An Eye-catching Seating Collection of Intriguing Shapes: “Sakura”

2 An Eye catching Seating Collection of Intriguing Shapes: Sakura

Erika Templeton from Post+Beam sent us some great photos of “Sakura”, a furniture collection suited for both outdoor decors and inside arrangements. Here is the information we received: “Designed by Mark Robson, the Sakura collection features eye-catching, fluid lines. Sakura is a modular system featuring ottomans, side tables, armchairs, loungers, and beds. The chairs come in four relaxation positions, and pieces can be put together to form straight-lined or curved lounge suites. Each of the four designs, from the fully upright to fully reclined, is covered with supple, woven Hydropass® material, offering comfort and performance. Hydropass® is a three-dimensional network of polyester fibers woven into a honeycomb mesh. After a rain shower, the mattress can dry in 30 minutes, as water passes through the network immediately, without retention, stagnation, or a risk of mold forming. The beauty of the Sakura collection is their versatile ability to move from outside to inside the home.” What do you think of the design of this “fluid” collection?

Refreshing Contact With the Outdoors: House in the Woods by Parque Humano

Posted: 31 May 2011 04:32 AM PDT

House in the Woods 01 750x590 Refreshing Contact With the Outdoors: House in the Woods by Parque HumanoHouse in the Woods was designed by studio Parque Humano and is located in Valle de Bravo city in Mexico State. The residence was integrated within a picturesque forest area and overlooks Avándaro Lake. Strong visual connections were created by the architects at different elevations in order to forge a strong indoor outdoor connection. Here is more on the structure of the building from the project developers: “The cladding of the house evolved progressively in order to fit into the context of the town. An artisanal clay veneer was specially developed for the project, similar in texture to the traditional houses that you notice in the area. Its reaction to the weather causes the material to change constantly in response to varying levels of humidity. Two pavilions, unequal in size, are set in front of the pool area. The first and biggest one contains the living and dining spaces, kitchen and a working studio. The second one: two bedrooms. Each pavilion was carefully placed on the site, incorporating all the existing trees into the program and facing the most important views.” Does this not look like the perfect nature getaway?

Gradually Unfolding Architecture: Gorki House in Moscow

Gorki House was designed by Atrium and is integrated in a beautiful natural environment atop of a hill west of Moscow. The architects were commissioned to design a contemporary residence for a young couple and their kid, while maintaining a good relationship with the surrounding pine forest landscape. The building features generous windows and a large number of terraces which make it connect well with the outdoors. Its shape is highly original, consisting of a clever and appealing game of volumes which seem to gradually unfold. According to Arch Daily, the interior design follows the “patterns” of the exterior, as “public zones flow into private areas and vice-versa”. The rooms are airy and spacious, featuring contemporary furniture arrangements and inspiring decorative details. Have a look at the architecture plans at the end of the post for a general view and let us know what you think of this project. [Photography @ Yuri Palmin, Anton Nadtochiy]

Contemporary Art Exhibition Displaying 100,000 $1 bills at Guggenheim Museum

Posted: 31 May 2011 01:49 AM PDT

Hans Peter Feldmann Contemporary Art Exhibition Displaying 100,000 $1 bills at Guggenheim MuseumFor the German artist Hans-Peter Feldmann, winning the Hugo Boss prize in 2010 meant an opportunity for him to create a unique conceptual piece of art. With the $100,000 honorarium that he received for significant achievement in contemporary art and the exhibition time also awarded to the winner, the artist created a fantastic statement. He pinned 100,000 $1 bills on the wall of the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, creating an extraordinary exhibition. The bills he exposed in the museum had to be used bills, not crisp new dollar bills, so that no one would think that his work is about capitalism and power. The idea behind this concept was the artist’s connection to money throughout his career. Feldmann says that there was no money in the art world when he started making art in the '50s, so this installation is about showing the world the quantity – how much money there really is in the sum of $100,000. You can visit this year’s exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum between May 20 and November 2. It’s worth visiting because it is a onetime only exhibition, the artist taking home his money after November 2.

For today we would like to showcase a home that inspires warmth, vitality and a little bit of craziness. Located not far from Stockholm, this crib found on Skeppshomen has five bedrooms and a living area of 214 square meters. Integrated in a beautiful green area, atop a small hill, the owners of the villa can enjoy unobstructed views towards a serene landscape. An entertainment zone consisting of a generous pool and a table for eight creates the set for unforgeable socializing moments. The interior design of this fabulous retreat is invaded by color and makes one inevitably think of an artist’s crib. Buying Guide: How to Choose the Right Kitchen Appliances

Posted: 30 May 2011 08:50 AM PDT

Your kitchen appliances in your home make up the one of the largest investments for your pocket, as well as your time, which equates to functionality for your lifestyle in the kitchen. Buying kitchen appliances can be a daunting task when you look at all of the options, from energy saving, to high end designer models, to low cost models, how do you choose? Here are tips to guide your through the buying process and to help you feel informed and confident with your kitchen appliance buying decisions.

  • Refrigerators: With any appliance, before you get enamored with all the whistles and bells of how beautiful it looks and all of the gadgets assess your lifestyle. With refrigerators consider how many times you and your family cook and eat from home.  For larger families, larger capacity units will be necessary, as well as the ability for longer preservation of food. Higher end models that offer dual refrigeration, on-door controls, and energy efficiency may be more important for your families needs. While singles or those who don't cook a lot may prefer a snazzy stainless steel or built-in model that looks fantastic, but doesn't need all of the accompaniments.  Also consider if your home would need separate wine refrigeration storage, or possibly refrigerated drawers for easy access.

  • Ovens/Stoves: When considering an oven and stove, think about how you typically cook and if you're a novice or an experienced cook. The oven or stove you choose can have a great impact on how you cook and whether the energy you use to heat them is worthwhile. Convection over conventional ovens tends to use more energy but for expert cooks they enjoy the even distribution over heat and can usually cook their food faster and with more control. For those interested in buying a stove or cooktop, there are several options: induction, gas or electric all have their pros and cons. Most beginning cooks appreciate electric for its slow heat up, while experienced cooks prefer induction and ultimately gas stoves for its fast heat up and ability to cook under precise conditions.

  • Ventilation system: One area of your kitchen that is forgotten when considering appliances is the ventilation system. Range hoods overhead, or down draft systems that are integral into the countertop or cooktop are great for unobstructed overhead views. Depending on the size of your stove/cooktop and if you have an integral grill, griddle, burners, and other heating elements may increase the need for higher ventilation systems overhead. Research your favored appliance manufacturer too see what type of ventilation system is recommended for your kitchen.

  • Dishwasher: Similarly to your refrigerator, your family's lifestyle will largely dictate what type of dishwasher will be ideal for your home. Lower end models tend to have simplified controls, while more elaborate ones will have energy efficiency qualities, hidden controls, and noise reduction qualities – especially helpful in small homes or open floor plans. Dishwasher drawers are also available for smaller amounts of dishware and can save water usage when you don't have large loads to clean.

Choosing kitchen appliances for your home should be a rewarding experience but also fulfill your lifestyle and aesthetics of your kitchen. Use this helpful buying guide before you venture out to choose appliances. Also measure out the clear opening width and height of your space for the new appliances. There is nothing worse than investing on new appliances, for them not to fit in your kitchen!
