Decaying Victorian Houses Made of LEGO Pieces by Mike Doyle

abandoned house lego 7 Decaying Victorian Houses Made of LEGO Pieces by Mike Doyle

One look at these photos is enough to make anyone remember that creativity comes in many shapes. These impressive abandoned Victorian homes were all built with the help of LEGO bricks. The original idea belongs to Mike Doyle, who not to long ago finished his third collapsing home in this amazing series. According to Laughing Squid, the projects made so far are called Victorian on Mud Heap, achieved with the help of about 110k-130k pieces (first photo), Three Story Victorian with Tree, made of 50k-60k LEGO pieces (second photo) and TwoStory with Basement (third picture of this post). And in case you were wondering, each house took from 450 to 600 hours to build. But the creative mind behinds them explains: “To my eyes, patterns of decay find a more pleasing path than an untouched object. A roof collapsed by the weight of snow, side shingles ripped by the force of winds, substructures rotting, insects and weather gnawing the exposed surfaces. I can picture those windy days where a shingle flies off. Or the sudden creaking, cracking and burst of tinder giving way under snow’s heavy hand“. We find these decaying Victorian homes absolutely spectacular and are looking forward to seeing your reactions.

Office and Meeting Space Combined in an Eye-Cathing Building: KIT pavilion

Posted: 04 Oct 2011 04:45 AM PDT

kit01 Office and Meeting Space Combined in an Eye Cathing Building: KIT pavilion

KIT pavilion was designed by Japanese Architects Atelier K and is located in Kyoto, Japan. The building was especially designed as an office and meeting space for the Kyoto Institute of Technology. A giant cantilevered roof creates a dramatic visual effect and differentiates the project from its surrounding buildings. According to the architects, the multi-functional design “draws from and integrates the adjacent landscaping into the conditions of the interior. To the south, an ‘active yard’ consisting of a curvilinear ramp becomes the approach path to the entrance, while a ‘static yard’ finished with a carpet of white sand is tucked into the layout with three rooms arranged around it. Clearly read from the exterior as a folded surface, the roof and wall form cuts away sections of its elevation to enable natural daylight to enter from the west.” The interior design is clean and tasteful, with lovely modern arrangements, creating an environment that is highly fit for professional discussions. modern villa 9 Modern Villa Displaying an Original Geometry in Brazil

Vila Castela was designed by Anastasia Architects and is an original looking modern home located in Nova Lima, Brazil. The cantilevered volumes are a result of the site characteristics: “We have chosen this concept not only for aesthetic reasons, but above all to reduce the interference of the building mass in the topography, keeping the site as natural as possible. As we placed the ground level of the residence 7 meters below the street , we were able to preserve the pedestrian view of the forest, at the same time that keeping the privacy of the owners, because the main apertures and the glass walls are oriented to the east, on the opposite side of the street. The urban impact of the residence is minimized, in benefit of the beautiful view of the woods“. According to the architects, the total constructed area is 650 sq meters and the residence has three floors: the basement with sauna, Jacuzzi, and an wine cellar, the ground floor (living area and the kitchen and external terrace) and the first floor, where the bedrooms are located. We have to know: do you find the geometry of this residence appealing?

Once in a while, an item is so simple and provocative, that it immediately stands out in the crowd. This time, we are talking about a shelving unit that is not only versatile, but also simple and fresh. The fun, colorful and minimalist piece of furniture that drew our attention is the Serpent Modular Shelving System by Bashko Trybek. Its effective design leaves little room for clutter – it encourages you to keep it as tidy as possible in order to enhance the modern design. The fun part is that you can interact with the shelving system, creating your own dimensions and displays. This makes it easier for you to personalize the living or working space while displaying a colorful collection of adjustable wires. Easy to recycle, the Serpent Modular Shelving System displays a CMYK color scheme that will make it easy to fit in with a modern interior design.

For today we would like to present an intriguing residence, initially built in 1932 for the renowned American muralist Ezra Winter. The impressive 6,600 square foot house was designed by Winterhouse Studio and is located in a privileged landscape in Northwestern Connecticut. The natural environment within which this home is integrated features landscaped gardens, open land, hiking trails, streams and a beautiful natural waterfall. The house consists of four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a large painted studio with 30' ceilings and 24' high windows, contemporary kitchen, garage and barn. The generous living room (or family room) can be recognized by the original stone fireplace and floor to ceiling bookshelves. The dining room looks royal and inviting. How do you like the mix of old and new in this particular project? [Photo Credits: Albert Vecerka/Esto & Michael Moran ]
