Friendly, Youthful and Fresh: Propaganda Hair Salon in Texas Posted: 02 Jun 2011 06:01 AM PDT Propaganda Hair Salon was designed by Becky Jeanes from Dick Clark Architecture and is located Austin, Texas. The place has a very youthful feel and looks quite inviting. Here is a description from the designers: “Walnut cabinets along the outer walls consolidate varying programmatic needs into one continuous design element and delineate individual spaces within the open plan. Reception, retail display, makeup artist, stylist stations, color technicians, dressing rooms and smock closet all integrate into the language of the cabinets as they transform through the space. The shampoo area, implied by a dropped wood ceiling and sheer curtains, provides a serene environment remote from the activity of the stylist area. Auxiliary spaces – break room, restrooms, and office – appear as tall white volumes to create gallery-like walls for photographic display. Below an open ceiling and exposed building systems, a textured spine connects the two entrances and highlights the open plan with a dramatic perspective“. We really appreciate the friendly and open atmosphere this unusual hair salon inspires and are looking forward to your opinions on this project.

Bold Fully Automated and Eco-Friendly Hotel Design: HI-MATIC[Video] Posted: 02 Jun 2011 03:16 AM PDT The HI-Matic Hotel in Paris, designed by Matali Crasset, greets the travellers with a colourful mix of bold design and eco-friendly service. This hotel strives to be a new type of travel-friendly concept, “mixing codes of an urban hotel and country side bed and breakfast, with strong ecological values.” Each of the 42 rooms of the hotel offer a discrete and functional space that cares for any need: “the room in HIMATIC uses the codes of a cabana: functional yet fun, triggering childhood memories. The platform bed with a shape memory mattress is in the centre of the room to maximize its space using it as a large sofa during the day and in the evening enjoying a good night's sleep.” Besides being fully automated, the hotel located in the Bastille area is also environmentally friendly. The facade is covered in mineral organic paint, the restaurant menu includes only organic products, they only use recycled paper and recycle waste, they use ecological cleaning products and even the staff’s t-shirts are made out of organic cotton. Next time you visit Paris, you should check out the HI-MATIC Hotel.

Repurposed Furniture Collection: “Not So Fragile” by UXUS Posted: 02 Jun 2011 01:51 AM PDT “Not So Fragile” is a unique furniture collection designed by UXUS featuring recycled furniture wrapped in neon orange packing tape. Here is a statement from the designers: “By subverting the use of ordinary objects and assumed perceptions of beauty, our orientation of what is expected for those things begins to acquire a poetic quality. The commonplace transcends its origins, becoming evocative and engaging in the unexpected circumstances of misplaced use. Not So Fragile is a one-of-a-kind repurposed furniture collection composed in neon orange packing tape, taking on a new life and shedding expected perceptions to become evocative furniture elements. This is furniture for the post materialist, a collection that is at once unique, sustainable and iconic.” Do you have any repurposed furniture items you would like the world to see?

Interesting Design Elements and Rental Features: Nowhere but Sajima House Posted: 02 Jun 2011 12:13 AM PDT The Nowhere but Sajima House has proven to be an outstanding modern vacation home for its inhabitants. Located approximately 1 hour away from Tokyo, in a small fishing village, the vacation house designed by Japanese architect Yasutaka Yoshimura brings fresh architectural inspiration for those in need of new ideas. Offering extensive views of Mount Fuji and the Enoshima peninsula, the Nowhere but Sajima House mimics an urban setting at a perfect distance from the crowded city. This offers the opportunity of enjoying a week or a weekend away from urban developments for different tenants. The house is perfect for different activities, from relaxing after a stressful period to parties and even weddings. Its architecture allows the tenants to explore a triangular structure with tube-like spaces that can easily adapt to any need. Although the house faces other buildings across the water, the main openings that serve as frames for the view were designed to only capture the extraordinary water panoramas, thus making curtains or other view-obstructing elements obsolete. How would you feel if you had the chance of renting such a spectacular house? Ready for more amazing design ideas? Check below !

Exquisite Interior Design Within a 12th Century Oil Mill Posted: 01 Jun 2011 10:04 AM PDT Located in Extramadura, a community of western Spain, this amazing building was first constructed by the Jerónimo monks in the 12th century and later became an oil mill. Due to its historic value, its original architecture was kept intact. In order to rehabilitate the building and transform it into a proper living space, the current owners transmitted their request to architect Ricardo Elizondo, who reinvented the space, after almost two decades of utter neglect. Found on Nuevo Estilo, this fabulous crib characterized by austere lines and natural materials is bold and dramatic, making it a perfect home for lovers of genuine experiences. Colorful materials give the place an inviting touch, while iron and steel elements make an intriguing contrast with the old brick walls. Vintage furniture is aesthetically mixed with modern wooden items and paintings liven the heavy atmosphere. We absolutely love seeing old buildings having kept their architecture in such a creative manner, don’t you?
