| Fun Way to Encourage Socializing: Sea Urchin Porcelain Cup Posted: 12 Dec 2011 05:22 AM PST
If you enjoy having items that remind you of cute sea animals in your home, then this porcelain cup will not leave you indifferent. Found on Etsy, this unusual product is inspired by the sea urchin, a small, spiny, globular animal which inhabits the ocean. The cup was made using high fire (2200F) porcelain clay. According to the designer’s description, the exterior of the cup is covered with smooth white glaze and the inside is covered with aqua blue. The Sea Urchin Cup could be a nice addition to any kitchen. Just imagine serving coffee and observing your friends’ reactions for the first time when seeing this cup’s funny design. Because unlike the real sea urchin that feeds on algae, this lovely household addition feeds on tea, hot chocolate and plenty of people over. How do you like it?

| Stylish Contemporary Apartment Overlooking the Baltic Sea Posted: 12 Dec 2011 04:11 AM PST
Welcome to a contemporary apartment that showcases style and inspires positive energy. Located in Saltsjöbaden, in Nacka Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden, the crib is a statement of beautiful Scandinavian design. Found on Per Jansson, the apartment has a total of three rooms and stretches over an area of 105 square meters. The core of the house is an open plan living room, featuring simple modern decorations, with plenty of seating space for guests. The kitchen is separated through a bar and all the appliances are stylishly hidden. Above the kitchen counter there is an eye-catching mosaic wall. A dining table for six, with royal-sized chairs adds a welcoming touch. The building that accommodates this apartment overlooks the Baltic Sea, which is probably why a large decorative boat was chosen to adorn the socializing area. Enjoy the photos!

| Creative Chair Design: IKEA’s Dalfred Stool with Brooks Saddle Posted: 12 Dec 2011 02:51 AM PST
We found this crazy, but very captivating design on IKEA Hackers that we just had to share further.IKEA’s Dalfred Stool was given a new fresh look with an addition that could probably puzzle some. After all, a saddle is not the most comfortable seating unit in the world. However, according to some people who experienced the chair, it is as smooth as it gets. In case you are wondering about the complexity of the building process, here is a statement from the project developers: “We replaced the nondescript seat of the Dalfred stool with a beautiful, broad, bouncy Brooks B135 leather bicycle saddle. This required grinding away some plastic at the top of the mounting post to expose metal of the right diameter to fix the saddle to. That’s pretty much it.” We really enjoyed this simple and out-of-the-box idea and are curious to see you reactions.

| Elegant and Energy Efficient: The Malbaie V Residence in Quebec Posted: 12 Dec 2011 12:51 AM PST
Located in the picturesque region of Cap-à-l'Aigle in the heart of Charlevoix, Quebec, Canada, the The Malbaie V residence was Montreal-based studio Mu Architecture and displays an inspiring design. The exterior is defined by simple geometrical volumes wrapped in wood and a green roof that insulates the building. Here is more regarding the structure of the residence from the architects: “On the ground floor, the sequence from the entrance to the main room allows for discovery through large continuous open plan absent of any apparent structure. An abundance of openings from east to west, the result of a perfect combination of solar motion, orientation and views sought, provides permanent natural light as well as optimal energy efficiency. The lower level accommodates four bedrooms and two full bathrooms arranged in a linear way following a clear axis perpendicular to the main volume above allowing for each room to get a view. The simplicity of the materials used, types of natural wood for the floor and ceiling accentuates the dramatic perspective of the main corridor”. Simple, elegant and highly efficient, calling this place a “dream crib” would probably be an understatement.
