Coastal Three-Storey Residence Overlooking the Ocean

Posted: 10 Jun 2011 04:29 AM PDT

Oregon Coast House 2 Coastal Three Storey Residence Overlooking the OceanOccupying a stretch of the Oregon Coast, this beautiful modern residence stole our hearts. Spread over three levels, the house was revamped last year. Transforming it from a dull house into a brilliant and comfortable residence, Jesse Moyer of Jessica Helgerson Interior Design rearranged the spaces to fit the modern lifestyle. Each of the floors has its own common living space and bedrooms, so the residence feels like a complete dream home. The first floor has a unique atmosphere, casual and fun, accentuated by the boat converted to a swinging day bed hanging from the ceiling of the living room. A home theatre on the same floor with sunny velvet armchairs, Mexican movie posters and pillows made from vintage silk scarves invite friends to relax in a fun, colourful atmosphere. The second floor features a game room with a personalized game table designed by Jesse Moyer that features reupholstered vintage chairs to match the table. The last floor conveys a feeling of elegant living, with a “16-foot-long sofa that curves gracefully on thin walnut legs, a handcrafted walnut lamp that curves to match the sofa, and a chandelier that reflects the ocean in hundreds of slightly irregular hand-blown glass drops.” There is also a home office and beautiful terraces, one overlooking the Ocean, another one featuring a gorgeous ceramic dining table. Which one is your favourite room of the house?

How to Bring Power Color Combinations into your Interiors

Posted: 10 Jun 2011 03:08 AM PDT

Every year the world of home interiors sees color trends come and go, and depending on which ones are more impactful from a cultural, design, or aesthetic perspective, many tend to trickle into other seasons in popularity. Colors that are powerful together and make interiors appear stronger, dramatic or eye-catching are termed "power colors".  In 2011 the Color Trends report has several colors that have made it big in fashion and in home design. Take a look at these power color combinations and note how any of them can take your interiors from ordinary to dazzling with their introduction into your home.

  • Turquoise and Lime Green: Ever since Turquoise was announced the color of the year by Pantone in 2010, it has kept interiors looking fresh and modern. The combination of powerful, yet soothing turquoise with the fun and sassiness of lime green makes these two colors a power color combination. Whether used in bathrooms, kitchens, baths or living rooms, turquoise and lime green remind you of vacationing in lazy summer beach house with the sophisticated posh aesthetic that we all crave in our interiors.

  • Orange and Hot Pink: The interesting pairing of orange and hot pink is how powerful each of these are on their own. Once combined they complement each other beautifully. Variations of orange can range from pastel salmon tones to deep rust and hot pink can vary from pastel blush pink to deep magenta pinks. From textiles for bedding and drapery to wallpaper, orange and hot pink is a power color combination that is not from the timid. If you prefer a tamer combination, try using the lighter tones of each, and see how much your interiors will speak volumes about you!

  • Neutrals and Black: While neutrals tend to be laid back and calm, when combined with striking pairing of black colors intermixed with white, camel, beige, and grays, what a way to add drama to your dining or living room. Black has always been seen to add drama to home interiors, and can often feel cave-like and over bearing if not used sparingly. When paired with whites and cream colors, the timeless and classic combination makes any interior feel like it will be comfortable today or 100 years from now.

  • Metalics combined with all colors: While metallics aren't considered a color, they are considered a finish, but combine a powerful color combination with any color of the rainbow! From cool metallics in stainless steel, silver, nickel and platinum to the warm appeal of bronzes, copper, and gold's, metallics are another way to make your interiors pop. When choosing metallics opt for the colors of spectrum that coincide with the warm and cool colors of the inherent metals. For example red, orange, yellow and lighter greens look fabulous paired with the warm metals, and darker greens, blues and purples blend well with the silvery cool metallics.

Playing with Heights and Colours: Do-Lo-Rez Sofa by Ron Arad

Posted: 10 Jun 2011 01:13 AM PDT

Do Lo Rez by Ron Arad 6 Playing with Heights and Colours: Do Lo Rez Sofa by Ron AradThe Do-Lo-Rez is one of Ron Arad‘s most beautiful pieces of furniture. Combining modern technology and contemporary design, he managed to create exceptional pieces like this colourful sofa. The London-based designer and architect created the Do-Lo-Rez piece as a versatile sofa made from polyurethane foam that varies in density to ensure both a sturdy base and a soft seating area. Cubes and rectangles of various heights arranged in rows shape the modern sofa into a unique configuration. By rearranging the cubes and rectangles, new pieces of furniture can be created. A platform at the base of the sofa ensures the stability of Do-Lo-Rez – the stiffer foam in each unit is attached to the platform with the help of steel pins. The units all have a 21x21cm footprint but vary in height from 27.5cm to 83cm. This allows the design to play with the different heights in order to shape a contemporary sofa. Joyful displays of colours mix to create a modern look that accentuates the bold design. Would you dare to display such a strong combination of colours and design in your own home?

The Nautilus Project is a creative restaurant envisioned by Design Spirits and located in Singapore. According to the project developer, “the entrance of the restaurant is flanked on one side by an oyster bar and on the other side by displays of delectable dessert and trays of fresh crustaceans on ice. A certain concept of the design, chef, design and location have been prepared by the food consultant from the beginning had caused me difficulty in leading my own ideal interior design.  However, the owner is the president of the cargo company and her beauty made me decided to reflect her sophisticate, elegant plus the tender characteristic to this restaurant project“. The entrance is unconventional and looks like a giant passage way, which makes visitors feel allured and welcomed. The designers wanted this restaurant to be interactive and to have a large degree of refinement. We believe they managed to reach their goals, don’t you ?

Light, Sober and Comfortable: Volo Chair by Andreas Störiko

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 08:07 AM PDT

Volo Chair was designed by German designer Andreas Störiko for the Swedish manufacturer Lammhults. With a sober, yet spectacular design, the project is suited for offices, home desks or minimalist living-rooms (may we suggest a black & white interior?). Its clean, modern shape inspires a large degree of comfort, especially when used together with the footrest. According to the designers, “Volo has been given a Latin name that means 'I fly'. The lightness of the easy chair is pivotal. Sitting in the chair feels almost like floating, all thanks to the construction whereby steel tubing extends from a round, swiveling aluminum section that enables the chair to easily follow the slightest movement of the person sitting in it“. Have a look at the details in the photos below and don’t forget to give us your feedback concerning the design of this chair.
