Colorful Modular Table for Fresh Dining Moments Posted: 13 May 2011 01:06 PM PDT We recently received a fun and colorful table design from Helsinki based KAYIWA studio. Here is the description together with a few relevant photographs from the designers: “NZELA is a sturdy modular table set made of grade A birch plywood. Plywood is used instead of plain solid wood because of its better resistance to the effects caused by humidity. The no-tool setup takes a mere 3 minutes per table and you may seamlessly conjoin – in whichever direction – as many tables. Storage is also easy – simply disassemble and place the table parts in a neat pile. NZELA may not only be used for dining but also as a conference table, a statement piece for the lobby or for an unofficial ping-pong match, to mention. There is ample legroom and a toddler’s high chair fits perfectly too. You may choose from 3 tabletop colors – red/white, blue/white or yellow/white. Additionally, the visual appearance (the glossiness or hues of the colors) may be personalized; and the table parts can be re-arranged to suit any space or taste. The De Stijl movement inspired this objet d’art. The name Nzela is Luganda for Angella in homage to my grandmother.” Do you find this table appealing or do you prefer a more sober model?

Impressive Architecture Project: House -=+ by Less Is More Design Posted: 13 May 2011 10:02 AM PDT French architect and photographer Julien Smith, is established in Vietnam for 7 years and run the studio "Less Is More Design". For today we would like to present an original project called “House-=+” and located in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh), a crowded city in Vietnam. Here are the details we received: An empty land of 4m*25m in the middle of a traditional Vietnamese plot has been chosen for him and his family to establish their own place and the studio as well. This house is a typical case in Vietnam where sites are narrow and long. This is an interesting "nha pho" (Vietnamese name for small and narrow city house) reference. This design could be qualified as a minimalist, modern tropical design while transposing the domestic Vietnamese architecture features. Volumes, open spaces, natural light were the first concerns. The main impressive feature of this house is the 5 meter high folding shutters louvers. "A challenge that we have overcome with the carpenter". (except sanitary ware, light appliance and chairs, almost the entire house is costume made with local manufacturer). This unique element composes itself the entire façade and reaches all the expected functions: design – identity – solar control – privacy – security. Have a look at the photos and please give us your feedback in the comments section.

Nature in a Bag: Flexible RUCSAC Pot by Matteria Posted: 13 May 2011 08:20 AM PDT We recently received an interesting design from Matteria, a company that features products based on “imaginative reuse of reclaimed materials”, sustainability and energy efficiency. Easy to move from place to place, the RUCSAC pot for plants can be a friendly green companion that will follow you inside the house, outside on the terrace, on the balcony or in the garden. Weightless, flexible and user-friendly, one could say that this design carries nature around in a bag. The producers describe RUCSAC as frost and sun resistant pot. Its double-walled geotextile fabric, 100% recyclable, maintains the necessary balance between air, soil and water. Have a look at the presentation photos and tell us what do you think of this product in terms of appearance and functionality? We would also like to know what sort of flower pots you find most practical, so please leave a comment and help us keep you better informed in the future.
