| Exploring Residential Architecture From Many Vantage Points: Bilt House Posted: 10 Oct 2011 07:49 AM PDT
We would like to share with you today a special project – a fantastic modern house that was impeccably designed out of many different elements. Architectural finishes, furniture and furnishings participate in the construction of this modern and comfortable residential space. The Bilt House’s design is captured from different vantage points by the talented photographer Tim van de Velde. What seems to be a pyramid-inspired construction shelters a chic collection of spaces designed to convince the inhabitants that this is the perfect custom home for them. With carefully planned corners and a large, bright floor plan, the Bilt House we found on Living with White explores living opportunities: “This house has a distinct, autonomous and geometrical design, by which it wants to dialogue with its environment. By its form, the house distinguishes itself from the environment, but also makes a dialogue trough the open structure and by embedding itself into the soil. The pyramidal design gave the architect the chance to embody all these elements, although the first trigger of the design was of more practical nature. Building regulations told him to design a typical saddle roof. Bending the rules, this was his result. On the inside, the owner of the house made his own universe. Being an artist and a collectionneur of vintage design he meticulously gives all his objects the right place. The place is not overwhelmed, but has a nice collection of furniture, objects and exchanged pieces of art.”

| Intriguing Architecture in Australia: Tramway by Vibe Design Group Posted: 10 Oct 2011 04:26 AM PDT
We just received yet another impressive contemporary residence from Vibe Design Group. Tramway is a private home located in Melbourne Australia, occupying an area of 327 meters (plus an outdoor living space of 77 meters). Here is the official project description we were sent: “Given the client's involvement in motorsport, we were motivated to create a form with a sense of movement. On the street façade it appears that a portion of the Zinc Clad Box has shifted below. This offset in fact creates a covered entry and directs the balcony over. A battened timber system was not only used to balance the façade, it also disguises the garage door, and partially screens the windows in the primary living space from passers by.Inside the home a timber-lined wall defines the end of the splayed living area and features a fireplace and wall-mounted television, before wrapping the corner and leading to a crossroads in the floor plan layout. Integrated access doors into the cellar and powder room are disguised in the horizontally lined messmate timber feature wall.
A flexible upper storey layout accommodates the needs of the client's children, with an optional isolated 'apartment style' space for visiting guests. The irregular shaped spaces throughout create a fluidity and functionality, which could not have been achieved with a conventional rectangular format. Furthermore, it allowed the north facing entertaining space, with swimming pool and landscaped area, to be fully maximized. As viewed from the rear, the lower storey has a lightweight feel and provides all rooms an appreciation of the swimming pool and landscaped garden. The upper storey hovers above as though it were a floating sculpture. The zinc form is punched-in to give the guest bedroom a protected low-line window with direct line of sight to the swimming pool”. [Photographer: Robert Hamer]

| Sustainable Contemporary Home in USA With a Highly Appealing Look Posted: 10 Oct 2011 03:28 AM PDT
Peconic Bay Residence was designed by Bridgehampton-based studio Stelle Architects and is located in Suffolk County, New York, USA. According to the architects, "the house is sited on a bluff overlooking the bay within a grove of cedar and locust trees. Discrete volumes of varying public and private functions are organized around an axial promenade, extending to the outdoors. Single story volumes, separated by glass interstitial spaces, were utilized to lessen the overall impact of the structures while retaining lofty interiors spaces requested by the owners. Low maintenance, sustainable materials were carefully assembled. An efficient geothermal heating and cooling system along with highly energy efficient glazing and an advanced building insulation system resulted in a structure that substantially exceeded the requirements under the Energy Star rating system." The interior design of this home is very tasteful, featuring contemporary arrangements and an overall intelligent layout. Enjoy the photos!

| Modern Terrace of Wood and Glass by DOS Architects Posted: 10 Oct 2011 02:26 AM PDT
Simple transformations of a space can bring the luxurious feeling of wanting to change more and a constant thirst for new ways to improve your lifestyle by improving your surrounding space. Looking at this beautiful terrace transformation makes one want to maintain the feeling of new and exciting. Designed by London-based DOS Architects, the terrace is an extension of a 1850s Georgian house in London’s Islington neighborhood. The entire first floor of the residence was renovated and a glass terrace containing the kitchen and the dining room was added. Bringing in natural light, the terrace does not disturb the existing structure – it only enhances its natural beauty. The Duncan Terrace, as it was named, allows the inhabitants to enjoy light and fresh air surrounded by a wood and glass addition that enhances the beautiful surroundings as it was part of it.

| Sumptuous Apartment in Sweden With Fascinating Decors Posted: 10 Oct 2011 01:28 AM PDT
This lavish 1,625 square foot (151 square meters) apartment overlooking Hammarby Lake in Stockholm, Sweden, certainly has what it takes to get you impressed and inspired. Combining vintage details with state-of-the-art modern furniture pieces, the crib has a unique style. The core of this Scandinavian loft is a large living room, featuring plenty of seating units- the perfect place to have friends and family over. There may not be a fireplace to adorn this room, but the five lovely pendant lamps and vintage furniture bring so much warmth to this room, that no supplementary heat source is needed. Painted entirely in gray, this interior is definitely not what one would call “gloomy”, but a room inspiring sumptuousness and an overall appealing feel. We invite you to have a look at the photos in this post and leave your opinions regarding the colors and arrangements the designer chose for this apartment. Do you find this design approach impressive or too extravagant?

| Cutting Edge Architecture in Brazil: Cobogó House Posted: 10 Oct 2011 12:27 AM PDT
The Cobogó House was designed by Brazillian architect Marcio Kogan of StudioMK27 and displays an original exterior and layout. The residence consists of three levels. The bottom one opens towards a veranda and a small picturesque lake, through floor to ceiling glass doors. This way, the large living room is connected to the beautiful outdoor landscape. The second and third levels are visually contrasting. Rectangular bands of vertical wooden planks are used to “shield” the house from sunlight on the second floor, while this function is taken over by a white patterned volume when it comes to the third level. Come night time, this place strongly shines in the dark and its architecture can be subject to further interpretation. The interior design is highly modern and the overall feeling is that of space. Have a look at the photos and tell us if you find this home appealing or too diverse for your tastes. Photography by Nelson Kon]
