| Californian Seaside Escape Overlooking The Ocean Posted: 25 Nov 2011 04:18 AM PST
Resting on half an acre of hillside property, this Seaside Escape we present today displays a contemporary architecture built to help a small group of people relax. Suited for maximum two couples or a small family, the Seaside Escape features great amenities. The wood cladding looks old and beautifully integrated with the surrounding colors, but the angular roofs and geometric windows reflecting the surroundings keep the establishment modern and sophisticated. The interiors, although warm and inviting, are somehow overwhelmed by surrounding views. Queen bedrooms await guests with comfortable interiors and glimpses of the ocean.
An ocean-side deck just outside the two bedrooms features a hot tub, capturing the best of Bodega Bay, California. If you want to replace the hot tub or the jacuzzi in the master bathroom with the real thing, head down to Portuguese Beach nearby. A lovely bench on the terrace overlooking the ocean constructs memories of distant rocks rising out of the water. Inside, natural wood on a grey background make up the main color palette, allowing nooks and furniture create a relaxing atmosphere. A gourmet kitchen with sparkling stainless steel appliances and an adjacent dining space are slightly delimited by a half wall continuing into an amazing window seat. Dark blinds offer guests the possibility of choosing between a shaded or a sun-flooded interior. Stained concrete floors with radiant heat ensure the comfort, while the fireplace in the living room gathers guest around a cozy fire and good conversation.

| Undulating Sarpi Border Checkpoint in Georgia Posted: 25 Nov 2011 03:15 AM PST
The fascinating uniqueness of the Sarpi Border Checkpoint meets the undulating coast of the Black Sea in the small village of Sarpi, Georgia. Located on the border between Turkey and Georgia, the village is a major business travel checkpoint and this required a contemporary iconic checkpoint building that would unite people and ideas in a unique customs headquarters. The construction shelters a cafeteria, staff rooms and a conference room on the two-story building on the ground, while the tower’s multiple floors allow it to be used as a viewing platform overlooking the coastline and the calming stretches of water of the Black Sea. Its undulating design was conceived by Berlin-based J. Mayer H. Architects and completed in November 2011. The client – Georgia’s Ministry of Finance – needed the construction to welcome visitors in a way that would visually describe the country’s “progressive upsurge“, as the architects put it. How many of you would like to visit this creative tower found on Architizer?

| Minimalist Coffee Table Showcasing an Original Geometry: Right Angles Posted: 25 Nov 2011 02:09 AM PST
We recently received a minimalist coffee table idea from Jason Phillips Design, entitled Right Angles. Here is the information we were sent in the press release: “In geometry, a right angle is an angle formed by two straight lines that intersect at exactly 90 degrees. As a rotation, a right angle corresponds to a quarter turn, as in a quarter of a full circle. I love exploring dimension, and what comes across as a simple table is actual a painstakingly balanced series of abrupt changes in direction. My intention was to go against one’s natural desire to create a standard path metal bars would move to create a table. The asymmetry works because the angles are so exact. As I worked and reworked the lines, I realized there was opportunity to play with functional glass shelves at different heights. Right Angles is a cocktail table and it measures 48x34x17″h. Constructed from cold-pressed steel and finished in matte black. Other finishes can be custom ordered.” Minimalist and practical, the table is a lovely addition to any modern interior, provided it is inhabited by someone who likes to dust often.

| Home of an Artist: Laurie Frick Residence in Texas Posted: 25 Nov 2011 12:56 AM PST
House of artist Laurie Frick was recently completed by a firm in Austin, Texas, USA, entitled KRDB, and occupies a living area of 1600 square feet. The one-bedroom, two-bathroom house with an office and a 700 square-feet studio sits in an infill lot in Barton Heights and features intriguing design details. Here is more from the architects: “Based on programmatic adjacencies the design is comprised of a series of 16' structural steel bays wrapped with a metal-clad SIP cowl. Within the cowl, the home is programmatically volumized with tiger-wood and glazing while the studio is defined by integral color stucco. The main entry is activated with a subtle push into a generous hallway that doubles as gallery for the client's art collection. Ambient light in the studio and living room is provided by a series of large north facing monitors while the more private master suite is volumized in maple mill-work“. There are plenty of photos below to look through and get plenty of ideas. Enjoy!

| Color, Simplicity and Function in a Small Scandinavian Crib Posted: 24 Nov 2011 10:19 AM PST
We are delighted to give you a virtual tour of this spacious Scandinavian apartment we found on Alvhem, which impresses due to a clever layout and charming decorations. Spread over a relatively small surface (of 51 square meters), the crib inspires joy and gives away a feeling of space. Right next to the entrance door, you will find the core of the house. The light and cathedral ceilings give this room a peaceful air and contribute to a beautiful zone for socializing and relaxation. The living room fits both the bed, sofa, reading area and clothes storage. Walls and ceilings are plastered and freshly painted in a broken white tone, while gently contrasted by the floors. To the left of the hall there is a large kitchen, with room for both dining and working. A high window with a broad niche faces the courtyard. Enjoy the lovely color contrasts this apartment has to offer and don’t forget to give us a feedback with your impressions.
