| 40 Architects’ Business Cards for Delivering Your Message the Creative Way Posted: 27 Oct 2011 05:11 AM PDT
Dear architects, if you ever felt like you needed a head start with a client or are simply on the lookout for a creative way to get to get your message across, today’s post is for you. After some serious research, we gathered a series of architects’ business cards that defy patterns and stand out in any wallet. As you can see in the photos below, most of them feature architecture-related imprints, others even come with an integrated small 3D house. Black, white, gray and blue are the colors preferred by architects when choosing a business card, but who says one has to be this sober? Sometimes bold colors may induce the idea of bold projects and this could eventually attract daring clients and briefs. However, it is very important that a card mirrors the personality of the company/architect. We invite you to have a look at the examples below for inspiration and complete the list if you have any other interesting examples of architects business card.

| Inspired By A Century-Old Game: Sand Vase Posted: 27 Oct 2011 04:11 AM PDT
Decorative items should match the interiors and with this simple idea in mind, Japanese designer Yukihiro Kaneuchi created an inspiring set of decorative items for modern homes. These words from the designer can best describe the collection: “Taking inspiration from the game ‘Bou-Taoshi’, I’ve created a series of vases made of sand and resin. The game is simple. First, players make a heap of sand and place a pole in the centre. Then each player takes turns removing sand, the one who causes the pole to fall loses. With its primitive element of creation and destruction, this game has been played for centuries. Here, the pole is transformed to a glass tube – time stopped with resin. The shape nears collapse, bringing a tension and delicate beauty to the flower.” The Sand Vase found on Esprit Desing Blog can elegantly display flowers in a sequence of transparent tubes encased by the sand/resin composite. Look no further, because this impressive simplicity can surprise you with its dominating effect – a play of natural colors captured in a unique vase. Use one vase or the whole range – small, medium or large sizes – to create a contemporary display. Where would you find the perfect place for the Sand Vase Collection?

| England Lake House Maximizing Its Privileged Location Posted: 27 Oct 2011 03:05 AM PDT
We ran across this delightful modern home in Gloucestershire, a county in South West England. The project impresses due to its dreamy surrounding landscape and original design. The architecture of The Lake House maximizes its privileged location, blurring the indoor-outdoor boundaries. With a lovely wooden facade, the house is visually integrated in its environment and inspires an inviting feel. The residence is structured on two levels, each of them featuring floor to ceiling windows. This allows a large amount of natural light inside, and insures a good ventilation throughout. Once inside, you are greeted by an open plan living room, which mixes modern furniture elements with traditional decorating ideas. The eclectic style is taken further, to the rest of the rooms of the house, with a few exceptions. The kitchen for example displays a simple modern design which also happens to be quite practical. Enjoy the photo and tell us if you find this architecture approach suited for a lake house.

| Stool, Side Table or Magazine Rack – Christian Lessing’s Collecteur Posted: 27 Oct 2011 02:03 AM PDT
The need for more space does not necessarily require a small residence. Managing to blend different functions in the same piece of furniture shows how versatility has become an important feature for modern furniture items. Christian Lessing‘s Collecteur is one of those objects that encompasses both a piece of furniture and a storage system, making the surroundings more spacious by implementing a double function. Part filing system, part stool, this industrial-looking piece of furniture/storage can elegantly display magazines while offering you or your guests a comfortable surface to rest or sit on while putting on shoes.
The fun part about this stool is that is grows in height depending on the amount of magazines stacked underneath the seating unit. This modern solution for storing newspapers or magazines can do even more for you – place a tray on top and you have a modern side table prepared to become a stool if needed. Two sliding pieces of metal make this possible – they can rise between 28 cm and 52 cm. The white or grey painted steel with removable cushion will help you save space and adorn your home at the same time. The German designer based in Dusseldorf has been working on many interesting pieces, but this versatile furniture/storage item caught our attention.

| Dramatic New Headquarters for Uniopt Pachleitner Group: The Black Panter Posted: 27 Oct 2011 12:58 AM PDT
Uniopt Pachleitner Group is an eye-wear and jewelery company. Their new headquarters in Graz, Austria was designed by GS Architects and has a futuristic appearance. Nicknamed “The Black Panter“, the new dramatic building was conceived taking into consideration the designs of the company, as well as its mission and philosophy. Here is more from the architects: “To achieve the sculpture-like aesthetic with dynamic sharp edges and imposing angles, the practice opted for a ventilated rain screen cladding system from Sto. This mechanical system allowed for the highly ambitious design, as well as a pure, black finish. From the start, GS Architects wanted a protective glass system to characterize the nature and purpose of their client. The StoVerotec Glass system provided all the functional and aesthetic design elements they required. The interior of the building is equally striking with sculptural elements throughout. The client demanded a tranquil, beautiful space to inspire creativity“. Do you appreciate the design of this modern building, or do you consider it too flashy?

| Doctor Who TARDIS Teapot by Rebekka Ferbrache Posted: 26 Oct 2011 10:20 AM PDT
Rebekka Guenther Ferbrache, also referred to as Jadeflower (name of her blog), created an unusual looking teapot shaped like a police public call box. According to the designer, “this fully-functioning stoneware teapot is made entirely from scratch – no molds or pre-made components are used. The handle and spout are added after the main body of the teapot is built. The handle is solid and substantial.” TARDIS teapot takes after the famous time machine and spacecraft from the British science fiction television “Doctor Who”. But you don’t necessarily have to be a fan of sci fi to enjoy this cute ceramic design. Perfect for any kitchen with a personality, the product adds color and spices up relaxing tea moments between friends. We find it playfully-creative and are looking forward to seeing your reactions as well. The teapot can be purchased online at Etsy, for $98.

| Welcoming Modern Home in The Arizona Desert: The Brown Residence Posted: 26 Oct 2011 08:28 AM PDT
The Brown Residence was designed by Lake|Flato Architects and is located in Scottsdale, Arizona, United States. The site characteristics in this case were truly challenging, but the architects managed to plan a home that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. According to the project developers, the house maximizes the desert views, allowing its inhabitants to fully enjoy their unique natural environment: “The careful design makes this possible as views to neighboring houses are edited out focused instead on distant mountains. While the residence presents an unassuming, modest scale to the street, it steps down with the slope of the site allowing the spaces inside to become quite generous. Oversize pivot doors and large expanses of glass allow abundant light and air into these spaces while broad overhangs and shading devices protect them from the harsh desert sun“. A simple look at the interiors of this residence (found on Homedit), and one could assume it is a holiday retreat, due to its harmonious design and welcoming atmosphere.
