| Bisazza Bagno Collection by Marcel Wanders Posted: 23 Nov 2011 07:40 AM PST
Bisazza has recently expanded its core business of mosaic tiles by launching a new bathroom division of the brand. Bisazza Bagno will focus on quality and variety as the main commercial strategy for the new brand and has already enlisted the help of some of the design scene's most celebrated designers to create its first few collections.
Showcased for the first time earlier this year at Cersaie, the international exhibition of ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings held in Bologna, Italy, the Wanders Collection is designed by none other than Marcel Wanders. The collection features a series of consoles and mirrors in black or white lacquered resin with smoked glass top, clearly inspired by Baroque furniture, in clear contrast with the “pop” design of white ceramic sinks and the imposing white fibreglass bathtub which reinterprets the classic icon of the bar of soap, soft and rounded.
Marcel Wanders has this to say about his collection: “The collection derives its original concept from a fantasy of mine, taking a bath immersed in soap: the apotheosis of clean! I kept this idea in me for a long time, until Bisazza helped me to express it. The collection has then grown and diversified as far as to include three different lines, each with its own well-defined aesthetics, from antique to construction architecture. The idea of presenting different periods in a single collection comes from one of my beliefs: people have two opposing forces within them, one towards an eternal dimension where things last over time, the other towards change. In my design I oscillate and move between these two poles, the old and the new, reassurance and innovation. I believe it is an answer to a very human feeling. The Wanders Collection reflects precisely this duality.”
I don’t know about you guys but I love the contrasting styles that Marcel Wanders has incorporated into this collection. Talk about a statement in the bathroom!! |
| Wood Walls Inspiration: 30 Walls of Wood for Modern Homes Posted: 23 Nov 2011 03:21 AM PST
Walls of wood are one of the ways of resolving the problem with focal walls. Even in the bathroom, when relaxing in the tub, why not rest your eyes on something precious and rich like wood? Focal walls in bathrooms are an interesting idea as long as the walls covered in wood slats or panels enhance the space and bring out the best in the bathroom’s design. Flawless modern design using walls of wood can accentuate the warm atmosphere of a house, be it minimalist, traditional or eclectic. Wooden walls can lead to debates about deforestation and reforestation. Walls of natural wood connect the interiors to the peace-giving outdoors by reminding you to surround yourself with simple, natural materials.
If you can’t decide which portion of your home needs a makeover, look at the detailed walls of wood in the photos below and you will surely find at least 5 favorite looks – my top favorite is the first photo, where curved glass collides with walls of wood and guides natural light inside. Walls of wood can add spiritual simplicity to that space behind the bed, the one we see every night right before we go to sleep. Wouldn’t you like to see a natural colored wall of wood as a comforting, warm image before you rest? Or would you rather spend some vacations enjoying the forests?

Base Camp Chewton Residence is a project developed by Melbourne-based studio Insite Design and located in central Victoria, Australia. The compact, multi-functional home sits on a landscape defined by rolling hills, eucalyptus forests and rocky outcrops Its elongated shape is said to maximize solar control and is just one clever element in a series of environmental ideas that were applied for this residence. According to the architects,”the building is located in a high level bush fire zone; materials required low combustibility, opening windows stainless steel mesh screens, all doors & openings were appropriately smoke-sealed, and the underside of the building is mesh screened to reduce risk of ember attack. The interior incorporates large wide views of nature, as well as close up landscape porthole punctuations in solid walls. These frames provide particular views of the landscape in time, allowing occupants to consciously experience the bush at different moments of day, season or weather condition. It is a space to hear the rain on roof, birds in trees, and to see stars at night”. Providing a perfect retreat for meditation, the residence can be booked all year long, with prices starting from $195 to $250 Australian dollars per night.

| Tucked Roofline Sheltering An Outdoor Living/Dining Posted: 22 Nov 2011 10:26 AM PST
Behind the construction of the Hickey Residence stood the talented team of Glen Irani Architects. Part of a larger project developed by the architects, this residence strives to introduce a seamless connection between the front and rear gardens. This was obtained by designing a collection of rooms half hovering above the outdoor living area. This gives the impression of a larger garden space and hold the power to gather family and friends around the dinner table for unforgettable social encounters. Located in Venice, California, the Hickey Residence displays an interesting line, with opposing sides tucked back into the volumetric architecture. Overhangs and the curves of the roof help increase the amount of indirect natural light reaching the interiors. A paved driveway in the front leads to the metal garage door, integrated in the overall design. The 4,000 square foot residence rests the tired, but happy inhabitants and their guests in 4 bedrooms. The climate allows this architectural solution to be comfortable and feel naturally close to the environment. Who here thinks the outdoor living area was a great idea?

| Rechargeable Lights For a Perfect Interior Mood: Drop Light Posted: 22 Nov 2011 07:32 AM PST
Drop Light is a new concept developed by the people at DOOlight, who like to mix creativity with function for spectacular results. The idea we are about to present today derived from the need of creating a perfect interior mood. Drop Light consists of rechargeable lighting units called “drops”, which are cordless and heartless. These two features come in very handy, as the user can place the lights anywhere and always be prepared in case of a blackout. The lamps can be used individually, or placed together on a support for stronger lighting. How does it work? Simply touch the edge of the hanger for turning the light on or off, or hold it for a second in order to increase or decrease its intensity. When the lighting is perfect, then you can move on to the next “drop”. Have a look at the photos below to see the project integrated in various interiors and tell us if you find it as pretty as we do.
