Dynamic ZigZag Architecture in Mexico: Casa Diaz

Casa Diaz by Productora Dynamic ZigZag Architecture in Mexico: Casa Diaz

What does this dream home have special? Well, apart from its exceptional location and splendid modern architecture, Casa Diaz displays an interesting array of wonderful features. Casa Diaz occupies a sloping lot in an upper class neighborhood in Valle de Bravo, Mexico. With an astonishing location on a corner lot with trees protecting the privacy and guiding the views towards the lake, Casa Diaz was built as a series of three elongated rectangular volumes stacked in a zigzag pattern that help better capture panoramic views from the terraces and framed views from behind the glazed walls.

Mexico City–based office Productora worked on the challenging residential project by developing ideas through intuitive explorations – as the architects beautifully explain their style. The street facade hides the fantastic architecture behind a wall of natural stone. The small portion of the house seen from the front of the building was built according to urban planning requirements – a white plastered facade crowned with elegant wood and subtle roof tiles. But from the lakeside, its true nature shows – a contemporary residence shaped by a dynamic architecture that welcomes natural light inside each space.

Spa House 03 800x533 Spectacular Modern Home in South Africa: Spa House

Metropolis Design have completed the impressive Spa House located in Hout Bay, coastal suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. The project consisted of a multi-functional building with living, recreational and spa features, annexed to a larger residence, integrated in a delightful mountain setting. According to the architects, “the house is conceived of as a hovering set of elements, suspended over a large waterscape, which forms an extended terrace on the mountainside. Water constitutes the primary experience of the building. The floor planes are arranged to provide contrasting experiences of water, and the underwater spa with large viewing windows into the pool has a sense of stillness and mystery.Formally, the building comprises a number of separate sculptural forms in a dynamic composition. The base of the building, incorporating pools, relaxation rooms and guest accommodation is entirely of concrete. The superstructure is of steel construction, which is clad in afromosia shiplap boards on timber studwork." Looking forward to your reactions and comments regarding the overall design of this modern home.

Unusual Soft Marble Armchair by Maurizio Galante

Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman completed an original armchair design for Italian manufacturer Cerruti Baleri. Entitled Louis XV goes to Sparta, this chair may look stiff and uninviting, but in reality it is made of materials that ensure comfortable seating. According to the designers, the chair’s framework is composed of a plywood structure and CFC-free soft polyurethane foam, with an internal dacron cover and separate seating cushion made of polyurethane. The piece is then upholstered with an external cover made of 100% silk that is finished with a photographic print of carrara marble. Louis XV comes in three marble tattoo versions: carrara, which is currently in production, along with portasanta and grande antico. With an impressive appearance, this armchair can be placed in a minimalist contemporary living rooms, with a striking effect. Would you consider having such a chair in your home, or do you find it too extravagant?

Perfect Californian Creekside Retreat by Amy Alper

Creekside Cabin by Amy Alper Perfect Californian Creekside Retreat by Amy Alper

Dreaming about a weekend retreat surrounded by appealing and enticing natural elements? Then this gorgeous architectural project including remodeling and additions will revive your inspiration. Recently send to us by architect Amy Alper, the Creekside Cabin located in Santa Rosa, California was a challenging project that brought a modern atmosphere in the old construction and opened up the interiors to receiving natural light and exceptional views. As described by the architect, the Creekside Cabin is an example of building alongside nature: “Beautifully situated among shady firs and redwoods, the layout of this 1920's shingle-style cabin nonetheless precluded views to the nearby boulder-strewn creek. Stringent regulations limited new construction to only "previously disturbed" riparian areas around the existing cabin and no more than thirty-three percent additional conditioned space was allowed.

The new living room and hallway addition roughly follow the outline of an underutilized exterior deck. Structural steel beams and posts, set at deck support locations, carry a cantilevered floor, achieving maximum allowable new square footage with no increased site disturbance. The dismantled redwood deck members were reused on site as were two period windows removed to allow the connection between old and new. The original cabin exterior is preserved and featured as a backdrop to the new spaces. The living room is set under an extension of the existing roofline while the hallway is defined by a shallower roof pitch that gestures toward the creek. Smooth white walls contrast textured dark shingles, fireplace contrasts watercourse and reclaimed beams visually echo the surrounding woods. Large pane window walls maximize views to the ever changing natural setting beyond.”

Amin's Residence by Dipen Gada Associates Connected Volumes And Calming Landscaped Garden

What started out as a a three bedroom weekend house project soon turned into a five bedroom permanent residence. Indian architectural studio Dipen Gada & Associates were challenged to design the Amin's Residence and their work, completed last year, speaks about a lifestyle including a 16 feet high living space with a glazed corner and dark toned wooden flooring in the bedrooms. The spacious contemporary home sits among other residential buildings in the west of Vadodara City, India. The 8,240 square foot Amin's Residence is made out of three different blocks - a white entrance block, a sesame wood block housing living spaces and a double-height block in the backside. The two story home has a central dining room seating 12 and connecting all the other public spaces (living room, home theater, kitchen) and the private areas (bedrooms and bathrooms) going out into nature by continuing with the swimming pool, open deck and Zen garden.  Unique details adorn the spaces: “A beautiful puja room is very well placed in this central foyer. A custom designed art lamp with the theme 'Journey' is hung from the double height in the center of the staircase. This lamp is designed and conceptualized by Mr. Dipen Gada himself and executed by Mr. Manish Maheshwari. This is one of the unique features of the house.

Stylish Hunter House Relieving Stress Through Design

Hunter House by Darren Carnell Architects Stylish Hunter House Relieving Stress Through Design

Unique amongst the traditional brick neighboring houses, the Hunter House in Australia displays a hard to ignore modern style. Designed by Darren Carnell Architect, the stylish villa follows the trending desire for a seamless floor plan that would incorporate interior and exterior spaces. An interior courtyard was shaped by placing the living room and gallery on each side and having an open plan made of the foyer and dining space surround the exterior space. This space arrangement also helps flood the interiors with natural light. Timber and stone shape an interesting interior design and large glazed walls connect both the private and public spaces to parkland views beyond the glass.  If the downstairs is reserved for the social and entertaining spaces, the upstairs shelters private retreats and relaxation corners that make the house perfectly adapted to the inhabitant’s needs. Within these amazing spaces you can find great inspiration sources – maybe the furniture has something that caught your attention or maybe the folding glass doors out to the courtyard would be a nice addition to your own home. Whatever it is, we would love to know your favorite detail in the photos below.
