Original and Strikingly Clever: V-House by GAAGA Posted: 07 Jun 2011 07:01 AM PDT V-House was designed by a company of architects entitled GAAGA and is located in Leiden, The Netherlands. This beautiful compact home takes its name from a distinct feature: its roof shape. Even though it is hardly noticeable from the outside, the crib has a total of two floors, each with its well structured living zones. The first level accommodates the entrance hall, with views to the garden, the stairway and a corridor which opens up to the bedrooms on the right side and to a large polyvalent space on the left side. On the top floor, there is a living, dining and kitchen area. These spaces are all united under a single ceiling, varying in height from 2.8 meters at the centre to 4.1 meters at the edges. We really love the diversity of this house, which inspires warmth and serenity. Have a look at the photos and tell us if you feel the same. [ Photography: Marcel van der Burg ]

An Intriguing Design Innovation: Litracon® Transparent Concrete Posted: 07 Jun 2011 05:49 AM PDT Have a look at this creative idea that can be widely applied when it comes to a variety of designs ! According to the producers,” Litracon® is a combination of optical fibers and fine concrete. It can be produced as prefabricated building blocks. Due to the small size of the fibres, they blend into concrete becoming a component of the material like small pieces of aggregate. In this manner, the result is not only two materials – glass in concrete – mixed, but a third, new material, which is homogeneous in its inner structure and on its main surfaces as well. Litracon® is a fully handmade product which results an exceptional and individual pattern of light in each piece“. We like the idea of indoor panels, but we believe there are many more ways this innovation could be taken advantage of. How would you use transparent concrete in your home?

Elegant and Spacious: The Floating House in South Korea Posted: 07 Jun 2011 03:46 AM PDT The Floating House is an impressive contemporary residence designed by Hyunjoon Yoo Architects and located in South Korea. The brief was to create a home suited for a couple in their sixties, which would take advantage of the river nearby and avoid the overall racket of the neighborhood. According to the architects, the plan can be described as the "space within space”: ” The service space, such as a bathroom, a dress room, and a kitchen, was concentrated in the middle and compactly distributed, and a bedroom was placed in the east, a living room in the west, and a corridor in the outskirts. To make people in the house feel the space bigger than real, a circular traffic line was adopted instead of one main traffic line. The circular traffic line was made with a minimum width to differentiate the intensity of space, but the space does not look small because the traffic line extends to visually meet the terrace. Since the stairs that lead to the roof were made as if they were inserted to the second floor, the staircase does not protrude on the roof. The staircase itself plays a role as a well of light, transmitting light to the middle level of the house.” We truly appreciate the creativity of this design and the tasteful decors. Interesting Decorative Idea: MOSSTiles by Benetti Stone Philosophy Posted: 07 Jun 2011 12:14 AM PDT Benetti Stone Philosophy came up with an original idea that can be the basis for alluring green decors. MOSStiles were born from the designers’ “love for green” and is a miniature indoor garden created with aesthetics in mind. Here is more from the producers: “MOSStile is obtained by a stabilized lichen which can live thanks to dampness in the environement. It does not need any watering or pruning after installation, nor does it need light for its maintenance. MOSStile does not require any special arrangement and can be directly installed on any kind of surface. The modules can be combined together or matched up with other Benetti Stone's tiles. Lively and charming walls creating a quiet, intimate indoor Eden“. We have to say we find this idea appealing and extremely practical, perfectly suited for those who like plants, but are too caught up in their daily routine to give them the attention they need.

Interactive and Playful: Fruit Bowl Furniture Collection by Hiroomi Tahara Posted: 06 Jun 2011 09:04 AM PDT The Fruit Bowl collection was designed by Hiroomi Tahara (currently living in Milan) for Japanese manufacturing company Yamakawa Rattan. The playful set reminded the creator of random fruits “Please enjoy placing various combinations and arrangements of cushions on this sofa as you do with a fruit bowl“-asserted Tahara. The items were all handmade using rattan and were particularly created for outdoor decors. However, within the right context, we believe the collection can also be integrated in living rooms, office buildings and so on. We particularly like the accompanying low table and poufs with multicolored cushions, as they bring some extra vitality to the design. This original looking furniture set brings warmth to a place and creates an inviting atmosphere, perfect for encouraging interaction. Have a look at the photos and let us know what you think!
