| Kardashian Sisters About to Launch a Home Products Collection Posted: 26 Oct 2011 07:04 AM PDT
The popular Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe Kardashian already have a multimillion-dollar fashion empire, dealing with clothes, handbags, shoes, jewelry and sunglasses. Recently, we found out they wish to embark on another quest, which is creating various home products. “Kardashian Kollection Home” is the name to be used for the new line of objects, according to TMZ. The collection will include everything from hand towels, bedding, flatware, photo frames, to window blinds, and beer steins. Basically, everything in your home could be signed “Kardashian” and bare the smiling faces of the three sisters. No news yet on when the girls will officially launch Kardashian Kollection Home or when they will start selling the products (the hint comes from filed documents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office), but they will probably have no trouble finding new customers, or retaining their existing target. Would you be interested in buying their products? |
| Designed Around An Old Japanese Maple: Karlusic Residence Posted: 26 Oct 2011 06:43 AM PDT
Capturing the essence of privacy and comfort, the Karlusic Residence was built around a 30 year old Japanese Maple in the front yard. This beautiful tree guided the architecture from many points of view – the front facade was finished in a light warm grey lime wash that accentuated the shape and color of the tree, the two slotted windows were designed to capture views of the Maple and even the whole spine of the structure is oriented according to the Japanese Maple’s position.
The front yard display a beautiful play of contrasts – the cladded volume, the Maple tree and a series of landscaped areas “such as the textured water wall along the steps towards the front entry, a shallow reflective pond with Gold fish and turtles, segmented raised platforms with each platform holding a different form of plant-life, and with the middle platform holding sand with a 3mx.6m old solid wood pier beam that was recycled from the docklands piers.” The hidden garage door in the back has a natural zinc finish, matching the rest of the natural stone facade. An internal courtyard with a lap pool is flanked by the large windows of the ground floor on one side and a line of bamboo on the other. Splendid interiors shelter living spaces on the ground floor and private room on the upper level. Located in Melbourne, Australia, the Karlusic Residence was designed by Hirsch Bedner Associates.

| Tiny Apartment in Sofia With Wall Graphic Details Posted: 26 Oct 2011 05:22 AM PDT
We received photos and information of an inspiring small apartment located in Sofia, Bulgaria. Here is the description we were sent: “Petya Gancheva designs this small city apartment for a young couple to enjoy their time home relaxing or with lot of friends, as often happens. In this one –bedroom home the geometric style has the emphasis to make the spaces look not too busy but providing the necessary furniture and storage spaces at the same time. We always like to think we don't have that much stuff, but we really do! The colors are in the white – grey tonality to help the rooms to look more open. To make it vivid, there comes the purple accent in some wall and ceiling parts, the kitchen furniture end the wall graphics. The tiny bedroom has the most minimal look, containing only bed, wardrobe and the U2 song Beautiful Day, represented on the custom made wallpaper. A good start for the day is having this full with energy text in front of your eyes! On the living room wall is Frank Sinatra with his New York, New York to invite the spirit of the city life in this space where busy evenings and weekends are taking part”.

| Contemporary Building Hosting Two Functionally Separate Homes in Ottawa Posted: 26 Oct 2011 04:14 AM PDT
The Front to Back Infill is a complex modern project located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and designed by studio Colizza Bruni Architecture. It consists of two homes filled with light, each designed by a different architect and blended in a three-story contemporary residence. Instead of choosing to place the homes side by side, the functionally separate living spaces were positioned front to back. Here is more from the architects:”The challenge for this project was to design two small and affordable homes for two separate owners on a narrow 25' x 80' lot slotted between existing houses. The new front to back semi allowed each owner to maintain separate ownership and split the land cost to make the project affordable. The use of economical materials and simple details were essential to developing a contextual design as well as maintaining an economical budget. The front to back infill is a unique concept for the traditional semi-detached home and an innovative way to increase density on a narrow infill lot."

| Office and Guest House in a Modern Garden Pavilion Posted: 26 Oct 2011 12:05 AM PDT
Necessary as an office space and a guest house, this modern shed-like structure was designed by BLOOT architecture. Located in a residential garden in Voorburg, the Netherlands, this timber construction was designed to age with time, visually integrating itself in the garden. The design was influenced by some existing conditions – the clients wanted to keep a brick shed in the small garden and had budget limitations. The architects constructed the contemporary garden pavilion with limitations in height and footprint because the building was to be built free of permit and they used sliding blinds to draw in the necessary light amount and to open the interior space to surrounding garden views.
Significantly updating the use of free-standing indoor spaces, the garden pavilion features a deck connecting to the brick shed that helps create a sequence of spaces within the garden, constructing an interesting play of volumes. Inside the garden pavilion, there was enough space for the kitchen, the bathroom and an office space/guest bedroom. These two spaces were visually separated by using a red background. Storage space was lines up against one wall, allowing the floor plan to remain open. This is a perfect solution for merging office and guest space. How would you like to have an inviting addition like this one?

| Seating Unit With a Light Design: PANTOIA Chair Posted: 25 Oct 2011 08:56 AM PDT
We received an interesting chair design, the first product of a series called LE PELICAN. The project is a tribute to designers Verner Panton and Harry Bertoia and their emblematic chairs. PANTOIA borrows the “S shape” from Panton and the ethereal feel given by the light grids from Harry Bartoia. The result is a beautiful minimalist chair, perfect for any contemporary environment. Like Bertoia himself put it, “If you look at these chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture. Space passes right through them.” We find this modern furniture piece elegant and visually appealing. The design can be used on its own, or complemented by colorful cushions, either way it is a lovely interior addition. The PANTOIA chair is available for purchase online here, for 299 Euros.

| Giant Sculpture as Home For Joaquin Torres, Director of A-Cero Posted: 25 Oct 2011 07:56 AM PDT
Of all the surprising A-cero home designs we’ve seen, this is probably the most elegant. Envisioned as a giant work of art, this residence belongs to Spanish architect Joaquin Torres and has a breathtaking appearance. The project is located in La Finca, a residential area near Madrid, Spain and consists of winding, overlapping volumes of concrete having various heights, with water playing a key role: “The land is surrounded by lakes and I wanted the house to be natural extension of them“, stated architect Joachin Torres. The interiors are bright, with a structured distribution on three levels. The entrance brings together the common areas, which lead to a large hall. At this level there is also the master bedroom with dressing room, bathroom, gym and indoor pool. The other rooms are located in the basement, and the third floor is occupied by a living room with study corner leading to a gallery-library. All the rooms are decorated with items designed by A-cero, alternating with classic designs, antiques and works of art. Enjoy the photos!
