| Original Architecture Project: Home in Australia Inspired by a Planetarium Posted: 07 May 2011 07:48 AM PDT
Here is an imposing architecture project that looks more like a museum than a private living space. Designed by architects Jackson Clements Burrows, the Henley Street residence has an uncommon appearance and is located in Barwon Heads, Australia. Here is more information from the architects: “A young family engaged JCB to design their new permanent residence which would replace a dilapidated 1950's two storey house that was beyond repair. A sculptural building form emerged from the clients brief which jokingly requested a planetarium as an inclusion. This led to the exploration of circular forms and resulted in a circular skylight in the first floor living areas as a direct reference however the house was primarily conceived to immerse itself over time as a natural extension of the Ti-tree dominated landscape. The house is wrapped in as skin of vertical cedar battens (providing privacy and solar protection) which appear to emerge from the front fence intentionally confusing the relationship between built form and landscape.” Freshome readers, we know you like original home designs, but how far would you go in order to make your home stand out from the crowd? | Privacy, Comfort and Space within a Contemporary Residence: AE House Posted: 07 May 2011 03:32 AM PDT
The AE House was designed by architects from twentyfourseven as a dialogue between indoors and outdoors. Occupying 817 square meters, the imposing architecture of the AE House utilises the urban restrictions to its advantage, creating a unique construction that stands out in the neighbourhood. Situated in Lomas de Chapultepec, in Mexico City, the residence has three levels that bring together social and private spaces. The AE House connects to its courtyard with the help of large glazed windows and the main social space opens up to reveal the views of green grass and clear skies. Two volumes are displayed in a crossed arrangement, creating a central void that allows both natural ventilation and light to caress the interiors. All the social spaces of the house are placed in such a way that moving through it gives the sensation of a complete and functional collection of spaces. The kitchen is close to both the formal and the everyday dining spaces. The beautifully landscaped garden, featuring Jacarandas and Palm trees, can also be enjoyed from the private quarters situated on the third floor. Oriented towards comfort, the architecture of the AE House brings together beautiful views, privacy and natural light, created by the intersection of spaces and volumes. Take a look at the multitude of pictures so that you can see exactly how the architects use every natural element of the site to experiment with contemporary lines and solutions.
