How to Add Depth to your Interiors with Accent Color Posted: 14 Jun 2011 05:46 AM PDT If you are trying to add the finishing touches on your room but can't figure out what the missing aesthetic piece is, it may be accent color. Accent colors enable a room to become whole with separate pieces of color adding depth to the composition of your interiors. The challenge is: how to bring the right balance of color as to not overbear the rest of the room or underwhelm the rest of your home. Here are tips for adding depth to your interiors with accent colors to reflect your individual decorative style.
Bringing accent colors into your interiors can help define your mood, or it can catapult you into a different space and time. The beauty of accents is they can appear in different forms. From your decorative Robin's Egg blue display dishes on your open shelving to the hot pink fluffy rug that adorns your playful media room, have fun with accents. Accent color can help you be indecisive or firm on color without even trying! Enjoy it. Freshome readers, tell us your favorite accent colors and what you pair them with in your home. Family Residence in South Korea: The Cracked House Posted: 14 Jun 2011 03:44 AM PDT Located in Heyri Art Valley, Paju, South Korea, the modern home spreads over more than 3,000 square feet. The uncluttered arrangement of furniture allows the interior spaces to have a modern continuity. Designed by South Korean architecture studio Mass Studies, the house features six bedrooms – three bedrooms and three separated guest rooms – and five bathrooms. A couple looking forward to retirement and their three children on their way to maturity needed a home within commuting distance of Seoul where they can enjoy their changing family life. The Cracked House was the perfect home for them, gathering many modern designed rooms under one roof. The three kitchens and common living area – including a living room, a dining room and a library – are separated into a cleverly built arrangement: “The southerly rectangular mass of the second floor is divided on the north-south axis into two different entities. The eastern side of the building contains a two-story family home, while the southern side contains lodgings for guests, or "temporary family members. These two main components are differentiated by function, but they can also be united through a shared space in the center of each level's "crack", or division, that leads outdoors. The two connecting spaces allow the structure to adapt fluidly as the family composition changes, acting both as one independent "house" appropriating the other, or as two units within a single house.” Enveloped in green exposed concrete, the house features a stainless steel wall in the southern end of the garden that encourages greenery to climb vertically on the wall. A comfortable sofa that takes you from one place to another, shows you around town and offers unforgettable sights alongside your love, best friend or parent, can be one of the best seating/visiting ideas. Designer Jacek Holubowicz visualized the concept of “Bike Date” as a natural response to the growing interest for bikes and the everlasting need for love. Presented during the International Design Festival Berlin 2011, the Sofa Bike found on Design Boom has all the technical features necessary for “a walk to remember”: two separated 8-gear hubs, a handle bar that operates the hydraulic brakes and dynamic chain steering for manoeuvres. Two additional bolsters ensure different heights for different sized people to make sure that anyone who tries the Sofa Bike has a pleasant experience. The folding roof protects users from harsh sunlight and the sound system completes the features of the Sofa Bike. Scroll down to see two pictures of the bike during construction and a video of how the Sofa Bike works.
