| Inspiring Interior Design and Landscape: Whiting Way Residence Posted: 04 Nov 2011 05:47 AM PDT
The interesting contemporary Whiting Way Residence located in the Hutchinson Hills neighborhood of Denver, Colorado, displays a new face after the renovations underwent on this 1970 home. A refreshing 2,385 square foot open floor plan spreads over three levels including three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Light filled interiors were obtained through the use of large windows and glass doors and many of the pure white walls were used to display art. Crisp white walls are complemented by the hardwood floors and detailed finishes. As described by the realtor, the garden and surroundings of this beautiful residence are masterpieces: “The landscape can take on the Botanic Gardens! Seriously! The maturity, placement and drama of the ornamental grasses, trees and perennials are inspiring. The hardscape complements and embraces the setting organically.” Details like the Philippe Starck shower head in the master bedroom, the exposed beams on the ground floor or the built-in-wardrobe in the master bedroom make the home not only comfortable, but also high-end. You can buy this residence from Mile Hi Modern for $390,000.

| Architecturally Striking Concrete Home with Views of the Swiss Alps Posted: 04 Nov 2011 02:37 AM PDT
High above Lake Lucerne, with breathtaking views of the water and the Alps in Switzerland, lies this massive contemporary home with an architecture that is truly dazzling. Designed by Ungertreina, a company that considers architecture “an obligation in the cultural, social and economic sense“, the project, called Villa Am See, has a sculptural and dynamic appearance and consists of three residential volumes, each with its own layout. Walls made of thick glass, each focus on a different section of the magnificent panorama. A glass portal next to the massive steel garage door leads into a corridor which further directs towards the three stacked living concrete “boxes”. The corridor is in fact a ramp to the elevator. The exposed concrete walls and the lighting create an unreal atmosphere and enhance the effect of a mountain tunnel. The interior design varies, from one box to another. The actual living space is highly modern, featuring stylish and minimalist details. The garage is particularly interesting to observe, as it hosts the owner’s Porsche collection, mimicking a “James Bond atmosphere”. [ Photo credits: Francesca Giovanell]

| Original Architecture Approach: Blok K by NL Architects Posted: 03 Nov 2011 09:16 AM PDT
Dutch NL Architects recently completed “Blok K”, a building that is included in a larger project of 500 dwellings and a park, by Frits van Dongen of de Architecten cie. The triangular site for this massive project is located in the recently redeveloped harbor area in the East of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Blok K is one of the three square block on the site, and has 2,5 floors. Its twisted shape is highly original and at the same time, functional: “To create space within the masterplan this volume is deformed and redistributed, pushed away as much as possible from the adjacent volumes. within the orthogonal grid a diagonal vista opens up. The design tool deployed for this operation is the slight rotation of the aisle, orienting it onto two open spaces between the blocks, instead of ‘two’ blind walls and as such providing a public shortcut“- stated the architects. The curved roof of the building allows natural light inside and becomes a place of relaxation for the inhabitants.

Have you ever seen such a various, yet tasteful display of colors? Welcome to an apartment that was designed in a way that bends the common design rules. This lovely modern penthouse found on Skeppsholmen has a total surface of 125 square meters and features a charming fireplace and a generous terrace to the south, which offers stunning views of Stockholm and its rooftops. The terrace is a natural extension of the living room, a generous interior with plenty of inspiring details. It is here that the wooden beams and inclined walls define an atmosphere that is friendly and cozy. A colorful rug on the floor cheers up the room and adds personality. This entire dining area is a feast for the aesthetic eye. But this apartment comes with another great incentive: an old tower room that was recently rehabilitated. Light was an important factor when designing this apartment; this way, all the beautiful decorations are properly highlighted.
