We received a colorful and inspiring small apartment from designer Cassie Potts, founder of M.dart Interiors. Here is her personal description of the crib:”I moved into my small one bedroom apartment with my Pugalier 'Duck' only a few months ago, after returning from 4 years in London. It required a lot of imagination to enable the small space to accommodate my extensive collection of eclectic trinkets and artwork from around the world. My style is a fusion of warehouse/industrial-chic and Mexican-kitsch all encapsulated in a sun-bathed Australian beach-side apartment. Even though there is barely an inch of wall or floor not adorned with a brash curios from Mexico or some graffiti-art brought off the street in East London; white walls and shelving help to show-case the bold techni-colour décor whilst not creating a sense of claustrophobia or overwhelming aesthetic-chaos. Despite the small space, the careful arrangement of design objects has created different scenes that separate and define living areas in the apartment”. We appreciate the originality and overall happy vibes this well planed apartment inspires and are looking forward to see if your comments are as positive.

| Oceanfront Modern Home in Bridgehampton, New York Posted: 17 Jan 2012 11:23 PM PST
Dune Road Residence is a three-story contemporary home designed by Stelle Architects and located in Bridgehampton, New York. This new project was built after the demolition of a former residence constructed here, as present standards require a much higher elevation, adapted to the coastal terrain. Here is more from the architects: “The goal was to keep the existing scale and dynamics of the site and design a residence that reflected the footprint and spirit of the original home. Materials for the new house include Alaskan cedar shingle panels interspersed with glass sections. The home has three levels: one for the owners, one for their guests, and one for living and dining. A simple glass and shingle pavilion overlooks a negative edge pool while a path from the garage leads through a natural seaside landscape along the pool and up to the house. Solar control is achieved though the use of overhangs in the southern exposures. Extra thick walls allow for superior insulation, and a geothermal system is employed for cooling“. Find this project inspiring?

The 727 Forest Street Residence was designed by studio 3BY Architecture and is located in Denver, Colorado, USA. Structured on two levels and accommodating four bedrooms, five bathrooms and a two car garage, the 3900 square-foot home impresses due to its sustainable features and clean, modern interiors. According to the official architects’ description,“the home is sensitively designed and compatible with its surroundings while setting a new benchmark for contemporary, user-friendly and environmentally-sensitive design. This green home provides energy efficiency, comfort and a healthy indoor environment while reducing the impact on the environment. The interior is light filled and open with high ceilings, polished concrete radiant heated floors and an extraordinary floating open steel and wood stair. The entire south side of the House has walls of glass that open to two private courtyards and the back yard. The indoor/outdoor living areas blur together and become one”. | Dark Skinned Light-Flooded Lake House in Nevada Posted: 17 Jan 2012 07:03 AM PST
Ever thought about building a home dark on the outside and filled with light on the inside? The Lake House is a perfect example of how these two elements can be successfully joined to shape a fantastic contemporary residential building. Designed by San Francisco-based Mark Dziewulski Architects, the home was initially called the Cliff House, but the current owners refers to it as “The Lake Houseâ€. The 8,694 square foot home is made out of three main building materials: concrete, steal and glass. It took four years to complete this stunning residence and the architects designed the five stories in such a manner that the light-flooded interior spaces get the best views from the nearby Lake Tahoe. The four bedroom, four bathroom home, resting on a half acre property benefits from exciting moments spent by the private pier. Exceptional details like the glass elevator and stairwell make the home more than a comfortable collection of modern spaces – they transform it into a breathtaking contemporary home. Located in Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Nevada, the luxurious waterfront home is offered at $43 million, but its architectural and design details offer inspiration for free. My favorite space in this house is the pure white laundry room with the bicycle table in the middle.

| Contemporary Design Employing Natural Materials: Lake Travis Residence Posted: 17 Jan 2012 12:02 AM PST
Lake Travis Residence was designed by Hsu Office of Architecture and is an imposing modern home located near Austin, Texas. According to the architects, “this two story custom residence utilizes a bisecting plan to offer flexible open space and respond to the grade of the site. Natural materials such as wood siding, stacked ledge stone and stucco are used to tie into the landscape. A large butterfly roof and expansive windows capture views and embrace the surrounding vista“. Some of the materials used for the exterior finishes are also present indoors, contributing to a sophisticated, yet cozy atmosphere. The interior design is contemporary and features plenty of inspiring details. A generous room on the bottom floor is separated (by a modern staircase leading to the upper level) into dining and living area. The bedrooms are located above and have floor to ceiling windows, allowing the inhabitants to fully enjoy the surrounding landscape. [Photography by Lars Frazer]
