| Modern Home Overlooking the Arabian Sea Coast: The Cliff House Posted: 30 Nov 2011 06:30 AM PST
The Cliff House is a contemporary residence designed by Khosla Associates and located in Chowara, a fishing village in Kerala, India. Overlooking the Arabian Sea coast, the modern crib rests at the edge of a cliff. Its unusual geometry is defined by an asymmetrical sloping roof which was integrated within a coconut plantation. The interior design is highly modern and, according to the architects, it is structured as follows: “On entering the house, the open plan voluminous foyer not only separates the private and public spaces but also extends all the way from the front entrance to the rear deck, where you can wade straight into the 420 sqm. infinity pool. The double height foyer separates the two wings and separates public and private spaces. Guest bedrooms and shaded decks lie to either side of the outdoor pool whose prominent position and expanse compensate for the missing beach access. Additional guest rooms and master bedroom connect to each other on the upper level via a walkway and terrace”. The residence covers an area of 1397 square meters, and each part of the property takes full advantage of its privileged surrounding landscape.

Welcome to a sophisticated contemporary penthouse with two roof terraces and an unforgettable interior design. Found on Skeppsholmen, the loft spreads over an area of more than 200 square meters and is located in Stockholm, Sweden. The heart of the apartment is a large living room, which hosts an inviting dining area, corner sofas and a beautiful fireplace. Natural materials are a recurring theme in this unique penthouse and are reflected by the polished pine floors that go hand in hand with the black painted ceiling beams. A piano is located next to one of the windows and we can only imagine how welcoming the atmosphere becomes, once someone starts playing. White walls contrast the colorful decorating elements of the interior and give an overall feeling of freshness. The penthouse has no less than three bedrooms, all ensuring a large degree of comfort. | Airplane Installation in Tate Britain Modern Art Museum by Fiona Banner Posted: 30 Nov 2011 01:36 AM PST
It is not everyday you walk into a building and see an enormous plane crashing into the floor. English artist Fiona Banner thought of adding a unique touch to the galleries of Britain Tate Modern Art Museum and created an installation that dazzles the mind. The official name of the project is Harriet and Jaguar, two plane models that were used in putting the installation together. According to Technabob, the two models were bought by Fiona for an undisclosed sum and were further modified in order to be exhibited in Tate Britain. The Sepecat Jaguar XZ118 was reconditioned and polished, so that viewers can see their reflection. It is positioned on the floor, reminding one of a wounded bird. The Harrier (first photos of the the post) was placed vertically, ensuring a strong visual effect. What is your stand on modern art installations?

| Family Home and Architecture Office in New Zealand: The Lakes House Posted: 30 Nov 2011 12:34 AM PST
Studio Creative Space Architectural Design envisioned and implemented an imposing contemporary project located in the Lakes, a subdivision of Tauranga in New Zaland. The Lakes House was especially designed to serve the living needs of a family with three children; the building also accommodates an architecture office. Here is more information from the lead architect: “The brief demanded that the home showcased our unique style of design and stimulated other home owners into stepping outside the usual combinations of methods and materials we commonly see. Great design creates great value and when investing in a new home it seems only natural to create something interesting that reflects all aspects of personality and lifestyle. I really cannot tell you enough about the fundamental level of success this home possesses. I believe the key to this level of success was spending the time to define a detailed brief that satisfied and maximized our hopes and dreams.” [Photos by Creative Space Architectural Design]

| Creative and Practical: Corner Shelf by Martina Carpelan Posted: 29 Nov 2011 07:52 AM PST
Designer Martina Carpelan (the official website is currently down right now, but check back soon) came up with an idea that is both creative and functional. This simple and elegant storage unit we found on bookofjoe can be positioned anywhere in the house, where two walls intersect. Made entirely out of wood, it goes well in a traditional decor, but in a contemporary one as well. Moreover, it can be of great help in various interiors, from the kitchen to the living room. Here is a small description from the designer: “Kulma, corner in Finnish, is a shelf to be hung either in a positive or a negative corner of a room. The idea is to utilize and highlight both the space within the shelf and the corner surrounding the shelf.” We salute the simplicity and versatility of this design and would like to know if you find it as practical as we do.
