| Modern American Home with Views of the Oklahoma Skyline Posted: 05 Dec 2011 05:45 AM PST
Fitzsimmons Architects have completed a 1,740 square foot contemporary residence in Oklahoma, USA. According to the architects, the idea was to develop a home that would respond to the Oklahoma climate: ” The result is a modernist approach, uniting a simple composition of concrete, glass, and steel. The house size is more reserved in terms of square footage, but the open floor plans combined with large areas of glazing help create spacious connections throughout the inside and neighborhood beyond. Moreover, the terraces and elevated patios help to extend the open floor plan further, blurring the distinctions between interior and exterior. The insulated poured-in-place concrete walls combined with geothermal heating and cooling allow for an innovative and energy efficient solution to comfort, while the recycled maple and rubber flooring work with the exposed steel structure and concrete walls to produce a simple yet invigorating interior.” Oklahoma Case Study House has a contemporary design and captures views of the Oklahoma skyline. | Modern Residence Capturing Beautiful Coast Views in Connecticut: Spiral House Posted: 05 Dec 2011 03:02 AM PST
Spiral House is an original looking residence designed by Joeb Moore + Partners Architects and located on the coast of Connecticut, USA. The residence was planned as an open home, fully capturing the privileges of its landscape. According to the architects’ description, “the crux of the project lies in the juxtaposition of two systems of geometry—projective and radial—defining the project's response to these environmental and social conditions in both formal and conceptual ways. Projective geometries render the site as pure landscape; that is, as an expanse of scenery that can be viewed from a single point. The radial geometry at work in the house, tied to notions of water, waves, and sea, creates the spiraling form that relates social spaces to private spaces and seamlessly adjoins interior with exterior“. The interiors are minimalist and highly contemporary, defined by large windows, with beautiful coast views.

| Daring Layout in a Generously-Sized Stockholm Apartment Posted: 05 Dec 2011 01:22 AM PST
Welcome to a spacious, modern apartment that despite its Scandinavian origins, seems sprung out a New York interior design magazine. This generous loft found on PerJansson and located in Stockholm, Sweden, was renovated and re-designed by architect Daniel Nyström. Its present appearance is tasteful and inspiring, which is why we decided to showcase it on Freshome. The apartment has no less than 700 square feet and is structured as follows: an open plan living room with dining and kitchen area, a transparent bedroom, a large hallway, dressing room and two bathrooms. The layout approach is daring, as the architect decided to go for an open, connected space, welcoming socializing. However, the living, kitchen and bedroom areas are cleverly delimited through the use of colors, textures and glass accordingly. Floor to ceiling windows ensure a large degree of natural light inside the loft. Do you appreciate the layout of the apartment, or would you go for something more private?

| Sustainable Home in France Made Showcasing a Smart Layout: Maison P+C Posted: 05 Dec 2011 12:36 AM PST
Maison P+C was designed by Atelier Alassoeur Architecture and is a 326 square-foot residence located in Indre, France. According to the architects, the project is located in the middle of a common suburban neighborhood. The objective was to build a sustainable residence, without comprimise in appearance. Building branches on the ground and multiple modules fit and capture the different lights of day. These volumes also create outdoor spaces suitable for differentiated seasons. The residence is fully open in all directions. The maconery base supports a wood box covered with red cedar. This volume is cantilevered, in order to provide terrace space, shade and an original look. All the terraces will be adorned with various green decorations. The interiors reveal the inhabitants’ attraction to clean, contemporary design. A single inner space is open in all directions, connecting the branches together and giving the feel of a continuous, large home. [Photography: Brice Desrez]

| Spacious Scandinavian Crib Encouraging Socializing Posted: 04 Dec 2011 07:50 AM PST
For those of you who enjoy an apartment with a feeling for the original, here is a tasteful and completely renovated Scandinavian crib which occupies an entire floor of a turn of the century building in Gothenburg, Sweden. Seen on Alvhem, the apartment features a ceiling height of about 3.3 meters, finely preserved stucco, high windows and bay windows. But the traditional elements are pleasantly complemented by contemporary interior design details. Composed of three rooms plus kitchen, the loft has a living area of 147 square meters, exuding a feeling of space. The large kitchen offers wonderful opportunities for gathering friends and acquaintances over, or for throwing an intimate party. The bedrooms have good storage facilities and one of them has access to a lovely terrace. The living room is the core of the house and has no less than 35 square meters. With plenty of natural light, high ceilings and charming decorations, this particular part of the apartment gets a subtle “royal” touch.
