drawers as furniture 3 Emotion of Traveling In Your Home All Year Long: Suitcase Drawers by Fabio Vinella

We recently received a delightful furniture set from designer Fabio Vinella, meant to enrich the living space of the owner by constantly reminding him/her of the pleasures of traveling: "A travel give you the possibility to breath a unique atmosphere. You know that you will live a new emotion just taking your suitcase in your cabinet. The designer Fabio Vinella knows  this emotion well, so he decided to design Travel Drawers: a modular combinations of wooden drawers inspired by the old suitcase. Elegant and attractive details give personality to each drawer: leather handle, studs and a warm red coloration inside of the drawers“. The Travel Drawers come in two versions ( tobacco color or warm gray) and three sizes. They can be placed one above the other or spread randomly around the house. Either way, they present an appealing look, enhancing the overall design of the interiors they are placed in. Find them holiday-inspiring?

Striking Residence in an Eclectic Streetscape: South Yarra House

Yarra House 1 Striking Residence in an Eclectic Streetscape: South Yarra House

South Yarra house was designed by LSA Architects and is an imposing contemporary home located in Melbourne, Australia. In a neighborhood that is dense in various architecture styles, the architects wanted a residence that stands out. Applying color and focusing on glazing- these were the main elements used to engage the viewer. According to the architects’ description, “an orange box that is the first floor can be observed from as far away as the end of the street. Upon entering the house, the white ceiling abruptly gives way to the overhead insertion of this form, reminding the viewer of their connection with the coloured volume. Arched glazing either side of the dining area physically separates interior from exterior, yet enables views of the orange-clad ceiling wrapping to form the external walls of the first floor, increasing connection to the exterior and the building as a whole“. Energy consumption is reduced with the help of electricity-generating solar panels, double-glazed windows and fully insulated walls. Do you find this home design appealing or too flashy?

Unique Quinta Da Baroness House by Studio Arthur Casas

Quinta Da Baroness Unique Quinta Da Baroness House by Studio Arthur Casas

Quinta Da Baroness acts as the second home of a family and is located in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Its unique architecture was designed by Studio Arthur Casas, constructed with recycled bricks and Cumaru wood as main materials, giving a natural finish to the different volumes that comprise it. A sloped terrain helped the architects hide the contemporary architecture from the street view, allowing only a small part of the volumes to be seen by passers-by. The true beauty of this modern residence can be seen from its backside, where the terrace with pool is slightly shadowed by a cantilevering volume and large overhangs. A tall and slim volume in the middle connects the other two and draws natural light in through huge windows. Overlooking a golf course and green hills, the residence can be fully open to the outside in the living area, seamlessly connecting the comfortable interior to the fresh and liberating  exterior.

the CUBE 11 Versatile and Playful Seating Unit: CUBE by Melted Architecture [Video]

Melted CUBE is an original seating unit designed by Björn Verch of Melted Architecture. According to the press release we were sent, organic shapes and trend-setting curves characterize this design, making it flexible, convertible and yet complex. The CUBE can be upholstered with various clothes and materials and was especially developed to offer visitors and waiting guests of fairs, events, clubs, shops, beaches and hotels a space to relax. The architectural but lightweight structure (foam) allows individual and quick changes while offering general logistic advantages. The insets of the CUBE can be used as a seating surface, a temporary storage or as a pedestal. The three modules are linked together with high quality velcro tape. In single modus cuffs can be sticked on the velcro tape. Depending on the designated application, the CUBE can be tailored for indoor and outdoor use respectively. We know its design is as serious and practical as it gets, but don’t you just feel the urge to use it as a playground?

You might already know the location from other posts about the extraordinary residences of exclusive Blue Jay Way in California, like the Blue Jay Way Residence or the 1654 Blue Jay Way house. A sun-flooded kitchen displays natural grey stone and white washed oak and cabinets, warm-grey recycled content quartz counters and efficient appliances. Natural air flow is encouraged throughout the house. Exotic wood finishes adorn the interiors and the bar, closets, vanities and cabinets are all made from eco friendly materials. Special features are the indoor-outdoor pool and jacuzzi on the panoramic side of the residence, 13 feet high windows  and a 360 degree roof deck. “The floor to ceiling windows and open floor plan in the Blue Jay home allow natural daylight and airflow virtually everywhere in the residence. In addition to being beautiful the limestone 4×4 slab flooring throughout the interior and exterior of the residence acts as a heat sink, absorbing solar energy during the day and releasing it in our cold desert nights. The master bath and master patio have radiant heating, which is highly effective and is the most luxurious way to heat a body.” Do you love it as much as we do?

Modern Residence in Delaware Built Around a Central Garden: Lujan House

Lujan Residence 8 Modern Residence in Delaware Built Around a Central Garden: Lujan House

Lujan House comes from architect Robert M. Gurney and is located in Ocean View, Delaware, USA. The residence is composed of two volumes which vary in height, intersecting to form a passageway, allowing the inhabitants to walk from one part of the house to another. According to the architects, the eastern volume displays sixteen foot high ceilings and contains the public living spaces: “Continuous clerestory windows assist in providing an abundance of natural light into the space, allowing views to the treetops and sky while minimizing the close proximity of the adjacent houses. A twenty foot wide glass wall slides into a pocket, enhancing the relationship to the outdoors, and provides a sense of living in a garden. The two story western volume is comprised of bedrooms and a small second floor living space. A one story glass link connects the volumes and visually opens to the central garden”. The residence occupies a surface of 2400 square feet and was built using “modest” materials such as concrete, oak and plastic laminate. However, the interior design is far from being humble. Have a look!

Moses Bridge Cutting Through Fort de Roovere’s Moat [Video]

Moses Bridge Moses Bridge Cutting Through Fort de Rooveres Moat [Video]

This modern pedestrian bridge has the capacity of turning miracles into technological possibilities – the Moses Bridge (or Loopgraafbrug in the native language). This bridge looks more like a trench than the usual conception of a bridge, but it gets you across no matter how you call it. Located in the Netherlands, the fascinating bridge parts the waters surrounding a 17th century Dutch fort, allowing visitors to experience a whole new perspective of the shallow moat – too deep to march across and too shallow to boat across – that surrounds Fort de Roovere. Designed by RO and AD Architecture company, the bridge is made from sustainable FSC and PEFC certified Accoya wood. The bridge was treated with a nontoxic coating that protects it from fungal decay, extending its durability. Scroll down to see a video showing the interesting construction and visit Fort de Roovere to enjoy this unique experience.  Its designers says that “the bridge enhances the accessibility of the restored fort and  landscape and contributes in unique ways to the social task of strengthening the recreational side of nature. It fulfills a natural, educational function.”
