| Modern Apartment Layout in Spain by MO..OW design Posted: 14 Dec 2011 04:26 AM PST
We recently received photos and information about a project designed by studio MO..OW design based in Moscow, Russian Federation. Here is the press release we were sent: “This new apartment location on the coast of Marbella, Spain has been chosen by the client due to its wonderful view of Gibraltar. The client wished to completely change the existing Andalusian style of interior. We chose high-tech style as subconsciously opposite to extremely hot weather during almost entire year in this area. In this project the vertical plan carries the main idea of the design. Curves were drawn in vertical plan and were pushed horizontally.
There are two basic parts as the result – two surfaces in the salon smoothly flow from ceilings to the walls and then to the floor. One of them made of glass, works as a semi-mirrored wall and doubles the space. On the opposite side and in the center of the apartment there is another surface made from three different materials: zebrano wood on the floor, framing of leather "Ferrari" color on the wall and white glass on the ceiling as a central lighting of the room. The rest of the walls in the salon were covered by beige marble as a symbol of sandy beaches along the coast. We suggested green marble as a cladding for the bathroom which has a view to inner yard, and blue marble for another bathroom with amazing sea view”. Have a look at the photos and tell us what you think of the results!

There is no denying that the tough economic climate is having an effect on our purchasing decisions. As consumers or specifiers, we are now more likely to opt for better quality products that will last longer. But we are also more interested than ever in buying products that have a reduced impact on the environment.

| Beautiful Wood Insertions in a Modern Home’s Interior Design Posted: 14 Dec 2011 12:46 AM PST
Italian architecture company Studiota transformed a residential space into a stunning contemporary home. The House Studio residential project covers 915 square feet – enough space for all the necessary facilities to be carefully reconfigured into more inviting and modern spaces. Located near Piazza Castello, on Via Bertola in Turin, Italy, the residential project features a bold and soothing combination of wooden floors and wood volumes shaping the interior design. Reconstructed with a budget of €80,000, the House Studio features living spaces on the east side, while the nighttime invites owners and guests to the west area, where the bedroom is. A thick wall stands between the two volumes of the house, separating them into the private and the social zones. Levitating alongside the white wall, a superb staircase leads up to a small but fantastic home office/study. The kitchen and dining space are simple, bright and minimalist, while the wooden volume is actually a huge storage space. Look for yourself – I’m sure you will find this apartment stunning in its simplicity!

| Redifining the Connection Between Upholstery and Fabric: Olive Chair Posted: 13 Dec 2011 08:56 AM PST
The Olive Chair was envisioned by Israeli designers Adi Tasa and Yoav Avinoam. It was created using a molded polyester-based textile which was heated and given shape. According to the designers, Olive revives the traditional way of furniture making by re-examining the bonds between upholstery and the fabric around it. By doing so, the chair gets a three dimensional surface and the result is the creation of a new texture, both visible and physical. Asked to explain the process of producing this type of surface, Yoav replied: “The base fabric is molded and then steamed. After cooling down we insert pre-molded foam balls which are more stable and firm than batting. Then we apply glue from the upholstery world to seal the fabric with a base layer of cotton“. From where we’re standing, the chair looks quite comfortable. We are curious to see what you think about its design and production process. [Photos by Yigal Pardo]

This beautiful wooden flooring from Danish manufacturer
The great thing about the planks of wood from Dinesen is the fact that they are astonishingly long and wide, making them a hit with architects who appreciate the ability to lay flooring often with no partitions or joints. Dinesen offers solid oak planks in widths of up to 50 centimetres and lengths up to 6 metres and the Douglas fir planks are available in widths up to 45cm and lengths of up to 15 metres, making them perfect for large open spaces.

I love the way that these extra long planks sweep through these interiors creating such a lovely flow throughout the space. The sheer width and length of them seems to create a feeling of space even when the rooms aren’t actually that big. Also the idea of walking on wood that had been growing for 200 years seems very romantic to me. What do you think?
