unitary overall design. Connected by a sculptural glass staircase with wooden steps, the levels are beautifully separated but keep a semi-transparent design that allows natural light to floor every corner of the apartment. Sheltering three bedrooms and two bathrooms on top of the bright entertaining space – kitchen, living and dining areas – the open spaces feature naturally treated Norwegian Pine floors and modern white furniture throughout. This is one of the few completely white spaces that can be considered exceptional. You're reading Pure White Highgate Apartment Split Into Half-Levels originally posted on Freshome. Five Timelessly Designed Chairs: The Sezz Collection Posted: 02 Feb 2012 05:48 AM PST Chair manufacturing brand Emeco presented the new Sezz Collection of seating at Maison & Objet in Paris this January. Designed in collaboration with French designer Christophe Pillet, the chair collection is made of aluminum chairs, stools and swivel chairs and were originally created for the Sezz Hotel in St.Tropez – hence the name. Launched as a five piece collection that display a timeless design, Sezz features two kinds of recycled aluminum shells – with or without upholstery pads. Manufactured at the Emeco factory in Pennsylvania, the chairs and stools tell the story of the Emeco brand, “an interpretation of the Emeco way“, as Pillet describes them. The Sezz Collection by Christophe Pillet for Emeco is described by its designer as follows: “The look is very subtle, but holds an unbelievable quality; you don't see the welding, the recycled aluminum, the indestructibleness, they are all real but invisible values, the hidden territory of a luxury product.” You're reading Five Timelessly Designed Chairs: The Sezz Collection originally posted on Freshome. Dark Mountain House Mirroring the Surroundings Posted: 02 Feb 2012 04:31 AM PST This dark-cladded mountain house, designed by Miurashin Architect + Associates, is camouflaged between trees on a sloping terrain in Karuizawa, Japan. A pavilion reached via a metal bridge welcomes family and guests to the warm and contemporary interiors, dressed in wood via a top floor pavilion. Living and entertaining spaces are sheltered by the middle floor, while the lower ground is occupied by the private spaces. Imposing with its mysterious presence and mirroring the surrounding forest in its windows, the mountain residence is anchored to the slope in three places. Its architecture appeals to the owner’s need for connecting to the surroundings in a very personal way – this led to creating a sloping staircase-resembling rooftop used for contemplating the forest views. Vertical windows and cladding strive to imitate the tall trees around, better integrating the architecture with nature. Is this type of dark, modern architecture your cup of tea? Overade Cycling Helmet To Be Launched In 2012 Posted: 02 Feb 2012 03:31 AM PST Designed back in 2010, the sleek helmet will enter production this year, in 2012. Thanks to its creator, Patrick Jouffret of French Agency 360 studio, the helmet displays a unisex design built to offer protection just as much as a standard bicycle helmet would, but its folding feature makes it easier to carry and fit in different carry-ons. Seeing that this helmet is still a prototype, it would be interesting to see if the same techniques and design could be applied in the construction field. Just imagine construction workers with a lunch box and an Overade Cycling Helmet – this could be the way the future is represented. Not only versatile spaces or furniture pieces can be designed to be compact and occupy less space, this feature can be extended to many items and the Overade cycling helmet proves that design is extremely flexible. Scroll down to see not only the photos of the product, but also a paper model and individual helmet pieces before assembly. Now it’s your turn to tell us what you think about the Overade Cycling Helmet.
