| Impressive Cantilevered Residence With a Modern Design in Seattle Posted: 30 Sep 2011 11:43 PM PDT
Eaton Residence was designed by E. Cobb Architects and is an original looking cantilevered home located in Magnolia Park, Seattle, Washington. The exterior design of this residence is truly imposing and eye-catching. Composed of two intersected volumes, the residence seems to float above the generous pool in the courtyard and watch over it at the same time. From the street, the house has a relatively unfriendly look and seems to resemble a closed fortress. But once the entrance gate is passed, the visitor is greeted by a green yard, large windows and an overall inviting environment. The interior design is highly modern. A large, open plan living room with floor to ceiling windows and minimalist furniture sets the tone for the entire home. No matter what room you are in, the ocean views are maximized and the indoor/outdoor boundaries fade away. How would you feel about living in this type of home? Do you find it inviting or too sober? | Modern Hillside Residence Paying Tribute to Light and Space: Graticule House Posted: 30 Sep 2011 10:08 AM PDT
The Graticule House was designed by studio David Jameson Architect and is a two-story single-family residence located near the estuary of a river in Great Falls, Virginia, USA. Here is a short project description from the architects: "Situated on a hillside site, the Graticule House is conceived to be a trace, or reference datum, allowing a reading of the relationship between the building and nature. Fundamental to the conception of the house is the notion of cadence, where repetitious vertical and horizontal markers of the building's tectonics are juxtaposed with the particularity of the forest and ground plane. Light and space are modulated by meshing ribbons of glass and wall planes that form a tessellation of solid and void." The interior design of the Graticule House is tasteful and minimalist, with generous windows that ensure a perfect connection to the outdoors. [Photos by: Nic Lehoux Photography]
