We received a fantastic looking apartment designed by Robert Janevski, lover of photography, art and visual aesthetics. The loft has an area of 45 m2 and is located in downtown Skopje, Macedonia. Here is more information from our reader:  “The challenge was to get a clean design where the white color dominates, but in the same time preserve the warmth of a family home. It was also necessary to find a solution of the use of space because its height (in certain parts of the loft under 150cm) is hardly functional. The space had to meet the needs for a bedroom, study room, rest room and leaving room. The design allows visual separation of space. Thanks to the use of different colors, sleeping space “disclaims” the color red and the relax room is characterized by green. Glass and light sources from different directions dominate the desk . The white color unifies the space.” We are looking forward to your reactions regarding the design of this crib. Robert first posted a picture with his apartment on our Facebook page and from there it got here …so if you want to show us something interesting go to our Facebook page right now and do it.

Auxiliary Tables Inspired By the Colorful District of La Boca, Argentina

LaBocaTable1 Auxiliary Tables Inspired By the Colorful District of La Boca, Argentina

Marcela Casarotto is a 23 year old Brazilian artist who just graduated in product design. We find the furniture set she sent us charming and original. Here is a description from the designer: “The project proposed the creation of a set of residential auxiliary tables using the colorful district of La Boca (Argentina) as semantic reference, searching for meanings attributed to it and reflecting them on the product through its esthetic and symbolic functions. With the refining of the selected alternative, a prototype side table was produced in order to verify characteristics related to the dimension, volume, materials, ergonomics and functionality. The proposed product allows the consumer to assemble it at home and select the colors for the finishing, making it part of the environment it's inserted in a pleasant and humorous way. The prototype is made with mdf, hardwood and PET finishing.” The last photo of the post is taken in the La Boca district, Argentina-  the designer’s inspiration source.

Design Style: Japanese Inspired Interiors

Posted: 01 Jun 2011 03:01 AM PDT

If you've ever been attracted to the clean lines of modern and minimalistic qualities of decor and interiors, most likely that inspiration stemmed from traditional Japanese interiors.  The Zen-like qualities of space, open floor plans, natural materials, and nature inspired neutral color palettes are Eastern civilization qualities of Japanese interiors in which we love our interiors to be infused with these same aesthetics. If you're trying to bring Japanese inspiration into your home, here are tips to bring details into your home, which reflect this influential decor style.

  • Open spaced floor plans: In Western civilization, the tendency to place furniture closer together and in abundance is the opposite in Eastern civilization. Open spaced floor plans that keep walls to a minimum and embrace views to the exterior are a quality to bring into your home. Japanese interiors embrace nature and views, and having open floor space between furniture and the built environment around your interiors will naturally make your space feel lighter and less weighted down.

  • Japanese decor to bring authenticity: Bringing in authentic pieces of decor will help you quickly change your interiors into Japanese infused spaces. Consider laying down tatami straw mats on the floor to cover wide floor areas. They are a beautiful backdrop underfoot and double as attractive ways to bring in flooring texture. Shoji screens or translucent fusuma screens are the traditional rice paper screens that can be used to separate areas of a room, or are used for gorgeous backdrops in your interiors. They serve to screen out harsh light and can also be used for window treatments. Bring these decor ideas into your space to transform the lighting and to bring instant Japanese details into your interiors

  • Natural materials unite with architecture: Japanese interiors embrace natural materials such as bamboo, timber framed carpentry, and dark metals such as iron, and rock are all significant aspects of Japanese interiors. In your home consider bringing these materials into your spaces, such as the kitchen, bathroom, and main living spaces. Bamboo wood floors, accent walls made from flagstone, or river rock, and simple lines in the architecture of your home, can mimic the Japanese aesthetic for your space. Let your furniture mimic these same materials, and keep them low to the ground. Furniture that is minimalistic, simple, and has strong horizontals aspects are common for Japanese interiors.

  • Connection to nature: From Japanese gardens in your outdoor home to wide expansive uses of glass that have minimal mullions to interrupt the view, Japanese inspired interiors have a connection with nature. Whether the connection is physical or is only visual, the ability to open up your home with sliding glass doors, wall doors, or butt-glazed glazing to unite one space with another, consider using these details in your home. Also use greenery, rocks, fountains, and other nature amenities in your home to bring the connection into each space. Whether it's man-made or truly natural, Japanese inspired homes have a connection to make humans feel one with nature.

Try using these tips in your home to see which ideas you'd like to adopt to transform your home into an Eastern civilization oasis.

Clever and Innovative Arrangement of Spaces: House O

Posted: 01 Jun 2011 01:57 AM PDT

house o 1 Clever and Innovative Arrangement of Spaces: House OHow many of you have gone through building your own home? The excitement, the expectations, the happiness – these feelings are what rushed over anyone who ever dreamed about the perfect house, personalized to capture the essence of your personal lifestyle. House O is one of those residences that fulfil their inhabitant’s dreams. Designed by Japanese studio Jun Igarishi Architects, the house looks as an imposing structure although it has only one floor. Each of the geometric structures that compose the body of the house was placed as to offer an exploration of differentiated internal spaces. The cooking area explores a strong visual connection to the adjacent trees, while the living space has visual connection to the south, with a large window facing an enclosed corridor that forms the outer walls of the nearby kitchen and dining room. Located in the middle of the house, the living space is also the tallest box-like structure. The other spaces received different heights that ended up shaping an architecture that looks like a little city. Its uniqueness lies in the dynamic architecture that the house displays from different vantage points. Clever arrangement of spaces, don’t you agree?

The creativity of the designers also leaves room for their client’s own visions: “All pieces are individually finished off to either the customer's personal taste, or to the ideas of the founders, Jimmie and Martin.” Take a look at each of the chairs – they all have something amazing to show off, whether it’s words, colours or dog illustrations. They play with different colours and symbols, like the Union Jack inspired upholstery, the neon green sausage dog upholstery or the classy commisioned chairs with words written on their earth-coloured upholstery. The colourful designs can bright up the atmosphere in an urban apartment or even give a sophisticated artistic vibe in a club. It’s up to you and the interior designers to place the right chair in the right setting – and trust me, there are a lot of designs to choose from.

Amber Glazed Bathroom Tiles Create Astonishing Bathroom Interiors

Posted: 31 May 2011 09:21 AM PDT

Glazed bathroom tiles 3 Amber Glazed Bathroom Tiles Create Astonishing Bathroom Interiors

Glazed bathroom tiles from ModCraft can transform your bathroom into a surprising new space. By allowing the renovation of your old bathroom to encompass modern bathroom tiles, you create a specific bathroom interior design personalized to fit your needs and look glamorously modern. Hand-crafted with distinct precision, the amber glaze bathroom tiles in this bathroom setting were described by Better Homes and Gardens as “combining warm ripples of retro with cool contemporary flair“. The faceted valley tiles in amber glaze splendidly contrast with white surroundings and merge with any transparent surface nearby. The best thing about these tiles is that a small amount of them can make a big difference if combined with the right kind of materials and shapes.  As you can see in the photos, the interior designer – Andee Hess – used the tiles on the wall behind the bathtub and accentuated the colour and shape of the tiles by pairing them up with heavily veined onyx. The bathtub and cabinetry were first installed and the tiles and onyx insertions were used to create a warmer atmosphere in the bathroom. Take a look at how beautiful the tiles can look in a well-designed bathroom!
