Architecturally Striking Barn Conversion in Surrey, England Posted: 09 Oct 2011 02:33 AM PDT For today we would like to introduce you to a mind-blowing conversion of a barn in Surrey, England, into a beautiful contemporary living space. The project belongs to Stedman Blower Architects and was featured on the famous TV show “Grand Designs”. The new residence displays a highly modern appearance and an original layout. The main brief challenge was that the exterior remained comparatively unchanged. It is when one goes inside, that the transformation is striking. A huge central void (of eight and a half meter height!) sets the tone for the entire design, one that is characterized by openness and space. The rooms are connected by a dramatic suspended walkway, one that is exposed to the open plan living room. Upstairs, the main bedroom overlooks a beautiful landscape and the church where the home owners were married. The budget for the building was approximately 390 000 GBP. We are mesmerized by the way this place looks and are curious to seeing your reactions regarding this stunning barn conversion.

A Home Renovation Easy to Fall For: 3602 East Apollo Drive Posted: 08 Oct 2011 05:42 AM PDT We received an interesting project from property consultant Cody Derrick, of CityHome Collective. The project description we were sent made us smile towards the end: “3602 East Apollo Drive has been through it. Aside from the kidney shaped black bottom pool added in the 70′s, the rehab on this beauty has taken place over the last 4 years. As with many property transformations; the bones put in place and the vision of the original architect weighed heavy on every decision including the final furniture placed and the last art hung.  Underneath, the pool got new guts, the electrical got re-wired, plumbing; re-done. While above ground the duplex fireplace anchoring the house was presented with a new burnt timber facade. On the list of newness; walnut and tile floors, cast concrete, stainless steel fixtures, a reconfigured master bedroom and bath, bar, open layout, off kitchen deck, and a brand new shiny glass passageway allowing connection with the outdoors and time for coffee on the private master deck with incredible views. Leaving 3602 must be akin to breaking up with the most attractive person you’ve ever met. We’ve both been through it. I may never love again“.
