Minimalist Japanese Residence Flaunting a Fascinating Facade Posted: 24 Jun 2011 05:52 AM PDT Looking at the Cell Brick House from the outside makes you wonder how the interiors of this amazing architectural building are shaped. The skin of the house is what makes it so special. It displays a fascinating pattern of holes that rise up from a pebble-covered base. Small steel boxes were placed one on top of the next to shape a rectangular block that shelters the interior living spaces. Atelier Tekuto, the designers of the Cell Brick House, describe their challenges: “The first was to combine opposing architectonics; the masonry structure which is the origin of the building technique and the skin structure which I have been trying on my projects. And the second was to innovate something that equips structure, function and heat environment altogether.” By combining specific measurements for the steel bricks, the architects were able to ensure the interiors will have the right temperature and sunlight all year round. By covering the bricks with a heat resistant ceramic-infused coating, the house is protected from overheating. The interiors are brought to life by the personal belongings of the inhabitants, displayed on the special shelves. This creates an interesting personalized space that can become a little overwhelming at times. All in all, the residence is a step further in the way we look at residential architecture. Comfort and Design Meet Sound Technology: Woofer Chair Posted: 24 Jun 2011 03:47 AM PDT Innovative furniture designs have become more and more popular. People want to see creative furniture items adapted to modern times and the Woofer Chair is one of these. The chairs that was inspired by a loudspeaker also has technologic features “that allows for sound waves to vibrate throughout the seat, consenting the user to hear and even to feel the audio spectrum, thanks to sophisticated sound actuators hidden inside the fibreglass structure of the chair.” Designed by Singapore-based integrated spatial-design practice Ministry of Design for Saporiti Italia, the contemporary chair blurs the lines of design and sound technology, creating a world of possibilities for audio lovers. A soft ergonomic seating unit complements the hard fibreglass outer shell, exploiting the difference between the two materials. The shape and size of the Woofer Chair fabricate a connection between form and function: “Its sheer size gives gravitas to the low bass resonances while the tapering of its sides to mere millimetres is a nod to the treble timbres” The designers allow the chair to be personalized in order to offer a multitude of design options without tampering with the main design lines. Diverse & Contemporary Reader’s Home in the Czech Republic Posted: 24 Jun 2011 02:33 AM PDT We recently received an interesting looking modern home from David Hořava, one of our readers. This project is located in the outskirts of Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic and faces a beautiful natural park. The structure of the residence is as follows: on the first floor there is a living room with kitchen and terrace, a utility room,  bathroom and dressing room for the pool. The second level hosts two bedrooms, a study room, a bathroom and a terrace of 100 square meters. We really like the outdoor terraces, as they are extremely spacious and have plenty of socializing potential. Colorful patio furniture cheer up the atmosphere and make it even more inviting. Located not far away from the sea, this residence inspires peace, tranquility and an overall sunny feeling. Let your design style shine through: In past years, pillows were thought to only be a place to carry out the same material color as the rest of the couch, and were more for comfort than an accent. Serene and Inviting Residence Designed by Liz Williams Posted: 23 Jun 2011 08:39 AM PDT Fresh ans cosy, the residence on Amelia Island designed by Atlanta-based interior design firm Liz Williams Interiors displays a serene palette that offers the inhabitants a comfortable lifestyle. The talented interior designer knew how to bright up the place with colours, furniture and furnishings and managed to create a surprisingly beautiful collection of spaces. Soothing white walls make the decorations really pop out and all the neutral pieces of furniture are accentuated by a cool choice of colours. Linen-covered chairs and sofas and exceptionally beautiful curtains create a comfortable yet empowering atmosphere. A beautiful salvaged coffee table dominates the living room, adding character to the space. Gorgeous decorations and paintings reminding of summer and the beach were carefully selected to offer a serene environment where the inhabitants can feel at home.
