| Fresh “Jump for My Love” Project in Wiesbaden by Ich Bin Kong Posted: 05 Oct 2011 07:27 AM PDT
Awesome gestures deserve to be known and admired. This is why the “Jump for my love” project in Wiesbaden, Germany, caught our attention when we saw it on Wooster Collective. It is part of a diploma project by German artist Ich Bin Kong. Here are the words describing the project straight from the artist: “The Main Issue of my Diploma is Irritation. To bring Messages to places, you wouldn´t expect them, I painted the bottom of a Jump-Pool in Wiesbaden. The Message is encouraging and provocative and also an homage to that awesome song by the pointer sisters.” This connection between the artist’s vision and the third single of the Pointer Sisters’ 1983 album, Break Out, made the project special on a personal level and brings joy to each visitor, reminding us to remember the things that influenced out lives.

| An Elegant Design Approach: The Vertical House in Brazil Posted: 05 Oct 2011 04:51 AM PDT
The Vertical House was designed by São Paulo-based studio Isay Weinfeld and is a 3,767 square foot, two-story residence located in São Paulo, Brazil. The brief called for a home especially designed and built for a young single man. Here is more from the architects’ official project description: “Having a full program to consider – besides the usual rooms, the client wished for a guest room, a gym, a swimming pool and caretaker's quarters -, we decided to build the house vertically and to evolve the rooms upwards on split-levels: a basement, four above-ground floors and a rooftop terrace. Down in the basement are a small gym and sauna. On ground floor, set between an entry court where a cutout in the roof brings natural light in and lets a Yellow Ipê tree to rise up through and grow, and a tiny walled-in garden and swimming pool in the back of the plot, a lofty, double-height living room is the core space in the house.
On mezzanine level, dining room and kitchen overlook the living room below, while a small terrace in the open looks out onto the street. One level up is the master suite with an east-facing balcony; another level above is a guest bedroom with a west-facing balcony. Finally, on the uppermost level, a rooftop terrace crowns the densely packed structure." We love the simple and elegant design approach for this home and are looking forward to read your thoughts as well. What are the details you find most inspiring?

| Beautiful Photos Of The Eames Aluminum Chair by Ingmar Swalue Posted: 05 Oct 2011 03:50 AM PDT
We would like to showcase a few photos of the modern Eames Aluminum Chair taken with different objects that shape an artistic monochromatic image. This excellent way of playing with objects, shapes and colors really makes the amazing Eames Aluminum Chair seem as inviting as the artistic expression it helps create. The photos were taken for an Eames Aluminum Chair brochure and the team that worked on this project is made of photographer Ingmar Swalue and stylist Emmeline de Mooij. The chairs introduced in 1958 are still very much up to date, displaying a carefully studied, timeless and graceful silhouette. If you are familiar with this iconic chair design, you know how hard it is to express its fascinating effect in photos. This is why this time, the photographer and stylist did a wonderful job, don’t you think?

| Impressive Contemporary Penthouse Overlooking The Sydney Harbour Posted: 05 Oct 2011 02:57 AM PDT
Christopher Polly Architect completed a contemporary penthouse located in a eastern suburb of Sydney with views of Sydney Harbour to the north and Double Bay and Point Piper to the east. According to the press release we were sent, “the project involved the complete internal reconfiguration and refurbishment of a top floor penthouse to improve the kitchen and bathroom spaces, amenity to the living areas and terrace, lighting, storage and physical and visual connections to the terrace. Commencing at the entry and culminating at the northern terrace, a long joinery device is employed as a means of unifying disparate wall alignments within the public domain, ultimately serving as the key threshold between the public and private areas of the plan arrangement. Its visually planar quality is punctuated by pivoting panels, recesses and apertures that lead to a reconfigured private domain of rooms, new enlarged bathroom and new kitchen respectively.
Large sliding and pivoting panels flexibly enable the second guest room to expand into and form part of the public area, gaining access to light and ventilation, thereby visually and physically enlarging the public area into the depth of the plan. A new study and sitting area are inserted near the entry, permitting access to alternative contemplative views of the harbor which can be visually delineated from the main living areas by a retractable curtain to flexibly contract or enlarge the living areas as required”. Enjoy the photo and please leave your personal opinions about this project below. [Photography: Brett Boardman]

