Fascinating Design Combining Gothic Inspiration and Modern Techniques Posted: 21 Nov 2011 06:11 AM PST Created by Japanese designer Nobu Miake of Design Soil, the Cathedral Side Table stands for the idea of recognizing the value of modern design in the well-known Gothic lines. Made from molded plywood elements that were joined together by two types of metal fittings, the side table design impresses through the inspiring interconnection of the beech wood and the supporting glass and metal parts. The side table’s strength lies in the correlation between its elements: “Although the parts themselves have only limited strength, once they are assembled into a complete structure, all the force applying onto the structure will be redirected towards the center, and hence gives it stability and strength.” Inspired by Gothic architecture, the low Cathedral Side table brings a bit of history into a contemporary home, giving you the opportunity to express your love for old, impressive architecture and modern design lines. Can you imagine yourself enjoying it in your home? |
Contemporary Residence Contrasting The Caribbean Blue: Bonaire House Posted: 21 Nov 2011 05:04 AM PST Bonaire House was designed by Silberstein Architecture and is located in Bonaire, a Caribbean island east of Central America and north of Venezuela. The residence stands out due to its imposing contemporary architecture and its white exterior pleasantly contrasts the Caribbean blue. Access towards the main entrance is provided by a staircase, which inhabitants can step on, while “chaperoned” by the lovely pool to the right. A large open plan living room naturally extended with the terrace is up next. The fact that one can get from a boat on the deck and straight inside the home is a bit unusual. Perhaps a passage way between the living room and entrance would have been a better approach, don’t you agree? The interiors are impressive in size, and feature minimalist, tasteful furniture arrangements. Large windows provide extensive water views, making some of the rooms truly welcoming. And did you happen to notice the small yacht? |

Four-Story High House R by Architect Roger Christ Posted: 21 Nov 2011 02:43 AM PST Spreading over 455 square meters, House R‘s floor plan was comprised between the walls of its four-story height structure. Designed by German architect Roger Christ and located in Karlsruhe, Germany, the interiors of this beautiful modern home can be reached either via the north main entrance or via the carport underneath. A forecourt and a ramp in the front allow easy access into the residence, where family and guests can enjoy a comfortable lifestyle in the presence of contemporary interior design. On the inside, there is also the possibility of moving through the spaces using either the staircase or the elevator. Each floor has its own charm and well-planned collection of spaces. Guest rooms and bathrooms, alongside an interior pool rest on the basement floor, where a light shaft ensures enough natural light. The ground floor shelters the entrance, a bright double-height living room with integrated kitchen and dining area for socializing and entertaining, the home office and a bathroom. The first floor is occupied by a more private living area where the family can gather to share their news and stories, a gallery and two children's bedrooms with dressing rooms and bathrooms. The attic floor, complete with a roof terrace on three sides, comforts the parents with a seamless space consisting of a bed, washbasin, bath tub, bathroom-box and dressing area, all creating a fabulous master bedroom. Impossible Triangle Vase: 90° by Cuatro Cuatros Posted: 21 Nov 2011 01:15 AM PST If you were looking for the perfect vase to match your favorite plant, we found a possible winner. 90° is a design we discovered on Cuatro Cuatros that displays an intriguing geometry. According to the designers, the product is based on a drawing of an impossible triangle, converted into a geometrical shape with volume. Depending on the point of view, both ends coincide and make it look like a closed figure. The interposition, orientation and perspective create a contradiction of the space that makes us perceive something that is not. This way, the vase becomes more than just a functional object, turning into a decorative piece that plays with perceptions. You can place it anywhere inside your home, as its clean, simple shape can pleasantly interfere with both a modern and traditional decor. Just put some water inside the crazy triangle vase and watch how the flower blooms in the company of an awesome optical illusion.
