Receiving photos of the Fraser Residence meant being inspired by the modern design lines and choice of contemporary furniture this house displays. Christopher Simmonds Architects knew how to transform a house into a home by choosing the perfect floor plan and materials when designing the Fraser Residence. Located in Ottawa, Ontario, the house was awarded Best Custom Urban Infill – 2011 Greater Ottawa Home Builders Association (GOHBA) Design Awards and we can see why this particular home was the winner – its architecture and interior design place it in the Dream Houses folder. According to the architects, the house displays interesting features that help the inhabitants live a comfortable, modern life: “Juxtaposed volumes define the exterior appearance of this modern home while interweaving special volumes define the expansive interior. The house takes advantage of its sloping site by inserting the garage into the lower level. This allows the elongated porch and glazed projections of the living spaces to define the home’s character in the streetscape. Subtle earth-toned brick, stained cedar siding and dark bronze aluminum glazing systems form the neutral exterior palette. Dark oak floors and cabinetry contrast the white surfaces of the gallery-like interior.”

| Inspired by the Art of Origami: Beach House in Australia Posted: 20 Jan 2012 04:13 AM PST
Studio BKK architects completed the Beach House, a 3,756 square foot contemporary home located in Victoria, Australia. According to the architects, the overall design of the residence was inspired by the art of origami, defined as “folding of spaces over and upon each other: There are a number of these folded spatial sequences within the house that allow for playful discovery and encounter as well as opportunities for varying connections between spaces. The large masonry wall forms an organisational spine to the house whilst also anchoring the various elements firmly into the landscape. This home offers various readings and differing options for occupation to the owners. It is intended that living in the house will be an unfolding series of moments, linked closely to climate and site that will continually delight and surprise.รข€ Do you find this architecture approach as daring and captivating as we do? What do you think of this home’s interior design?

| Imposing Contemporary Home in Las Vegas: Tenaya Residence Posted: 20 Jan 2012 02:26 AM PST
Las Vegas-based studio DesignCellcompleted a generously-sized contemporary home structured on two levels and accommodating five bedrooms and five bathrooms. The 6,709 square foot building entitled Tenaya Residence is located in Las Vegas and is in fact a design transformation of a former architecture project nestled in the area. Here is more from the architects: "The residence is a remodel and an expansion to an existing house within a well established neighborhood. Little remained of the old tract house appearance. The addition of a new wing and a free standing casita utilized the site in an all new way by forming a private interior courtyard which functions as an extension of the entertainment and public areas of the house. Long overhangs and curved roofs form the dynamic street elevation: a welcome addition to a settled community." The interior design of the house is highly modern and stands out due to futuristic elements and striking lighting schemes. Have a look!