| An Ingenious Idea: Distorted Aquarium by Psalt Design Posted: 05 Oct 2011 01:55 AM PDT
You just gotta love a design idea so simple and fresh! This aquarium is the creation of Psalt Design, a collaborative studio composed of three English friends who graduated together at Sheffield Hallam University: Richard Bell, Thomas McKeown and David Powell. The piece is self-explanatory: simple, beautiful and stylish. The “Bubble Tank” provides a unique touch to any type of contemporary environment. No need for wide custom made aquarium supports, a small table is enough, as this crazy design has stability just by occupying half the surface it is placed on. And the fun thing about it is that this is one of the few aquariums out there that allows your fish to swim upstream and downstream. We are eager to find out your personal opinions regarding this unusual aquarium design.

| Stable Building Transformed Into Charming Contemporary Home in Australia Posted: 05 Oct 2011 01:05 AM PDT
Cloud no 9 Residence was designed by Australia studio Andrew Simpson Architects and is located in Melbourne,Australia. The project is a conversion of a stable building and warehouse into a stylish contemporary home. Here is an excerpt from the official architects’ description:“The conversion required a response that balanced the heritage value of the existing building (which had been deemed individually significant), with the desire of the client for a high tech environmentally sustainable house that reflected their needs as a tight-knit family. The home’s geometry forms an underlying system of organization for the house in both plan and section. The main stables area is a large open plan volume where functions are delineated by 360 degree free standing joinery. A winding mezzanine extends overhead, maintaining visual connection between the two levels to reinforce the notion that this is a house that celebrates "family" as a form of social engagement or gemeinschaft." Have a look at the photos below and enjoy this project’s unique architecture and interior design features.

| Interesting Vintage Book Clocks To Display Your Love for Books Posted: 04 Oct 2011 11:19 PM PDT
Reading is one of the most interesting, useful and liberating hobby, creating different adventures and situations in your mind. Remembering to take time to read can become easier if you have one of these beautiful vintage book covers on the wall. Each story brings a new decorative possibility, each cover displays a different design, making all these Vintage Book Clocks unique and amazing. The colors, textures of each cover, and different designs make every clock fun and fascinating, creating the setting for a vintage-inspired decor. Some covers feature the mechanism in the middle of the book, others were carefully placed on different focal point and the rest of them seem to have been randomly mechanized. There are many more models to choose from on the Los-Angeles-based artist’s Etsy shop. What do you think about the book clocks?

| A Delightful Australian Home: North Bondi House by MCK Architects Posted: 04 Oct 2011 02:24 PM PDT
The delightful North Bondi House was completed by Australian studio MCK Architects and is located in Bondi, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. According to the architects,"this project comprises a first floor addition and a ground floor reinvention to a space + light deprived semi. Floorspace has been sacrificed on the first floor to create a double height open core to the centre of the house, filtering natural light into the depths of the interior. Dead space has been otherwise eliminated where possible through open planning and recycling circulation functionality." The result is a contemporary home with a tasteful design and an inviting atmosphere. We like the connection between the patio and the open plan living room with integrated kitchen. The arrangement is clever and stylish, with decorating details that we are certain you will find inspiring. [Photos by: Douglas Frost]

| Colorful and Appealing Student Library in Melbourne by dKO Architecture Posted: 04 Oct 2011 08:30 AM PDT
As part of the Australian Federal Government's Building Education Revolution, dKO Architecture was commissioned to design the student library and associated facilities at St Joseph's Primary School in Collingwood, Melbourne. Here is the official project description we received: “Today's libraries are repositories and access points for vast quantities of print, audio and visual materials in numerous formats. With projects of this nature the opportunity for architects is to create spaces that meet the challenges brought about by ever-changing technology as well as providing for a dynamic and diverse age group within the primary school learning spectrum. Quality of light and an intelligent use of space are paramount. Careful consideration should also be given to managing internal traffic areas and noise control. dKO Architecture's design has delivered an environment which encourages vibrant student interaction while accommodating quiet study areas, as well as considered and abundant storage for the vast amount of resources required in the modern day library.” Think this is the sort of design that will boost the kids’ reading appetite?
